B44 breakages

As it says whos broke what so far.

As some of you might have guessed so far the time has come and i had a boo boo!! wit mine. only broke a wishbone, hing pin, and snapped the top off the shock :P

has anyone have a shock snap before(just under the top screw on the cap) or is it something with the new design

showtime 03-01-2008 11:43 PM

i saw quite a few break at the MK GP a couple of weeks ago & they pretty much all did wishbones & shock caps!
they just broke the mounting lug off the plastic cap, you must have just been unlucky to break the shock body :(

IceMike 03-01-2008 11:52 PM

no thats wot i meant i did. so if this a flaw with the new caps or just a design flaw wit the car???

showtime 03-01-2008 11:59 PM

its more a flaw with the driving if you're hitting things hard enough to rip the caps off the shocks :p

i don't think there's anything fundamentally wrong with the design :)

racdeaf 04-01-2008 10:22 AM

i killed front diff as shred the gear ring last weekend
just bought a yokomo one way diff ;)

Northy 04-01-2008 10:57 AM

I've seen BJ4's snap the top off the front shock when the wishbones gone

Just think how much force is put into the shock cap when the wishbone goes, its probably the thing holding that corner on the most at that point. Things break ;)

There are some B44 spares in the for sale section :p

Yeah I've seen that once too, I wonder who was driving at the time...?

/Points at G :p

I've seen a few B44's break the rear topdeck where the camber link mounts, but other than that normal stuff you might break.

Northy 04-01-2008 11:27 AM

I think Jim was in control wasn't he?:rolleyes:

That rear top deck looks like it will be popular seeing how many have broke. Why does the rear top deck break:confused:

lil ben

AndyM 04-01-2008 02:31 PM

the ball stud hole is too close to the edge of the top deck, so it is very weak

i think thats why anyway :D

Associated have mentioned on RC Tech forums that they are looking to release a better version of the top deck which should be stronger.

I had a 501X prior to the B44 and that originally had problems with the rear alloy camber link support breaking and Tamiya then released a reinforced one.

Every new car has its bugs but I am sure that Associated will iron them out with updates.

for a b4 you can get a wide bumper im wondering if it would fit a b44 to protect from arm and shocks?

sly 20-01-2008 07:00 PM

Big bumpers are for people who bat the wrong way.

Parry 20-01-2008 07:03 PM

protects the back pocket tho!

c0sie 20-01-2008 07:15 PM

I broke another front shock shaft today :(

grindog 20-01-2008 08:00 PM

first run today. very happy with the handling. No breakages despite a few good attempts:rolleyes:

DaveG28 22-01-2008 12:23 PM

Where do people get spares from, both crews and decks/arms etc?

Dave

Northy 22-01-2008 12:29 PM

Thats cos your an animal Cris :p! See you tommorow at the EGM, is it at the place we normally race?

Mark

c0sie 22-01-2008 01:58 PM

Mark,
As you probably know at Hereford there are two big buildings...one is where we race...t'other is at the end of the complex by the other end of the astro pitch.
Go in their and ask at reception where the car club meeting is :)
There is also a bar on the first floor ;)

As far as breakages go....1 x shock cap, 5 x shock shafts, 1 x wishbone.
Flanders is using B4 Unobtanium's so im gonna get me a set of them bad boys :)

markwilliamson2001 22-01-2008 02:02 PM

Yes, I think they are slightly longer, so you will need to put a spacer(s) under the piston to get the same downtravel on the front suspension.

I thought they were 0.74 (B4), whereas the B44 was 0.80-ish?

Confusion reigns!

Sprocket 23-01-2008 02:31 AM

Here is how two use a b4 front shock shaft on the b44

You got it the b4 shaft is shorter but they work fine. Tighten the eyelet on all the way (so no threads are visible) then back it off approximately two full turns. Works fine.

DaveG28 31-01-2008 08:14 PM

Does the 1.02 go on the rear? Or is it a different size again?

IceMike 31-01-2008 10:17 PM

i broke it again!!! anyone found sumat stronger than the kit rear top deck?? cos i gotta get one now

Two top decks? Seriously though it might be worth doubling it up in places, i've seen how hard you hit stuff :woot:

DaveG28 31-01-2008 10:53 PM

Mike,

I think towerhobbies has one or two in stock, I just ordered 2 off them!

markwilliamson2001 01-02-2008 09:12 AM

Try putting a washer under the nut which holds the ball joint in place. This should help spread the load more, and reduce breakages on the rear top deck.

Chris Doughty 01-02-2008 09:32 AM

Definately put a large outer Diam washer on the nut side and the ball side of the inner camber links on the top deck if you are breaking them frequenty.

also it might be worth a dab of blue thread-loc - I think some of the breaks on the top deck have come from the ball working loose and 'snatching' out of the top-deck.

IceMike 01-02-2008 10:21 AM

it starts breakin when i had the ballstud in the outer hole and it started to bend it. bigger washers might work. but wont i need longer ballstuds, where can i get them from

Mike Hudson 01-02-2008 11:22 AM

You can get long ball studs from losi
