OOO I'll have to add it to the Christmas list. Are they changing the bearing size too?

reg 23-11-2010 08:07 PM

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm nice:thumbsup:

daz 23-11-2010 08:15 PM

I like the wording of the gearbox in the ad. Are they finally admitting that the standard gearbox is made wrong:confused:

atLihOp 23-11-2010 08:18 PM

interesting news

I know RC Racing isn't exactly a poor mans sport, but come on that's ridiculous.

Oh well, I'll stick with my current gearbox CASE.

I like support Schumacher, becuase it's British and so forth, but mm... However it's not needed, so it's just like anything, pay you money take your choice.

daz 23-11-2010 09:25 PM

£60 ha ha thats ace, standard one is crap so they make a decent one and charge a kings ramson to replace it. I think Shitemacher should replace them free of charge under warranty.:D

moth898 24-11-2010 12:41 PM

Having done some machining myself I don't think its that expensive. Its a exotic option that I am definately going to buy, and install my 30 pound RW gears in....wait I payed 30 pounds for some plastic gears, but wait they are the best available........Don't forget, you get what you pay for.

Darren Boyle 24-11-2010 12:55 PM

As much as I understand that racers will see this simply as a gearcase (which we are used to paying juts £8/10ish for in plastic) but at the high cost of £60, it is a very nicely machined large chunk of high quality alloy.....

Back in the day of the Cat 2000, it came with the plastic motor mount/rear housing which was quickly replaced by the solid alloy version which cost over £80 and almost "EVERYONES" Cat 2000 ended up fitted with one and that part (originally) came in just plain alloy and was not even anodised for that money (until they then did them in purple and they went up in price too), but people seemed to just accept it as an important tuning part back then......

I am not saying this is cheap, but it is a lot of "part" for the £60 they are asking....

Fabs 24-11-2010 01:05 PM

I think the complaint doesn't come from the fact that it costs 60 pound, but from the fact that the plastic one is useless, meaning this part becomes a very needed option.

On the Cat 2000 the plastic part worked fine, I never had a problem with it... But it was a nice option to have it in ally.

bigred5765 24-11-2010 03:00 PM

plastic one is fine, does its job

Cruise 24-11-2010 03:04 PM

There is even more to come:

U3844 Steel layshaft gear 21T one piece
U3845 Gear Acetal 19T CNC must be used with U3844
U3846 Steel gear pair 33T and 23T Cat/ Cougar

I agree I've been running the stock internals for 1 year without a glitch

Freakypen 24-11-2010 07:42 PM

I too have ran 10/12 meetings with my (2nd batch) sv and all the gearbox is totally std..never had any of the probs I hear others have had-apart from a little binding initially-which disappeared after a couple of runs.

I was told my diff would fall apart etc in no time blah blah-but I think if things are built correctly-there shouldnt be a problem.

I'm even using the stock turnbuckles!!!

I've probably put the scud on it now but so far so good:thumbsup:

mikeyscott 24-11-2010 07:46 PM

I haven't had a problem with my gears yet, just seems expensive.

Will be interested in the gears like they have done on the SX - shame I've sold my SX :(

I'm currently using the RW gear set with no issues.

I know a number of club members that have had issues with bearings etc. I've changed my gearbox bearings for rcbearings.co.uk ones and no probs.

Trish 24-11-2010 08:34 PM

Its quite easy to say something is expensive, What isn't Easy.. is the making of a product which involves many set up changes and is a complex piece.

Firstly the Retail is £59.98 for a Cougar SV rear gearbox Lets look at the CAT rear End.

U3329 LH Lower Gearbox housing £20.99
U3330 RH Lower Gearbox housing £20.99
U3555 upper transmission mounts £17.99

A Total of £59.97

Now wheres the complaints about that?

jim76 24-11-2010 09:01 PM

you also need to add the lower parts for the cougar.

i think the trouble is people are used to the prices for the top half of the Cat gearboxes as option parts, and hoped the cougar would be similar. But it is obviously far more complex than the cat top halves

hazeandfizz 24-11-2010 09:42 PM

New gearbox.

If the quality is right then the asking price is more than fair, this is not an easy item to machine. I have built gearboxes for a leading F1 team for the last 20 years and understand just how much machine time costs. I will be buying one if they look as good in the flesh as they do in the photos.

mikeyscott 24-11-2010 10:38 PM

On Christmas list with the Mrs :)

Ditto!

I use to run one!
£80 for just the bottom rear gearbox and then you needed tops and front bottom!
They were excellent and very well made and in purple alloy hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Stop moaning and get them bought

Spencer Mulcahy 25-11-2010 02:59 PM

Gaz some people just dont have the money to throw at toy cars with feeding kids and other bills to pay so they cant just get one bought, unless they dont feed a child for a month.:woot:

PRO-Buggy 25-11-2010 04:23 PM

RC racing isn't an cheap hobby, it's your own decision to buy or not. ;)

PRO-Buggy 26-11-2010 10:17 AM

Looks fine and fits superb.

It's worth all the money!!!!

mikeyscott 26-11-2010 10:24 AM

Pics please :)

reg 26-11-2010 11:13 AM

do you have to add weight to the front or dont you loose any steering

mikeyscott 26-11-2010 11:17 AM

Indeed, I expecting to loose the trishbits rear weight with this.

Cockerill 26-11-2010 11:40 AM

We're talking about adding ~10-15g, it's not going to make a massive difference to the balance of the car. The Trish weight is ~25g and sits entirely behind the rear axle line, that will make a difference. There is no way a 10g addition above and in front of the axle line is going to offset the rear weight!!

I personally don't see it as a necessary item (like most seem to be). However, I also don't seem to have problems with the standard plastic items, especially since the addition of the 4th screw to the case.

reg 26-11-2010 11:58 AM

what weight do people run as a rule, and were, also what will the difference be,does it just calm the car down

Cockerill 26-11-2010 12:39 PM

Personally, I use ~15-20g in the nose of the car (or Trish's under servo weight) to keep the nose down under acceleration.

christer 01-12-2010 02:05 PM

Can anyone measure the weight of the aluminum gearbox?
Would be interesting to know…
