New Indoor Venue - 1st meeting 20th Feb
We have now managed to get things sorted for indoor meetings at our new venue.
Address: Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre, Cleckheaton BD19 3AQ (2 minutes from J26 of M62) Meetings will run on Sunday afternoons and the hall is booked from 1 pm - 6 pm. First set of meeting dates as follows: 20 February 2011 27 February 2011 6 March 2011 20 March 2011 27 March 2011 Track building and clearing will need to be done within this time so the more people that arrive to help set up will enable us to get racing started earlier and give time for practice and more racing time. The number of qualifying rounds will depend on the time available but we would hope to get 4 rounds + finals. An example of a 5-heat club meeting could be: Track building and practice time + booking in 1 pm - 2pm Rd 1 - 2 pm Rd 2 - 2.40 pm Rd 3 - 3.20 pm Rd 4 - 4.00 pm Finals - 4.50 pm This would then leave approximately 30 minutes to clear track away and load equipment into cars at the end of each meeting. We will be asking for your assistance to do this. It is important to help at any club meeting that you attend - majority of clubs run on a voluntary basis for your benefit so to give a few minutes back to the club by helping with the track before and after racing is much appreciated at any club. The container which stores the track markings etc is situated at the side of the sports centre and is in a locked area. We have been told that we can use this locked area to park our cars - access to the hall that we are using would be through the fire exit doors and would avoid having to carry your racing gear too long a distance. You can, however, use the main car park. Race fees: Members - £5 Non-members - £7 Under 13s - £3 (if members of the club) Club Membership for 2011 is: Adults £7 Under 13s - £2 BRCA Membership: £13 (via Club) BRCA Membership: £15 (direct to BRCA) It is to your advantage to become a club member as it is £2 cheaper to race at each meeting. As the hall is not being used for netball sessions on Sunday and it is our first meeting we have been allowed an extra hour from 12 noon - 1 pm. We need this time to sort the new track markings, carpets, jumps and cut equipment to appropriate sizes etc. If anyone would like to help during this time then please come along. I must stress that drivers will not be allowed into the hall with equipment during this time - this is track preparation time only. If you do not intend to be involved with this then please do not arrive until 1pm. An advantage of this venue could be that if the weather is poor in the summer and the hall is available, we may be able to race indoors and not have to cancel meetings as it is only a few minutes from the outdoor track. We are looking forward to some good meetings and welcome all drivers to join us. Dianne |
Just add some further info:
The new sports hall is a similar size to what the club had previously at Batley Sports and Tennis centre. The flooring appears also to be similar polished floor surface to what was at BSTC. The club will lay a multi surface (floor/carpet mix) track with the usual jumps / features so we would also expect tyre choice to be similar. |
glad to see it back well done to all involved

Really Good news and well done Batley members.
|
It is indeed really great news - nice & regular racing :p
Just gutted that I won't be able to race this Sunday (Dad's 65th) ... but will deffo pop along for an hour to watch. Then quite fancy letting my little ones have a run, if there is a nice steady kids heat. Only another week to wait ! Well dones all round to those involved ... Dianne, John, Steve etc |
We are definitely trying to promote racing for youngsters at the club. We have a few under 13s now and if we can get regular attendance from them we intend to try to keep them together. If only a couple of them turn up then we would put them in the best possible heat for them.
I have had positive feedback from a few dads who want to bring their younger sons to race meetings so let's hope this happens. With an annual club membership fee of £2 and only £3 to race we hope this will encourage dads to bring sons with them. |
Great news on the new venue, shame its on same day as worksop, would have like to have been there on first race,
|
We decided not to consider the Worksop dates when organising a calendar as it would not have left many free dates. Our aim is to try to get back to running good club meetings where drivers can spend a few hours racing in the afternoon rather than the long Sundays that come with one-day meetings and still get the same amount of racing.
We are racing the week after on the 27th and would be happy to see you then. |

Worksop / Chadderton type races perhaps a bit overwhelming for a new racer. |
yeah i agree perfect for nu bes to come to local club meetings def more friendly and more of a relaxed afternoon out.i will be racing this sunday and i will be bringing the misses and our 5 1/2 month old baby boy the next generation of rc racer ;)
if the batley meetings are half as good as the chadderton ones then we onto a winner diane and the crew put on an excellent faultless days racing.big up diane what a star |
Looks impressive and much closer to me than Bury too. Think the time of races will suit those with family commitments too. Interesting comments re younger drivers too, how young can they start realistically?
I'll try and pop along and have a look, really want to start racing again soon, but time not my friend these days! Assume mains power available? Well done all, it looks cracking! |
Our youngest driver Jack started when he was 6 years old.
|
my daughter Hannah will make her debut before her 7th, and Jaber's son Isaac runs too, and he's 6yo, born within days of Hannah.
Thank the Lord for end point adjustment ! Quote:

Oh yes.... he was 3 when I gave him a go on the Lazer and I thought I had left the 27t in it, but was a 12x2. Still, front braces and wishbones are cheap....
He is 6 in a couple of months, so maybe not so far off for him as I thought... will try and pop along Sunday for a nosey, and well done all once again. |
I think club meetings should be held all year round, regardless of clashes with big meetings or not. Kids need the week in week out routine to stay interested.
|
Is there any mains power avilable or is it car batterys

That's what we try to do at York and I think it works. We're lucky enough to have a few top/upper level drivers at York, but they're the ones who race at the club the least because they (justifiably) need to compete elsewhere. It's the younger members and the ones who turn up week in week out that are the key members |

well done dianne and every one!;) |
I would like to thank everyone at Batly Buggy Club for a great day !
The new site is great and the view from the rostrum is just spot on ! I will be there next meeting for sure GREAT WORK ALL !! |
Great to hear such positive feedback.
We were not sure whether the balcony for a rostrum would work but it was worth trying as it reduces the time building a rostrum and taking it down but it seems that it worked very well - I even heard it described as 'awesome'. From a club viewpoint - we were also very pleased with how the first meeting went and appreciated the help that we got before and after the meeting with the track - it makes such a difference when everyone mucks in - that is what club racing is all about and helps keep clubs running as the work is not down to a handful of drivers who then get fed up of doing all the work - please keep it up! We had 40 drivers (including 5 under 13s with more to come at other meetings) and managed half an hour practice and 4 rounds and a final - as much racing as you would get at a full-day meeting. Some of our drivers were unable to attend the first meeting but will be there next week so hopefully the good attendance will contine. Thanks to all concerned in their efforts to support the club. |
I'm glad it went well, family matters overtook me as they invariably do, not to mention me not reading dispatch notes from hobby shops.... Tyres and inserts arrived, no wheels... body and decals arrived, no paint!!
Anyway, well done and maybe this weekend for a nosey round! |
batley buggy club
Yes the new place looked great going to be there next week for sure think the balcony work out very well just made puting track up and takeing it down that much faster too.
|
As usual Batley club put on a great days racing thanks to Dianne and all the Batley members for an enjoyable sunday afternoon and the balcony is a great rostrum unfortually not going to be able to make this weekend hopefully be at the one after though :)
|
A Great day's racing with a great atmosphere, just what the hobby and club needs to bring some new faces into the mix. Roll on the next meet!
|
hi well done to all that secured the new venue ,
the place is very good noticed a lot of people coming through to see what was going on hope this will attract more people to come along. can i ask what are the motor limits and battery limits batley runs ? |
A very good turn out on Sunday, plus it was awesome to see a heat of under 13's hammering round
The surface was a lot grippier than I was expecting too, though I may have to try different tyres on the SC10  Quote:
I had a 7.5 in my B4.1 which was more than enough, given the short straight we had I'm pretty sure I could have got round just as fast with a 10.5 ;) |

I must admit the whole meeting ran very well and really enjoyed myself, the layout of the mat's could of bin alittle better for marshalling as drivers view was blocked , but had a great day, just wish it was closer for me, I'll get there as often as I can as its a great venue.....
|
Popped along Sunday with my son for a look around, very impressed I have to say. Juniors heat was good, only thing better was the patience of the marshalls and support of the parents. Very friendly atmosphere, very relaxed (no-one botherd by my 6yo looking at cars, though i did have to stop him marshalling...) and hope I'll get the chance to race there very soon, well done. Oh and Di, if that was you on race control, very diplomatic way of dealing with kids running around the rostrum!!
Was amazed to see a junior marshalling and stamped on a B4 (by accident) and the driver said nothing, well nothing i could hear anyway and we were viewing from the rostrum. That is some measure of how the vibe of the club was. |
Is Batley on this Sunday indoor? I may come and race :)

As far as I know Wayne that is incorrect. The first post in this thread clearly states indoor racing is on this Sunday.

Oops, my apologies I read it when I was still half asleep and got the wrong end of the stick
|
