Racing - Sunday 6th March 2011
Hopefully some better weather this weekend, even though we managed to get some decent qualis last weekend
|
I was tempted with EPR on the 6th, but TORCH is SO good I can't say no!
Loving the astro. |

I have finally got my new SP GT2.1 EX Pro speedo after a 5 week wait. Just need to plumb it all in (with the savox and V3 motor i just bought too). So the CAT will be needing an outing very shortly. The wife's birthday is this sunday so it won't be the 6th. (That is a reason). But the 13th is looking good. |
With all the chat going on here from the torch people it is looking like the club is becoming the place to be at the moment.
I am really looking forward to racing this Sunday with all whats going on in 4wd and Simon trying out some boots on his rango. I have missed the past few weeks due to it being half term and having my little one stay with me. My car is prepped and I am busting to get back on track. Anyone who has any questions ref the triple jumps which are coming very soon please come over and have a chat. |
Looking forward to it too, was heading to EPR but that's an expensive trip. So saving the pennies for Stotfold mid south regional round 1.
|
Should be good. Off to Wylie's tonight to get most of the 'Rango sorted. Now just waiting on a replacement servo saver post, balls and ball cups, and a smaller spoectrum Rx as there's not a lot of space in there.
Failing that it'll be 2wd with the Ansmann again. Whatever, here's hoping for some good weather. |
Get stuck re ball cups give me a shout as I have spares.
|
Clarkie's gone 4wd? WTF, with a Durango too, they're getting common now.
I'm hoping to be down this weekend:thumbsup:, for a bit* of banter, some 4wd action, and to pick up my brca gumf. Depends purely on the weather mind. See you there. *based on amount of piss taking, amount can go up as well as down, subject to terms and conditions. Your home is at risk if it gets bombed by religious fanatics, always read the label, if you can read. |
rango's common, cor blimey u can tell we are in the south :p
if you can make it old bean that will make three Tamiya's plus Steve's flying Tamiya :) |
Durangos are cheaper than Tamiya!
|
Durango 410R is good value and only a few extras needed.
Weather is suppose to be good, but chilly this weekend. Looking forward to a drier track! |

With the better weather on its way hopefully soon, dry set ups are next on the cards. If shuey blues are still giving grip roll is there a harder tyre people know of ? I would think the Fastrax turf rippers are like shuey yellows so too soft. its a shame shuchmacher do not make the red compound anymore:thumbdown: |

I haven't got grip roll issues with yellows... Summer Series may be control tyre due to the help of a large UK manufactuer - TBC so I'd work on the Schumacher tyre dry setups ;) |

Then I give myself a slap, and try to decide it's better off being spent on a nice titanium exhaust for my bike. |
B44

I thought Browner had a 511. Showtime, how come you dont come down and show us how to break B4 front ends? |
"He's got both!!! Take a look on Sunday and I'm sure you'll order one."
All said in the my best Italian accent, which to others sounds more like Welsh :woot: |

I've got one Durango and that's it... SX3 ordered though, so the durango will run at the stotfold regional and then be swapped. Still like my Schumacher cars. Done some tweaks to the durango, so who knows how it'll go this week. |
Decided to stay 2wd this weekend.
I have the 'Rango pretty much ready to go thanks to Mr Scott's soldering skills so I'll probably stick a couple of packs through it in practice. I want to iron any bugs out before racing it... already had a screw back out the slipper running it up and down the hall:blush: Roll on the sunshine! |

There was another chap with a madrat at Torch last meeting 'big-ell' so there could be a threesome at Torch on Sunday. Oh by the way, thanks for sorting me out with a shock tower and sensor cable. Regards James |
No worries mate, I've usually got spares of pretty much anything. My paranoia means if I can I have an entire spare car... Its why I'm touchy about the Durango at the moment. And before Mr Crabb jumps in, no I can't afford another one just at the moment:lol:
Met Elliot a few weeks ago through the Clanfield guys, he used to race there before I started by all accounts. Good to here he's got himself back up and running again. There's potential for at least one more 'Rat to join the party soon as one of the other Clanfield regulars has one now. |
Those with Durangos I'm selling my ultimate racing oils this weekend
15 12.5 10 7 All pretty much full bottles. Come and see me if interested on Sunday. |
Hi guys, i have been racing 5th scales for a year or so now. An MCD evo 3 comp, and an FG marder.
But racing 5th scale is getting very difficult in the context that i have been doing it in, we even had are track shut down up in angmering that me and 3 others setup. so I have decided to maybe start up racing 1:10 leccy buggies. Im thinking about the CAT SX2 4wd c/f pro kit. but i was hoping it would be ok to come along on sunday, and see what you guys are running ESC and motor wise. As im not that clued up on racing ESC's So would it be ok to come down and chat with you guys, see what your running etc. I dont want to pester you guys to much. |
Absolutely, come down and pester us, we'll tell you everthing you need to know.
We'll even try to sell you stuff. |
Yes please come down, meet the members etc. Things that will help is what level do you want to race at, club, regional etc. Also the dreaded budget.
I assume you are looking at a 2nd hand SX2? 4WD should be good this weekend :) |
Ide rather buy a new SX2
I love building kits. Wish my MCD came in a kit, that way i wouldnt have to fight with the dreaded MCD threadlock they use. Its either the CAT SX2 or maybe a predator X11. By some of the posts i asume most people are running Speed passion gear and 6.5 motors. Its gonna be a month or 2 till im all setup, obviously coming from a 5th scale background, I need alot of extra equipment. So yeah be great to see what every one is using so I get an idea of what to go for. i think racing at club level for now, im not sure how good i will be with a tiny car, its a bit easyer to race a larger slower car around than some of these mega fast buggys. this is what im used to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tv1-OGorQwc budget wise, if i can get a basic setup for less than 500 quid i would be happy. and then i can add to that over time. |
You are right re speed passion kit, reliable and good. I run a 7.5 as a) I'm not good enough and b) durango puts the power down v well. Ran a 6.5 in my sx2 which e's good
If you are getting new do NOT get the SX2 as the SX3 is due fairly soon. For me it's speed passion motors & ESCs. Savox 1258 servos and spektrum radio DX3R. |
You know the SX2 is about to be replaced by the SX3? Might be good to wait for that to come out?
Speed Passion is certainly popular, but not everyone uses them, you'll see a huge variety of stuff in use. Feel free to talk to me about getting you set up with stuff, happy to supply anything you need. |
sounds good to me, what sort of restrictions do you have on Lipos? do they have to be BRCA aproved, Or can I use my 2s Hard cased Turnigys for now?
any veiws on the predator at all, i couldnt see maney people using them on your videos etc, So I dont know if thats a good thing or not. Edit: As for radio gear I have a Futaba 3PMX that i absolutly adore, Honestly if it was down to the futaba or the girlfriend, the girlfriend would go. Only problem is the RX's are £80 each. |
The Predators are somewhat specialised, not that popular, and not that well supported. Though, a very capable, and interesting car.
Lipos and motos have to be on the BRCA lists, see the Electric Board on the BRCA site. |
Haven't seen a pred at torch yet. V expensive and bear in mind you'd be the only one with one, so break something etc people can't help. Get the right car for you but also think about track support.
Haven't heard of them |
Don't have to be brca for torch, but Wouk recommend you do.
|
Ok well ill see you all on sunday then.
I will stop spamming your thread now  |

For my recent fourth (and fifth!) cars I've chosen to get a cheap £80 Etronix 2.4Ghz just so I can add receivers at £20ish quid a pop! |
the etronix sets do look good, I have their 4 way balance charger.
But the futaba is handy as Its great for my rock crawler as well, with all the break mixing and four wheel steering features. And the ABS setting is a must on an MCD, as it will lock the breaks up at 40mph with a rhino attached. So comfy to use for a 40 miniute race as well. |
Hi guys just like to say thank you for all the information and that today, helped out alot, Cant wait to get racing now :D
|
Many thanks to those that came. Track may be a little different next weekend.
Sorry I didn't meet you, v busy morning with the meeting and getting the Durango working. What are you getting etc? Results are up on the torch site. |
All times are GMT. The time now is 01:07 PM. |
