advice needed on ESC

I am rather new in RC. I run a B4 and also a TA05 in touring competition but I think Off-road gives me more pleasure. Also around here, the offroad-comps are always in a very friendly atmosphere, but my TA05 suffers from all the bashings it gest from faster guys passing my slower car and who don't feel the need to do this in a clean way.

That is why I was considering to mount my X10 Pred and compeed it in our local indoor onroad-comps, but then in the Off-road-category.

Now, I have almost everything i need, except for a ESC.
And since brushless is looking around the future-corner, i was thinking about ...
... buying a cheaper ESC and run it with the 13x2 motor that I have left. (I might also have an old 9x1 somewhere around)

... or buying a more expensive Brushless-brushed ESC which i can use for both.

I guess, if buying a brushless type, it is important that one can adjust it, that it has multiple settings?

What would you guys advice me? My preference goes for option 2, since with option 1 I will end up with a esc I can not use in future.
Price is important, but I am willing to do some effords, as investment for later on.

thanks in advance for all advice

hi id go for a nosram evo tc version as does both brushless and brushed

josh_smaxx 24-11-2007 01:58 PM

Theres only really 2 brushless ESC's to go for, the Novak GTB and the LRP Sphere (same as Nosram matrix evo), both are good in there own right, people seem to believe that the Novak is the more reliable one but i have only ever ran the Novak so i cant comment on that. Both of them are in actual fact really good, there seems to be an equal number of them about and they are both adjustable to what you want, the LRP more so. Its your choice really, the Novak is cheaper, the LRP seems to have more performance, up to you. :D

Brushed, brusless, sensorless

i agree i run both novak and a nosram/lrp reason i said nosram is its slightly smaller and it will fit in a x10 better than a novak and i no this as i use to run pred

ben 24-11-2007 02:16 PM

i would advise the novak brushless system purely because of the reliability. Also the novak motors seem to be a lot more reliable than the lrp/nosram motors. The novak brushless system is cheaper than the lrp/nosram.

Nosram all the way smaller than them huge! novaks and generally look alot nicer and are better speedo's.

How can i say ther better by opening my mouth and the words "they are better" come out ;):D:p

There small they dont have that stupid fan on top. They are more ajustable. And there nice and shiny metally outside case.

Im sorry Ash but you only ever like what you use, you loved the B4, got rid of it and started loving the XXX and suddenly the B4 isn't as good. Gotta love bias, especially when you don't have the experience of using most other makes....

What about the TC speedo:confused:

RogerM 24-11-2007 04:12 PM

When coming back to 1/10th off road I looked at all the possibilities and came to the conclusion the LRP / Nosram speedos are the most adjustable and the Novak motors the most reliable based on the opinions of people using both who have been in the game a long time and who's views I trust!!!

So that is what I run LRP (just bought a Nosram for the 2wd) and Novak motors (although I have one of Brian's LRP motors so I can make a personal comparison).

If I was doing it again I'd look at the orion / peak style brushless motors as from what I've heard they are quick and reliable.

Southwell 24-11-2007 04:18 PM

If i was to buy brand new i would go LRP/Nosram speedo and Peak motors combo.

RLGfx 24-11-2007 04:26 PM

having run all combos of the two, I now run Nosram ESC and Novak motor. IMHO this is the best of the readily available set-ups.

Seems to be a trend appearing here ....

I learned that LRP and Nosram are the same, only in different colors. SInce I'm not fimiliar with the subject. WHich LRP esc is the same as wich Nosram version then?

Our local dealer only sells Nosram ... but I prefer the blue color :)

josh_smaxx 25-11-2007 08:27 PM

The LRP Shere is the Nosram Matrix evo.

Yep exactly the same. I sold my Nosram to a mate and the case broke after a while, replaced it with am LRP case instead.

ashleyb4 25-11-2007 08:53 PM

No its not

The LRP sphere = Nosram matrix

LRP sphere compition = Nosram Matrix Evolution

LRP Sphere Compition tc version + Nosram Matrix Evolution TC version.

Hahaha
I run the LRP 2007 in the 2wd and TC in the 4WD. There were 2 reasons why i whent for these speedos and that is they felt a bit smoother than the Novaks(my old chap runs Novak's).And the 2nd was the life time warranty you get with these in the UK. The motors are said to be a bit of a let down but i have run a lrp x11 6.5 all season with out going near it untill last week when i changed the bearings, but that was my fault. At the end of the day people are going to recomend what they run(Ash springs to mind here)without testing anything else.

xx4-nutter 26-11-2007 12:07 AM

the tekin one looks interesting to me more because of the space i have to work with in my Predator X10, the novak one goes in just and so does the LRP/Nosram ones.. i have had the LRP sphere comp speedo and the nosram strom motor 4.5 it was fast but started to drop after 8 - 9 months of use, i did check the insides on the motor and it was fine, but one day at batley regional last time round it let out a little flame and was destroyed, i have to say ive only seen LRP ones break, but im put off by all the wires and caps with the novaks..

ill be looking at a Tekin system for both 2wd and 4wd cars for the Belgium GP no doubt with a novak motor for each car
