Which 1/10th Electric 4WD Buggy???

Hi Everyone

I'm new to the forum.

I'm after a new electric 4WD 1/10th Electric Buggy but can't decide which one to buy.

The choice so far is between several:-

J Concepts BJ4 World Edition
Kyosho Lazer ZX5
Losi XX4 WE
Losi XXX4 G+
Team Associated B44
Yokomo BCX Factory Competition.

I'm after a buggy thats got out and out speed, is robust and has parts which are readily available. I'm just getting back in to RC racing, so the car must be competitive, although at the moment its mainly for a bit of fun with a view to getting serious in the near future!

Any advice on which electric motor to go for, anything up to £70/£80 or so.

Any comments would be appreciated. I just don't know which one to go for!!!

Thanks

AdznKi

hi mate ive run lots of different cars and found the bj4 the most forgiving so either bj4 or b44 mate:D

Hi mate,

You'll never get a proper answer on this...all those cars you mentioned are winners in the right hands.

I suppose what really counts is whether you can get spares easily.

I run a XX4 converted into an X-Factory X-5 and I get most of my parts from the states as a result...but I tent to buy in bulk so I can afford to wait a while. Lovely over bumps and very very fast due to the low internal ratio.

With Lazers you will be breaking pivot clamps all the time - this is a known weakness - but you need these weak spots or otherwise something more critical breaks. You could get aluminium ones though. Otherwise the Lazer is a great car too. Parts are really cheap for Kyosho's...but availaility??? Dunno.

No doubt the B44 will be a winner when in circulation....and Associated are always well supported in the shops...but there will be millions of these everywhere and I'd prefer something a little less conventional. I mean, if you look at any club count how many B4's there are....it's just boring!

The one thing I would steer clear of is the XXX-4....not as good over the bumps as a XX4, fut technically faster due to the belt arrangement. If you want to go the Losi route, do what I did and convert a XX-4 into an X-5.

Anyway, anything you buy from your list will be good enough and competitive when tuned properly. That is the tricky part.

you missed out the most obvious choice the x factory x5 its ace

There is also the Hotbodies D4 parts are cheep and good availability the setup advise on the website is second to none and there are some very good drivers running them this year as well. (I dont include myself in that last statment:D)

There is also the Tamiya TRF501X.

Bulletproof construction, and very fast (European Champion Car).

Spares need to be ordered on ebay though, as not available at your LHS.

Thanks for you replies!

Has anyone any comments on the Yokomo MR-4BX?

footey 25-10-2007 03:19 PM

ive run most 4wd cars and ive found the bj4 car the best for me its strong and goes well im not a sponcered driver saying by this or that car so my advice would be a bj4we or a b44 as same car but possibly will be easyer to get parts as for the yokomo i think u have to do alot to get the best out of the car

B44's an improvement on the Bj4 i must say.

and at a really good price!

RogerM 25-10-2007 05:06 PM

Pidge, in what way is the B44 an improvment over the BJ4WE???

Curious.

if anything its a cheaper version of the bj4, only upside i see is not having to Feck around with ajusting a slipper clutch by removving the centre spur and what not

and the rear tower mounts made from plastic...

.. best thing id say to do is buy a ( bling ) worlds edition bj4 and buy the AE slipper system

Lee Martin 26-10-2007 08:51 AM

the rear kick up is a big improvement!

plastic steering reduces alot of slop. make it feel more reactive!

having a slipper that works is awesome! u will love it! big improvement!!!!

front hubs are alot better and feel more stable due to material.

rear hubs have big bearings for consistentcy and durability.

you can use same wing on B4 and B44 as holes in same place.!

Richard Lowe 26-10-2007 09:27 AM

Bah, cheap plastic copy :p

Haha :)

AndyM 26-10-2007 09:40 AM

haha...you sticking with the BJ4 rich??

Lee Martin 26-10-2007 09:51 AM

the BJ4 is awesome........but even awesome can be improved

PTRU 26-10-2007 09:54 AM

as mentioned all the cars are quick but the D4 hot bodys is the most robust

Lee Martin 26-10-2007 10:07 AM

hahahaha.........u wished!!!!

slipper/diff boy!

Richard Lowe 26-10-2007 10:30 AM

Haha :D
