B44 to S4

Hi all

Can you use the b44 as a base for the S4 Kit:confused:.

matdodd 13-12-2007 11:40 PM

At the min no! but maybe soon ;)

autoxvw 14-12-2007 12:19 AM

I have a s4 and bought a b44 as well to do just this. The only thing I see needs to be done is with the slipper and the slipper mount. the rear slipper mount has a wider stance than the s4/bj4 does so it looks to me that new holes would need to be made. Im not sure if the slipper will fit as well. Could possibly rub on the 2 forward cells (as per johnathan @ atomic) I did change over the rear hubs and cva's, the front hubs, spindles and cva's and the diff outdrives.

barnyard 14-12-2007 05:45 PM

Wouldn't the rear of the chassis need moddding to fit the plastic rear bulkhead thingy?

also putting the rear plastic thing on would possibly have too much flex meaning a rear top-deck would be needed.

RogerM 14-12-2007 10:19 PM

My guess is Jonathon has been thinking about all this from the very first press release of the B44. He seems a very capable designer, sure he'll have it all covered.

c0sie 17-12-2007 03:03 PM

It would be great if Jonathon did convert a B44 to S4.
The S4 is THE SEX in my humble opinion lol :D

do you know somthing we don't LOL

Mike Hudson 18-12-2007 12:56 AM

will be interesting to see how it would perform compared to a bj4-s4 conversion

barnyard 18-12-2007 05:37 PM

i cant see how there would be much difference between the 2 essentially the geometry is identical with some of the parts now made from plastic rather than alloy.
There may be some reliability issues due to the material changes but we will know this from the breakages the b44 suffers in the hands of numpties rather than those who can drive.

i guess JC is already looking into using the b44 as a base as this would be a much more economically friendly way to become an S4 owner + i like the idea of being able to swop the rear arm holder when it wears out rather than needing a new chassis.

my only concern is the new slipper might have the same flaw as some diffs where if they are run backwards they undo themselves, this would mean new slipper shaft & nut with thread reversed, new center driveshafts at different lengths or if we're lucky there is space to add a 2nd adjustment nut to lock onto the main one.

Northy 18-12-2007 06:59 PM

I hope we see the S2 first....... ;)

barnyard 18-12-2007 07:10 PM

TBH i think that will be JC's first priority then he might think about a new 4wd conversion

tyreman 18-12-2007 07:15 PM

I saw it on Sunday, it was covered in Craigs drool

GRIFF55 18-12-2007 07:23 PM

Be fair Bri, it is a work of art!!

David Church 18-12-2007 07:27 PM

Yep the new S-2 looks very sweet!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to get mine:D

Northy 18-12-2007 07:51 PM

Me either..... it looks the dogs.... :D

matdodd 18-12-2007 09:18 PM

I cant wait to :D

Mike Hudson 18-12-2007 09:42 PM

they look awsome but how well do they drive?

Benh 20-12-2007 11:46 AM

I was at the Newbury meet. All I will say is that I wouldn't go adjusting the S4 to fit a B44 just yet.

Northy 20-12-2007 11:54 AM

Eh?

i think you might find its the other way round people are talking about ..
b44 in to an S4 as the BJ4 was made into an S4

there is not really such a thing as the S44.

its simply a set of option parts for the B44.

jimmy 05-02-2008 12:13 AM

politics! ;)

Nicely put Chris

Chris Doughty 05-02-2008 08:19 AM

the B44 that I will be running has a much more in common with a stock B44 than my S4 did to a BJ4.

the atomic-carbon parts add a different electrics layout and steering assembly, thats all, everything else can be setup like a stock B44, we do have extra mounting holes in the shock positions but we retain all the stock mounting points.

jimmy 05-02-2008 10:35 AM

Do you run the AE shocks on the B44-Atomic'd or Losi?

Mike Hudson 05-02-2008 10:40 AM

Would the chassis feel much different? I'm sticking to my B44 unless I have ago with one and feel much better wih one.

Chris Doughty 05-02-2008 10:49 AM

AE shocks

the chassis would feel very different to a stock B44, a lot more weight forwards. lots of power on steering, it has a high resposnse steering setup too.

if you like steering then you will like the chassis setup.

Chris how does it comapre to the S4 for steering ??

Chris Doughty 05-02-2008 11:34 AM

same geometry, you wont feel much difference from weight placement and steering geometry to the S4

Daniel T 05-02-2008 06:12 PM

Is there any pictures of the body yet?
And also the S2 body?

Chris Doughty 05-02-2008 07:25 PM

I have just seen pictures of my shell sprayed up by Dragon Paints.... its amazing!

Daniel T 05-02-2008 07:35 PM

Show us!

Some team drivers will be running the Losi shocks ;) There are provisions to run the shocks on the rear of the wishbones like on the S4 aswell, this is how JC ran his at Newbury.

Oh, and I've not even seen the Atomic B44 shell yet, tho I should be getting mine Sunday :D
