Uk Team going to the Euros 08

I have just been thinking about getting to Italy next year and I was thinking it would be a laugh on a coach. For starters your racing kit would be safer, more of a team spirit, more relaxed, cheaper, and you can drink. Yes it does take a little longer but I think I would defo do it this way. What do you all think?

ashleyb4 21-11-2007 06:49 PM

im liking i would love to go to the euro's next year but money is a big issue a coach would be perfect. good idea woody.

Myself and the good lady are thinking of going .... hopefully to race (if I can convince Paul W to put me on the list) but if not to watch.

Coach would be a great plan!

Going back to the subject! Any more have a thought?

Southwell 23-11-2007 12:43 PM

I think it's a brilliant idea, any idea on price?

terry.sc 23-11-2007 02:27 PM

For the bike Worlds in Italy in September the first thought was to hire a minibus for the trip, then discovered you can't hire a bus and drive it on the continent.
If you are going to hire a coach you'll have to hire the driver to go with it.

In the end one of the bike racers had a Transit van which was loaded with everyones equipment at the national meeting before the worlds and two of the lads drove down there with all the kit. Everyone else flew as without all the extra race equipment the flights cost them all of £1 each way, plus all the extra taxes.

Sounds a good idea, just think, vodka in hand all the way there, haha.
I may be interested as I was planning on driving.

I looked into this for the 2003 Euro's in Vienna.
Then it was approx £5,500 with two drivers.
That was for one pick up point in the UK and returning to the same place.
On top of that, we would have had to pay for the Hotel for the drivers. We didn't do it as there were only 9 racers going (about 20 - 25 people total) so it worked out cheaper to fly.

MattADH 23-11-2007 05:35 PM

Hey DC

Save me some space in the silver dream machine for racing gear!

I will be flying... :p

David Church 23-11-2007 07:09 PM

The bus sounds expensive, if I drive, which it looks like I will, I will be offering to take peoples stuff, for a small fee, hehe

MattADH 23-11-2007 10:29 PM

DC - I am sure we can come to an 'arrangement...'

_JP_ 27-12-2007 11:00 PM

anyone had anymore thoughts on this?

Just been looking at flights and found some for £161 each from Birmingham to Turin

Obviously we would need a car in Turin for getting to the track!

To drive from the Uk its about 1800miles round trip, car hire and fuel are about £650 oh plus 13hr drive!

strobe 28-12-2007 09:55 AM

Renault do a 7 seater Transit van. If you can fit 7 people in plus there kit. Share the driving, Fuel and travel costs would bring the cost down. Just a thought.

David Church 28-12-2007 10:01 AM

JP the thing that will make flying difficult is the weight limits! Unless you have someone else going thats not racing, or you get someone to take some stuff in their car. When I went to Japan I had 33kg and just made it, and the limit has been dropped to 23kg for all. Now you can get extra weight limit for sporting equipment, but I would recomend you confirm this before booking, as Lee M and Jimmy and Vikky got spanked for extra weight coming home from Japan. And do the airlines call our gear sporting equpiment? We know it is, but def confirm before booking:D

racingdwarf 28-12-2007 11:07 PM

If one person is going to drive all chip in and hire them a van , load all said gear into van, then when you fly only carry car and trasmitter.Cheep flights are great but you can have very little luggage before they sting you extra weight. We did this for the 1/8th euros in italy 2004 one chap had a van and drove over with all the fuel etc it was a god send. Oh yer make sure the van has a good alarm & 2x pit bulls on the pasenger seat:D

_JP_ 29-12-2007 12:34 PM

Yea I know what you mean, that would be my only concern the weight!
