Bury Metro Today
Good day had by all ???
I had a good day slowly but surely getting them times better. |
yeah it was a nice day, i really enjoyed it. my car is finally getting better for the track.
i had an absolute DISASTER in round 2 qualifiying, i was on for 14 laps and a sure A final place when i heard the buzzer go when i was coming to the banked corner and knew i could get the 14. i pushed hard around, the car then flipped and landed about an inch from the finish line, costing me the A final by a second or so  i had a great start the the B final, qualified 4th and got up to first within a few corners, then defended my place from stu evans for a long time, he then overtook me and i rolled the car, resulting in a broke ballstud.:jocolor: The track was very technical ive got to say, it took me a while to get used to it and finally cracked it in the final. roll on next time i say! :) |

Your car did look good Paul until then. It was a good day, and luckily the rain held off until shortly after we all left! |
i like the technical tracks i drive my B4 with lots steering rate, i suffer from grip roll alot but thats something ill have to ask people what they recomend to stop it. My quickest time today was 4 secs off a 13 laps.

on that note, any one know where i can get some losi TI ball studs? need about 4 for the rear :) and then another 4 to replace them after i break them also:jimmeh |
Had not a bad day made to many mistakes didnt help that Roger put me in a hight heat so running with the faster lads didnt help the make spencer drive better period, felt like I had to push to hard to keep up so made mistakes. The final was better had a cleanish run no mistakes a few wide lines but managed a thirteen lapper so very happy with that. :D :D
|
Aye good day today, never raced a foreign regional before and was a bit mad having a seperate final like but still a laugh.
I set the car up same as I had it at the North East regional (bury) but it didnt seem quite as good, very "tippy" it was. Got the photos done a couple of hours ago but I cant connect to my FTP for some reason, so, not sure when I can put them up  |

They do them in short, medium and long, so think about the length you need - no harm in going too long but too short just won't do. |
Yeah great day, & came 1st in the D!:D
Did'nt use the new tyres anyway! Thanks to all the guys that helped & gave me advice!;) Craig. |
What did yer car look like mate ?
|
Purple & pink brushless B4.

As prevoiusly mentioned by Paul the B final duel was shaping up to be a cracker.
Paul got a great start & nicked the inside line about half a lap in. It was nose to tail for about another three mins with Derek & Barry chasing us down. When Paul broke the ball-stud I was genuinly sorry as a good race is of more interest to me than the result. Return of the mighty Cock-Nose XX next week at Batley, got a lot of underseteer to get rid of. There is a random gallery up on northernracer, I was a bit tied up when all the finals action was happening so Jimmy's gallery is (as normal) the place for the real action shots. |
You managed to get an awesome picture of my BK2 Stu! :D Cheers!
|
Looks like you all had fun.
We were club racing at Teesdale. Hope to see you all at Batkey next weekend:flower: |
Aye, we'll be there Gem, Caravans & Girls in tow.

Spencer was the only one I didn't lap! bugger. |
woohoo... two pics of the trusty old tamiya :-D shame i couldnt get it to handle how i wanted... was that a 1ds you were using jim? which L series lens?
Right little advice needed. what conditions should i use ballistic pink minispikes for? I thought as they are the softest compund ballistic do that they'd be good in the (mostly) dry conditions we had today but the car felt awful everytime i had them on. The car felt better with the shu blues on.. Anyway, was a great ( if somwhat short) day at bury.. |
Use the ballistics in HORRIFICLY wet conditions.
the spikes on ballistics are too long, so they bend and wobble and make the car squirm about like its riding on jelly. I was using a 1dmk2 with a 70-200 2.8 IS L lens. I also had my Nikon in the car but dint bust it out - in fact there wasn't much time to do any photo madness today - rog really ran thru it ! |
right that explains it.. I was thinking the knobs were a bit soft, but i thought the compound make more of a difference... I'll save em for wet tires then and get some yellows back on the go...
I've got my eye on the 5d, have a 20d thorough work which is great but the crop factor really annoys me... Looking at the 35-350 also, ever tried that? |
The compound on a track like bury is probably the most important but there is so much grip that the softer tyres just fold over.
Save those pinks for when its REALLY really (really) wet, they will be good. The best tyres around there would be probably yellow mini spikes (schuey), they have the right balance of softness and spikeyness. Greens would wear too quickly and blues maybe too agressive on the grass and too loose on the concrete stuff. I think.. :) re cams: Yea to be honest, the crop factor for what I do is more a benefit than a drawback as I'm usually at the long end of things. I just got the 10.5mm fisheye for my d70 for super wide angles as there is no proper fisheye for the 1.3 crop. The 5D resolution might push the limits of the 35-350, but yes Ive used it and its about the best lens for RC action (outdoors) that there can be. The reach is good and the wide angle is really useful, the push-pull design makes it great to use.. best of all they are fairly (!) cheap since they have been superceeded by the 28-300 IS. What do you do to have a nice camera at work ? We make computer games and still the work camera is some pikey old effort.:p |
I'm a photographer lad :-P na main work is as a graphic designer but i do all of our photography that comes in. Portraits, products, absract, architecture.. i do it all..
I've only needed wide angles in the past as i've never used anything longer than a 50 for portraits. Did have a 105 macro but it didnt work on the 20d so sold it. this is the kind of stuff i do: http://www.designinit.org.uk/creativ...ail.asp?id=468 and company i work for: http://www.splinter.co.uk |
nice one, I dont get much chance to play with cameras outside the racing tbh and other than reference photos dont use photography in my work. My chum from work quit last year and is currently studying fashion photography down in london.
Another mate from work quit a couple of weeks ago to start his own magazine and does a lot of nice creative photography also. |

Just my second meeting in off road, and my first regional. Was happy with my performance, qualified 4th in the C final. Managed to avoid a small pile up at the first bend and led until about 4 minutes, then made a small mistake in the sand and dropped to second. On the last lap after 5 min buzzer had gone got tangled up with a a back marker and dropped to third.
Final was my quickest time of the day (probably would of qualified for B final with that time). I always seem to drive faster in finals in whatever class I've done, I think that in qualifying I'm trying to set a fast time and make more mistakes. Just need to treat each round as a final :) Stu got a pic of my car : http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/northernracer/bury/3.htm |
The series positions after two rounds are up on the results pages of both northernracer & Southport club site.
Thanks to Eric (as normal) for doing the points. |
Stu - Batley - Beer? Road sign???? :o
:D :D :D :D Do I need to ask in sign language?:jimmeh |
