Who's up for a meeting at MOSI?
 

Those not sad enough to be racing at the Oople Invernational on the 31st of July - How about doing some promotion for Bury Metro and RC racing in general?

The Museum and Science and Industry are having a Transport week 30th July-7th August, and would like us to take part. They've already got Scalextric most days, but the people doing that can't do Sunday so they wanted an RC display instead.
If people are interested, I propose we hold a free meeting there, make up and hand out some flyers etc and get the club noticed.
Its a great chance to promote the sport, and have some fun doing so.

It would also be a good idea if one of the local shops got involved too - JE, Roundabout, RossMods - whoever wants to get on board. In fact, if we as Bury don't fancy doing this I'll hand it over to Dave and see if Roundabout don't want it and I'll help organise.

I'd be up for that too. It will take some organising to get all the track markings and jumps and carpet etc up there though. No point doing it if we can't produce a decent track

Sounds like a great idea but I'm in Sweden that week so would be able to come and race. :(

I think this would be awesome promotion to do and would be a good day out for the guys involved, get some decent flyers designed wouldn't cost to much, defo count me in Si, also if you need a hand with any part of this let me know.

Thanks to those that have responded so far. I know it the same weekend as the Oople meet, but loads of people aren't doing that so they really should be available.
Remember its about getting exposure (not that sort Shanks!) so what is needed is a good number of heats with people on the track. If we don't go we get nothing, if we go, hand out a few flyers and get even 1 new member it was worth it.
So suggesting we drop this idea because those who've said they'd come 'aren't the right image for the club' is stupid. If we don't do stuff like this we have no image. Besides our Oople image isn't exactly great but seems to work :p .

I suspect we'd be running outdoors in the main open bit, which IIRC is tarmac and cobbles, so wouldn't need carpet, just the track hose, loop and computer. One load for a van or estate.

So what your saying is we won't be able to have a club meeting at goshen that day because you will have the timing gear at mosi?

Calwnders can be changed. The club is closed when regionals are on a other tracks anyway.

There isn't a regional on si but if you want to do it. Tarmac and cobbles eh minke will last 2 mins :blush:

I remember when I was young and I saw a public display of rc cars - hotshots were the main puppies - I thought it was awesome!

I think it would be pretty cool to do this and as si says obviously good exposure for the club (if if it's not my favourite kind!)

Yeh I know I don't race anymore (work n a new real play car kinda stopped racing)

I fully agree with SI previous post, the day also needs to be well organised so as not to look like a bunch of schoolboys!

You'd need 3 groups at all times and alternate, you'd need a heat of drivers, the marshals as usual, visible jackets would be an idea, and a third team to be handing out flyers promoting the club it's website etc etc

Because obviously racing will attract the viewers to stop and this is the best chance to hand out the flyers and actually approach people rather than wait to be approached!

I reckon this would be a great day for bury metro if it's done right!

Exactly Phil. But we don't need 30+ people to do it, 5-6 cars in a heat is quite enough as long as there are people on the track and racing around. Ideally I'd go for a heat of 2wds, heat of 4wds and a heat of trucks if we can get people for each, to show the different aspects. Best of all is if we can get some commentary going on on the mic too as its often not clear who is winning etc.
Aim for as little a gap between rounds as possible to keep the meeting flowing for spectators and as many rounds as we can squeeze in the day. Might need a lot of battery and charging power!
Some nice flashy flyers and I'll 'borrow' some display boards as well.

I don't know why we don't do commentary on club days :D the cyclists do it! Suppose they have to as it's so boring to watch anyway lol

You would just need to sort printing costs?

Most printers would do 300-400 A5 flyers for about £40
You may not even need that many. But you could do a "Universal" one that could be used elsewhere?

I'll get back to you on that - Various people are getting on board with this project so we might have a bit of useful backing to help with that.

What's the crack with insurance does the club have public liability insurance?? Or is that covered by mosi ??
Will there be a barrier between the public and the racing??

MOSI can provide fencing, but its the metal crowd barrier stuff so you don't want to go hitting it!
I'll know more when I find out where they are suggesting we run.

I reckon they will have you running out the back of the train shed the platform sort of area so if you use the metal railing to keep the people away and something as an inner/track marking outer you should be ok

Why don't you run 5 mins every 15 mins to space it out during the day I suspect there will be a lot of breakages with running on Tarmac/cobbles so get plenty of spares sorted also you need to think about tyres mini spikes will be bald in no time

Surely buggys will go under the metal barriers isn't there a gap under it?

That's why I suggested an outer and a inner fence remember it's a exhibition not a nuts out race don't want to hurt anyone

I'd want to set the track to avoid breakages, cos it doesn't look good and means people can't run. The barrier is mostly to keep spectators off the track.

We might have a source for some RTR's to run 'have a go' sessions in between rounds which would space the racing out.

I've had an offer of support from NNRC, so we'll have to see of we can run nitros as well. Not sure we'll have the space, but if we can the more the merrier and it will really show off RC.

Best of all I'm doing this at work because the school think I'm talking to MOSI about taking kids there!

Don't worry about running the nitro's, think they will be to noisey for a museum :woot: or we could just do a small display?

But enough of us have 10th and we have timing equipment, would be good to hand some NNRC flyers out as well.
