Toughest 1/10 4wd buggy?

I’m looking for a new 4wd 1/10 buggy for next season, I want something that’s durable so I spend more time racing and less time wrenching!!

AndyM 13-11-2007 06:43 AM

a BJ4 WE is almost indestructable, very very strong cars, nd great to drive,

hope this helps :D

Teddy truman 13-11-2007 08:07 AM

D4......... solid as a rock.

mark christopher 13-11-2007 08:16 AM

the best one is the one that dont crash!

got a d4 and its strong

trekkerkk 13-11-2007 08:23 AM

d4 has been strength tested by a mr ralls cartwheeling the entire(well nearly)straight off eden park, still went on to win,
as teddy has said solid as a rock,

trekkker

dan_kitty 13-11-2007 10:06 AM

cant talk for any others, but my d4 has proved to be strong, touch wood no breakages yet.

jimmy 13-11-2007 10:27 AM

I think the Tamiya 501X is one of the strongest cars out there - but it takes more time wrenching to keep it in top condition than something like the BJ4we or D4 etc because of their sealed drivetrains.
I raced the BJ4we for a year - apart from the front arms and a shock tower the car never needed any work

chrispattinson 13-11-2007 10:37 AM

Tamiya TRF501X - can't break the thing, and believe me I have tried, including it getting locked on full throttle down the straight into a wall.

Alfonzo 13-11-2007 01:26 PM

Pred X10. Plenty strong, unlike the early 1990's models.

Good they did improve. I raced A Pedator back in the 90'ies and the thing broke when looked upon. :eh?:

I can confirm that the TRF501X must be the strongest 4wd out there in terms of chassis and suspension. I never saw a suspension arm break. A few guys over here with BJ4's actually modified tamiya arms to fit on their BJ's because they are much beefier. I also agree that the closed drivetrains on the BJ or D4 require less maintenance.

My conclusion would be : if you want low maintenance : get a BJ4 or D4. If you want a car that will always get you to the finish line of a race, get the TRF501X

The car that kills diffs by dirt integration and breaks shock towers like nothing ive ever seen :D Bathy once broke 4 in a meeting :o and they wernt bad crashes!
The car that is 'the best out there' finished 8th in the nats in the hands of Neil Cragg, yeah great....;)

rcracer 13-11-2007 03:26 PM

I would echo the comments on the 501x really strong ,even though i have switched to a S4 now which i may add i am in the process of fitting 501x arms then my s4 will also be bomb proof :D

Yokomo's dont even go that well indoors away from dirt. One came into our club and lasted about 3-4 months. The guy got fed up with diffs that shredded themselves, he even snapped a few driveshafts with a 19t motor...

The strongest car i've see would be the BJ4 or the Tamiya 501x, The d4 i've seen explode into bits hitting a wall!

Lee 13-11-2007 04:38 PM

Vinnie needs to be mamba`d:D

Wraggy needs to beat the yok out of him:o

footey 13-11-2007 04:48 PM

i was running a 4.5 novak in my bj4we at york indoor and went flat out down the straight where i hit a wall and survived with all still intact got to be the biggest inpact ive seen and heard

ak33 13-11-2007 04:50 PM

Im thinking of buying the B44, will that hold up well?

Lee 13-11-2007 04:59 PM

It might hold up the other 9 cars in the race:o:D jk

RLGfx 13-11-2007 05:06 PM

one thing you can garuantee with the b44 is that there'll be a lot of people who will carry spares just in case, and a mine of information regarding setups etc...

Colinevan 13-11-2007 05:43 PM

My opinion the 501x.:D

Iv owned a few 4wd cars, inc a yokomo, lazer zx5, bosscat, procat,egress,avante,trf501x, lazer zxr, optima mid to name a few over the years.

The car that i have broken least is the 501, The only things broken include the front shcok tower and shock shafts either bent or snapped. Not bad considering 4.5 sintered power and a slightly throttle mad thumb.

Col.

Vinny, the Yokomo was the car to have 10 years ago. I remember when dogfighters were the best to have, very expensive compared to the likes of what i sued to run and genreally used to win all the meetings that i used to attend too.

No one runs the yokomo anymore as its expensive and spares etc are not easily available from uk stockists like they are for other 4wd cars. Just out of curiosity do you race yours?

I dont remember saying it was slow, I just said from what i've seen its not a tough car as thats what the thread was about.

Out of the 501x's in my my club (3) only one has ever bent a shock shaft, there hasnt been any other breakages.

RLGfx 13-11-2007 07:53 PM

can i just point out vinny, 5 days ago you were asking whatis the best 4wd around as you're starting back up... exactly how much running have you done with the Yok BX?:eh?::confused::D

xx4-nutter 13-11-2007 08:08 PM

theres no strongest car out there... down to the driver really. somthing with small towers and chunky arms must be a start ?

the 501x has that ?

vinny20 13-11-2007 08:52 PM

?????????

if u have one then u can find out 4 yuorself if u dont have one then theres no point 2 say much about about a top car and company:mad::mad::p:p

ashleyb4 13-11-2007 08:58 PM

have you driven the other cars to compare them to your yoke bx???

A

RLGfx 13-11-2007 09:01 PM

no, i haven't run one, i used to have yoks though, and the YZ10 was a great car at the time, but the MX4 (which I had, it was poo) and everything after (apparently) have just not been competitive in the UK.

I won't say they are bad quailty, I agree yokomo are superbly finished and look great... shame the BX just doesn't go too well (again, from what I've heard, not from personal experience) and isn't strong, which is after all what this thread is about!;)

so how much have you run it then?

vinny20 13-11-2007 09:17 PM

build

it also depends on how u build it i have no problem and its been 1 week so far the car had hard impacts on it no probs and the diff was not a prob

You don't have to take OFFROAD litterly....stay on the green stuff dude, and don't hit hard boardings.

The pred is a racecar, not a robotwars-thing ;)

xx4-nutter 13-11-2007 09:35 PM

this is one thing that really annoys me about forums..

somone asks a question somone replys then other people rant and have a go at somone else..

Cooper 13-11-2007 09:42 PM

going offtopic is my second hobby :p

trust me try somethig like a xx4 or a b44 and you will soon find your BX to be slow and weak. I have two friends who both run the BX and they seem to break lots. and the cars dont seem to be that quick at all.
