RaceChat - New Owner - New Home !
This is something I have been thinking about for a long time now as a few of you might know but I suspect most will not.

RaceChat has been running now for more than ten years and I feel it is time for someone new to take over and move RaceChat forward. The site and the community deserves more time than I now have and too much has been put into it by too many people for it not to move forwards.

So ... Do you think YOU are the right person to take over the ownership and running of RaceChat ?

If you do then just consider these points first ....

Do you have the IT skills required to maintain the website ?
Do you have a suitable server, or could you rent one and transfer RaceChat to it ?
Do you have the time and the passion ?
Do you have some money burning a hole in your pocket ?

NB - RaceChat will not be able to stay on its current server and you WILL need to transfer it to a new host.

A message for everyone else ...
If you are you are worrying about the future of RaceChat then stop worrying right now. I will keep it all going until we can find someone else who is right to take it over and move it on.

If you have thought about this - seriously thought about it and you are still interested then drop me a PM ( Private Message ) telling me a bit about yourself and we can take it from there.

... Rob

mmm no thanks..im happy here :)

Do you have the IT skills required to maintain the website ? - yes (but then what skills do you need other than to install a forum script on a server & then ban people willy-nilly).

Do you have a suitable server, or could you rent one and transfer RaceChat to it ? - yes

Do you have the time and the passion ? - could be persuaded...

Do you have some money burning a hole in your pocket ? - what, you mean the site doesn't already make a fortune with the amount charged for membership? Quelle Surprise

Mark, with respect, it's not that what IMHO is the problem.. it's the "if you pay you can stay" attitude of the site & the fact unless you are placed among the top 10 in the nationals or turn up at the BRCA AGM to ask your question you are made to feel very unwelcome & not part of "the scene" when posting questions or replies on the forum.

As a mod on there you wouldn't probably see it that way, but that is the general opinion i hear, as well as the fact it's very clicky which a lot of people don't like.. a forum should be open to all & nobody should feel intimidated asking questions be they serious or obscure.

Well, hopefully someone will take it over, see where the mistakes have been made and it can return back to the earlier days, where you could post links etc, like most other forums., what made RaceChat suck, was trying to make money off members.

so it should be full of posts like stampy used to make and captainlip does now? both have been ripped to shreads on here!!
As a mod on there i apply the rules as they are, if i was a mod on here i would use this sites rules not rcracechats, that seems to me where most can not adapt/comply

With respect...

It is interesting that it is the people who aren't fitting in with something that call those that do a clique. It is also interesting that those that call the others a clique would feel better if everyone behaved as they did, or... join their clique!

The assumption that everyone who posts on here is made welcome is one that does not bear scrutiny. I've never understood the fascination this forum has with RaceChat, to the exclusion of comments about any other forum. But maybe that's because I am not in this clique... ;)

bigred5765 07-06-2011 08:22 PM

probably because at one time or another we have posted good usefull information on there and had are hands spanked for it me included,

kartdemon 07-06-2011 08:37 PM

Only just recently started using this site.

All I can say is... Opple rocks.

T&C's apply. NOT!

telboy 07-06-2011 08:40 PM

Why doesn't Jimmy take it on as oOple oOn road? :D

That would be ace, and attract more people to actually post.

Last time I went on there, there wasn't a great deal happening, with very little 'recent' posts. :/

This forum exists because racechat wasn't everything we needed - I'd have happily only ever used racechat but it changed and a lot of us moved over to doughtyuk.net.
I'd have happily stayed on doughty! but I needed to create a forum because doughty was a sponsor-focused forum for CD's sponsors and I'd just done a review of the Lazer ZX5 and had nowhere to start talking about this stuff with respect to CD's loose rules. Still - doughty was the place until it got hacked.

I'm a big fan of racechat and what rob's built. Whilst I might not have chosen to go the same route with some things, it still remains that rcracechat was a big help to me back in 2002/3 and I've some good memories of it. I'd love to run it and make it bigger and better than ever in its own right.....

So - the original core of members on here all come from rcracechat, and there is your answer as to the fascination. I'm fascinated!

in hindsight i think the lack of any true BRCA members forum for serious racers to ask questions about racing, rules or to openly discuss rule changes (not that it does any good when you do ask, all you get told is "you should of been at the AGM to discuss it" & your post gets deleted) or the fact there wasn't a centre stage for members to get answers or find out information from the people who were actually racing at club level rather than the governing body level was probably what lead to Racechats success. Other forums tend to rely more on the fun & social side of RC where racechat has more focus on keeping things serious for which the site has to be applauded, however sometimes people take it too serious.

However now with the new BRCA website being launched & a more interactive website from the BRCA coming along i do feel that Racechat's days are probably numbered as the BRCA site will become the hub instead, which is probably why Rob wants to sell it because he has taken it as far as he can.

All i can say is i wish Rob well in what he does next & hope he finds a buyer who has the insight to take the site forwards (perhaps the BRCA would be the best buyers for it), keep it serious but not turn it into a dictatorship or so the site becomes some sort of fascist regime.

Thanks Mark you just made my day with that

Mad Wolfie and Jimmy, thank you for the well-reasoned and detailed replies. That explains a lot, especially why so many people on here are so obsessed by one site!

And as for MarkC-for-RaceChat-owner, that gets my vote. Mind you, I'd probably get banned for spelling correctly and constructing a proper sentence!! :woot:

Woo hoo etc. The BRCA Micro Section might actually be allowed to post on RC then..yay etc.

I know the 12th circuit section use it alot though, its certainly full to the rafters with good info about 1/12th circuit.
