Brushless setup opinions

Im looking at getting a lrp sxx and a speed passion 6.5t for my 22 would this be a good combo and can anyone recommend a lipo to use I have the losi in rear config thanks

RogerM 29-05-2011 06:02 PM

Save yourself a good few pounds and go for the HobbyWing ExRun ESC at around £100 (or if you have to spend more money get the rebadged version at a higher price, circa £155, from Speed Passion).

Most people I know who have tried both find the HobbyWing/Speed Passion smoother and easier to set up.

As for motors that is down to personal preferences, I run Orion as they are super smooth and very fast too. I have used Speed Passion and they are good motors but a little less zippy than the Orions.

Juttie 29-05-2011 07:57 PM

I allready have a ezrun with a 5.5t but not sure if it will be brca legal?

Timee80 29-05-2011 08:13 PM

He's talking about the xerun sensored version, not the ezrun non sensored one. The xerun 120a is excellent and so easy to setup

Juttie 29-05-2011 08:17 PM

oh ok wheres the best place to get them

Timee80 29-05-2011 08:21 PM

Ebay is cheapest or click on link in rogerm's signature for uk supply

adon30 29-05-2011 10:20 PM

Follow rogers link to Rie. They are expected in in a couple of weeks. Which is just as fast as you would get them off eBay. They are uk supply so you have someone in this country to talk to if anything goes wrong.

Juttie 30-05-2011 10:35 AM

The lrp is at a good price though je spares £129 what motor would work well with this???

jaffacake 30-05-2011 10:42 AM

You were just advised from guys with experience to go for the Hobbywing, i would take the advice if i were you :)
I know of a few guys running Hobbywing 1/8th electric gear & they rate it very highly
Best i can see is £74.90 on ebay for the 120a with free p&p,pick up a good used 2nd hand brushless motor..job done

Juttie 30-05-2011 02:42 PM

Are they not a bit big to fit under the 22 shell when in rear motor config.

Timee80 30-05-2011 03:14 PM

I had mine in rear motor to start with using a 120a xerun, full size servo, spektrum sr3000 and 5000mah stick lipo. All went in no bother. Now in mid layout, that takes abit of imagination with positioning.

Juttie 30-05-2011 04:03 PM

thanks for the replys looks like it could be he hoobywing route are they brca legal and what motor, lipo do people recommend

leepez 30-05-2011 04:59 PM

I originally wanted a Speed Passion speedo and then was also tempted by the LRP SXX.
Since I then found out that the Hoobywing is exactly the same as a Speed Passion, I've just ordered one from Racers in Exile :-)

adon30 30-05-2011 05:07 PM

Looking, the hobbywing is about 10mm larger than the lrp. So you'll have to make a decision on that.
Also racer in exicile have a 10% preorder discount which makes the 1s £90 so you would save £40 on the lrp and have a decent bit of kit.

Juttie 30-05-2011 05:28 PM

Racers in Exile ?????

adon30 30-05-2011 05:59 PM

Just click on hobbywing on RogerM post and it will take you there

I tried the preorder one for the Blue but couldn't get it to work... so I opted for the Black one instead, which they have got instock :)

Juttie 30-05-2011 09:46 PM

Thinking about getting one in black is it worth getting the lcd program card also what 6.5t motor would people go for.

Juttie 31-05-2011 05:41 PM

Are the speed passion gt2.0 pro the same as the hobbywing xerun????

adon30 31-05-2011 08:18 PM

I believe they are very similar if not the same.

The advice I was given on motors is as follows. Speed passion are smoothest but not fastest. Orion are nearly as smooth with more top end. Lrp and Nosram are quite aggressive. I can not comment on the others but I'm sure people will have there own opinions and it depends what style of driving you like. (I have an Orion).

Speak to Stuart at RIE about the programmer. I'm not getting one with mine but can always buy one later if I want to tinker with settings and software further.

Juttie 31-05-2011 09:48 PM

I take it the black is the same as the blue one.

RogerM 31-05-2011 09:57 PM

Yes, all the same apart from the colour.

I prefer the 1S to the 120A v2.1 as it has a higher power RX supply (useful with todays greedy servos and to give solid voltage to PTs). The only thing they won't do is run more than 2s LiPo but for racing applications that doesn't matter a bit!

As for the size don't worry about it ... I run the HobbyWing ESC next to the servo on my FS2 and there is still room next to them for my Spektrum RX!!!

Juttie 31-05-2011 10:01 PM

Is it worth getting the lcd program card and what motor would you recommend im after 6.5t must be brca legal.

Col 31-05-2011 10:04 PM

1st. How can you ask a question without using a question mark?<<<<

2nd. Pick a motor from the advise you've already been given, then look on the BRCA website to see if it's BRCA legal.

Let us know once you've recieved your 'XERUN' I'm still waiting for mine and can't get any answer from the supplier.

The order was placed with China around the 24th May by the supplier. So I would guess he should be receiving them this next week (rough guess of 10 days from China).
If you have preordered it will be sent out as soon as he has received them.

That is my understanding of it as I am waiting on mine also and am hoping for it the end of this week. [fingers crossed]

I went for the Black one as he was showing 9 in stock at the time.

He had 10 showing in stock when I ordered mine. However it says on the info that these are 'pre-order' hence why you get the discount for buying early.
This was done so he could effictively start allocating stock before it arrived. I don't think it should be too long now. I'll possibly give him a ring in the week to check.

The Hoppster 07-06-2011 10:44 AM

I just tried to order the black one but the code does not work. Any ideas.

Thanks

It still doesn't explain the fact that the Guy is reluctant to answer any messages that have been left for him.
Lets hope you have better luck getting an answer to your question than I do.

Right, Just spoken with Stuart at RIE and he says that he has people screaming for these but they are on there way.

Secondly give him time to try and reset the website and then the order code should work again. This may be later tonight or tomorrow (sorry can't tell you when he is doing it).

Hope this helps everyone.

Order direct from China, or try giving the Guy a call and order it that way?

DavidAMS 07-06-2011 06:37 PM

re

mailed RIE last week and got no reply so i went and ordered one from rcmart in china. got it in 5 days, happy i did as i wanted the blue one.

The Hoppster 09-06-2011 12:41 PM

DavidAMS did you get stung with Import Duty? I was looking at the XERUN-120A-SD (V2.1) on rcmart.

What is the after sales service like with RIE if you have a problem?

RogerM 09-06-2011 02:59 PM

Racers in Exile are VERY responsive with after sales service, Stuart has recently made revised arrangements with HobbyWing which mean RIE will be able to deal with any issues faster than ever and you as a customer will be getting quality service.

RIE are very friendly and easy to deal with, when you ring you will get through to THE man, not passed around.

RogerM 09-06-2011 03:05 PM

Stuart (who the mails at RIE go to) has been out in China arranging some interesting new product lines, I am sure he would ask you all to accept his appologies for slow e-mail responses whilst he was away.

He's back in full swing now, I got a reply in 17mins today and he returned my call within the hour yesterday too.

Different story here I'm afraid....
Still not got an answer from over a week ago now. I'll try again tomorrow.

His website now says delivery for 25th June? is this for another batch? or for the same batch from which my order was placed over two weeks ago?

never get taxed from china rc shops, they mark it low value.
