Will it kill an ant?

Is it possible to kill an ant by dropping it from a great height?:confused:

Wraggy 18-10-2007 09:00 AM

Someone's bored !!!! :eh?:

Southwell 18-10-2007 09:04 AM

Dunno, but i wish to god that spider that crawled on the sofa last night was dead before it came in my house. Bloody thing was like a mini tarantula.

Doubt it, their terminal velocity would be too low I expect (besides that, some of them can fly).

RLGfx 18-10-2007 09:16 AM

depnds what you drop it into...

super__dan 18-10-2007 09:34 AM

I think it would in a vacuum ;)

RLGfx 18-10-2007 09:36 AM

dropped in to a vacuum cleaner? now that's just mean...

DCM 18-10-2007 09:57 AM

they could build a colony in the dust of the vacum bag, unless you got one of them compacting ones.....

I know they don't survive a brake cleaner induced nest inferno..... but they don't come out on fire....

Kash 18-10-2007 10:05 AM

Experiment needed

DCM 18-10-2007 10:11 AM

You'd have problems stopping it exploding first though.

Northy 18-10-2007 04:16 PM

I don't think any of you are taking this seriously

RLGfx 18-10-2007 04:22 PM

Does the ant have a parachute?

Kopite 18-10-2007 05:05 PM

No, but it has a jet pack, like in Robocop 3

antnee 18-10-2007 06:41 PM

well a six legged ant as in an insect, or a human 'ant' like me?

Yoda 18-10-2007 07:42 PM

By falling killed an an cannot be from any height

Believe me, an ant cannot be killed by falling, from any height.

The force of impact required to invalidate the life force of such a small and indestructible life form cannot be produced from any combination of the laws formulated by the main man, Mr Newton.

E = 1/2 M x V x V

F = M x A

E = M x C x C (Mr Einstein's)

telboy 18-10-2007 08:29 PM

NO.

There you go. well the ones that I brushed off my wheelie bin didn't die.....not until I walked on them that is.:D

c0sie 19-10-2007 12:00 AM

Do we know what the weight of the ant is?

RLGfx 19-10-2007 01:46 PM

what sort of ant are we discussing?

WHITTLER555 19-10-2007 01:49 PM

If you dropped Adam Ant from a great height, he would DIE!

Showing my age.........sorry.

Ahh..see..we all thought it was refering to the creature ant thing..never thought a person called ant.

That changes everything.

If you dropped Ant from Ant & Dec...would Dec follow?:eh?:

telboy 19-10-2007 06:15 PM

Jonny_H 23-10-2007 11:55 AM

I once heard that, due to scale effects, anything the size of a mouse or smaller cannot be killed by dropping it! Apparently a mouse would be stunned for a bit; as things get smaller, they get more indestructible (kind of like the way you can cartwheel a 1/10th buggy and drive away, whereas a 1:1 car would be a crumpled mess).

It was also said that, conversely, a cow or horse would splash if allowed to reach terminal velocity before impact...

The Losi MicroT is about the size of a mouse and that is virtually indestructible from what I've seen.

National heroes are Ant and Dec!!

Me - "In England, I speak like a Geordie..."
Child - "What's that? No entiendo Tia"
Me - "Well... you know Ant and Dec?"
Child - "Ah yes, they talk strangely!"

Says it all really.

Stu 23-10-2007 05:10 PM

If, while on the moon, you dropped Adam Ant, a feather and a lead fishing weight from a height of 12 feet 7 inches, what order would they hit the ground?

emzy 23-10-2007 10:57 PM

Depends what type of cheese its made out of, and whether its day or night (as this would effect the density of said cheese...)

ashleyb4 23-10-2007 11:00 PM

wow stu you have a polo oh you gotta get some pics up of that

It's a very special car, it has a 'one-off' front end on it that has been carefully crafted over a period of about 5 years.

WHITTLER555 24-10-2007 04:56 PM
