really looking forward to this event! Haven't raced on polished wood with a buggy since 1995 - so it'll be basically a new challenge.
Fair play to Jim + Stephen + crew for getting this event organised.
See you on March 17th

dmcracing 21-02-2011 05:55 PM

Yes should be a good day,Can someone maybe stick up a map for people traveling from Dublin?

mole2k 21-02-2011 06:43 PM

http://www.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&sou...88&ie=UTF8&z=8

That's to the exact location of the hall, there will be a sign down by the main road on the day pointing up to the carpark at the hall.

mole2k 22-02-2011 01:01 PM

Just a quick reminder for folks to fill in the online entry form!

Legacy555 03-03-2011 09:59 AM

Well, 2 weeks to go - how many pre-entries have been received?
I'd say there will be 1 or 2 additional entries on the day from Dublin drivers.

Really looking forward to it, haven't raced on polished wood in about 12 years.

mole2k 03-03-2011 06:27 PM

The majority of club members still haven't bothered entering and so far the only one from the DIR club appears to be Ed.

Current Entry List:

4wd 1/10th Off-Road
William White
Derek McCloskey
Aaron Vance
Michael Bolger
Ed Acheson
Stephen Carson
Warren Cooper
Matthew Cathcart
Ryan Edwards
David Jenkins
Roger Skelly

2wd 1/10th Off-Road
William White
Derek McCloskey
Stephen Carson
Colin Morrison

Come on folks, get your entries in, ideally need to know numbers soon for arranging the food!

Modeltune 03-03-2011 11:55 PM

Can you enter on the day Stephen? Not sure if I can make it or not yet.

mole2k 04-03-2011 08:37 AM

Yeah you can Andy, Pre-Entry's basically more just to save time so I can get everything pre-entered on the computer and rough numbers for a bit of food!

Yeah, it can be difficult to get the ball rolling on things like this.
I urge you to perservere.

We exceeded our entries target for the Xmas GP - but it took a sh*t load of effort. It appears alot of people thought it wasn't going to be great - so didn't bother coming. But they have since mentioned to me that they heard it was a great success and will definitely be down next year.

The first year for a big event is always the hardest. See you on the 17th :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Are the schools open on St. Patrick's day? The bulk of the DIR regulars are now kids. It would boost the numbers in the 2wd class, and give a youthful air to proceedings.

I think the problem is there's been no active promotion of the GP in Craigavon - no poster or flyer, just word of mouth, which is no good for the kids, as they need something to take home to the parents (the ones that aren't at the racing, anyway).

I know Ed has asked around the regulars, so they at least know.

mole2k 04-03-2011 06:15 PM

With other things I haven't been able to get up to DIR this year at all so havnt been able to actively push the GP side of things. Nearly all the kids in CVMCC have confirmed entries with me on Thursday night past there.

Also a surprise entry from Jim 'I HATE JUMPS' Lee!

mole2k 04-03-2011 06:23 PM

Current Entry List:

4wd 1/10th Off-Road
1. William White
2. Derek McCloskey
3. Aaron Vance
4. Michael Bolger
5. Ed Acheson
6. Stephen Carson
7. Warren Cooper
8. Matthew Cathcart
9. Ryan Edwards
10. David Jenkins
11. Roger Skelly
12. Jim Lee
13. Regan Wilkinson

2wd 1/10th Off-Road
1. William White
2. Derek McCloskey
3. Stephen Carson
4. Colin Morrison

In 4wd I also have about 5-6 'probably' from the younger kids also who just need to confirm with parents etc.

I would hope get some more from DIR to help pad out the 2wd fleet as it is starting to look a bit sparse, haven't been as successful in getting some ex-buggy racing TC drivers down as I had hoped :(

There is still cars to loan available if anybody is wanting to race without a car, all my competitive cars are loaned out but there's a B4FT and a Yokomo MR4BX that I've been told can be leant to TC drivers etc.

Legacy555 08-03-2011 10:30 AM

Hi Stephen/Jim/CVMCC people

Can you answer a few questions for me, just so we can be ready for the 17th?

1. Is there mains power easily available in the hall? (will bring my own extension lead)

2. Do we need to bring a table? If not, roughly how big are the ones there?

3. Will there be duct tape available for taping down the AMB loop?

4. It's been previously mentioned that some carpet (50%??) was going to sourced for the day - is this still happening? Nobody will mind whether it is or isn't - just so we know what tyres to bring.

Really looking forward to this event - hopefully some fresh competition will encourage a few CVMCC members down to your track over the summer.

jimlee 08-03-2011 10:46 AM

1 Bring an extention lead but there should be no problem with mains power

2 We should have enough pit tables for our visitors so you don't have to overload your car on the way up.

3 Don't worry about the Duct tape as we have our own supply

4 Schumacher Yellow compound of spike, mini spike, with or without inserts and I suggest you glue the edges as the carpet has a tendancy to pull them off the rim. I'd suggest it will be more 75/25 polished floor too

We have plans to use the kitchen in the hall to feed the drivers as well, but this may depend on how well the qualifing goes.....lol

It's not long now to the event and I hope the visiting drivers enjoy their day out on the Tyrone/Fermanagh border.....

Thanks Jim,

Just to confirm - roughly 75% polished wood and 25% carpet?

jimlee 08-03-2011 11:05 AM

Carpet will be mainly used on the run up to and the landing areas for the jumps.....Scandanavian flicks will have to be practiced.......:p

I'll bring my 3 stick transmitter to get the left foot braking just right ;)

MiCk B. 08-03-2011 11:42 AM

A bit of carpet or a mat to put over the loop would be good as well.

Stops any chance of the cars pulling up the loop.

Think the track designer...Stephen..... has the loop already under a carpeted area. Think that this Thursday night may be used to finalise the track layout and pitting area and of course we would never concider some practice laps as some may see it as an unfair advantage......

mole2k 08-03-2011 12:05 PM

Tracks going to be 75% wood 25% carpet roughly (Blame my solicitor :p)

Table space there should be plenty a minimum of about 4ft wide I should think, power will be supplied, your own 4-gang extension might be handy to have but we should have adequate power to each table.

The loop currently doesn't have carpet but there could be a mat put over that area to stop the loop being lifted anyway.

Tyres wise most people in the club run a mixture of either yellow full spikes or yellow minispikes. Minipins work well once the tracks been cleaned by a couple of heats too.

Should be a good event, will there be any more Dublin drivers in attendance than the 3 already entered?

It's hard to say Stephen. There are a half dozen or so who all have good intentions of going but have family and/or work commitments - so won't know until the day before.

I'll check with everyone on Sunday, and maybe organise some carpooling.

Will

mole2k 08-03-2011 05:40 PM

Pre-entry is not a requisite but it would be nice to help take the guesswork out for food numbers :)

jimlee 11-03-2011 10:47 PM

Just a final reminder for those who intend to race on 17th to let the club know so we can get an idea of numbers and work out the timing of the Heats etc.
We plan to run a separate Novice Heat and final to cater for the younger and less experienced drivers who attend.
Hopefully we should have 3 minutes between Heats and we intend to start the computer and let it run on automatic.

tony6187 12-03-2011 10:16 PM

hope to make it up just not 100 % certain

mole2k 12-03-2011 10:34 PM

Hopefully you can make it, it should be a good event with a bit of luck!

Alas, it's in a church hall, so a beer race ending with jumping through a firey hoop is not on :(

MiCk B. 16-03-2011 08:38 PM

Just getting packed up for tomorrow.

There'll be a printer coming with the race timing equipment, will some one bring paper with them to print out heat listing and results on.

MiCk B. :-)

Young CVMCC member Aaron Vance held his nerve well today to take his B44 to both Wins in the "A" Finals. Visitors Derek McCloskey and William White battled for runners up spot with Derek getting the call due to his qualifying.
The "B" Final saw myself take 2 wins with Ed Acheson second and Warren Cooper 3rd.
Victory in the 2 Wheel drive class was William White ahead of Stephen Carson and Colin Morrison taking 3rd.
Photos to follow...
On behalf of the club I'd like to thank everyone for their support and I'll post the money raised for the newly opened Childrens Hospice in Killadise.

MiCk B. 17-03-2011 09:39 PM

Hey,

Thanks to everyone we met up there today. It was great to see everyone and the warm welcome and food were great.

I was fit for nothing after the day, so it was straight home after the racing.

It's good to see buggy racing alive and well everywhere.

I'm sure that there will be lots more inter-club meetings in the future.

MiCk B. :-)

Thanks for the days craic at Fivemiletown, it was interesting to see the place in daylight! Good to get a lot of track time too - no problem with running the two classes with the way heats amd finals were set up.

It was great being back at my old stomping ground, this time with cars that were actually properly screwed together and a modicum more skill than when I last raced there!

Credit goes to all who travelled a fair distance (complete with their AMB system - CVMCC members now covet radio-based timing tech!) to get there, notably Mick, Derek and William (whom I last saw supposedly following me to the Valley Hotel, instead following Ed towards the M1...), Ed, Pierce (who did very well to get his B4 round a 2wd unfriendly surface), and the organisers, Stephen (his brainchild), Henry, Jim and Fiona, and all the other CVMCC members who supported the event. Kudos to Aaron for being so darn talented and winning the 4wd title, and to Will, who would have put his CR2 on the podium if he'd run it in 4WD - astonishing!

One thing I note from the 2wd podium - definitely no shortage of hair there...
