Non Perm 1/10th Off Road Track?
Hi All,
Looking to get back into 1/10th off road but noticed a lack of track in the Surrey/Hampshire/Berks area. Most of the tracks appear to be 1 hours drive from me in Aldershot. Tell me, years ago Hants and Surrey had a club that didnt have a perm track, it moved from venue to venue and obviously changed every meeting. Subject to location is there still a need for this type or venue / club? I've been speaking to my sons teachers and subject to idea's, they are happy in principle to allow school grounds for use :woot: All replies greatfully welcomed :D |
The more clubs in the south the better!!!
Currently the only 2 clubs we have in the south east is the world famous EPR and FORCC! We do need more clubs down here for us racers!!!! |
TORCH is probably less than an hour away and is just having new astroturf layed.
There is a section on Oople for TORCH, it's not in Titchfield anymore, nearest village is probably Botley. Come on down when your ready and introduce yourself we're a friendly bunch :) |
Had a meeting today with the head of the school about the requirements and access etc. Looking quite promising at present, might even get a perm section :D... just need someone to run it if it happens.....
|
Hey Neil,
where abouts are you? - could be reasonably close for me too... Good luck |
Good Dr.
Going to keep the exact location shhhhh for a bit but its in Farnham, so 40 mins from you :woot:. Be good to gauge some numbers to see that I'm not flogging a dead horse! |
Yeah, Farnham sounds good... I'm guessing you're thinking outdoor?
Good luck and keep letting us all know how ya' get on... (and maybe see you at Taplow?) |
Yes, Friday night, bringing Adam my eldest with me :D
|
Tony Evdoka has been searching in vain for a location around this area for ages!
|
Uncle tony wanted indoors though.....
|
yeah but i bet he'd still want to be involved in an outdoor track especially this close to home ;)
i'll be keeping an eye on this as i'm just down the road in Farnborough :) |
Mr Dudman i remember you from when i first started, if i remember right you were racing a Lazer ZXR - With a Dark blue, red & white paint job with the white 5 spoke wheels :D
I can picture it quite clearly actually! Don't suppose you've got any old pics from those Surrey & Hants days?? That was where i started racing properly! |
Blimey Nick!. I expect you've reached puberty by now then :D:D:D Hows your Dad?..... Glad to see you still racing after I took you under my wing :lol::lol::lol:
Yup, that's me, that was an awesome car - only mistake I made was going down the Parma Sponsored Route and the batteries and Motors were poo. I did really well with my own stuff.... Hey ho. From memory your in Addlestone? - so not to far away either!. |

Dad's still good thanks, plays Golf rather a lot these days but i'm not really racing any more (I'm from Newbury by theway) - Racing was all very serious for us from around 95 - 2002 but i packed up then and got into Cars, Girls, drinking etc... I came back to have a bit of a play in 2007 when Lee Martin had his track built at home as it was near me and we were good mates... I did the F2's and then that was it really, i just literally had a play every now and again but we have a baby now so no racing for me for a little while yet although i do keep thinking about having a go with a 1/8th car if i can sort out one to borrow.... How's things with you?? I remember the old S&H days with Danny Vella, the Hatton twins, Lee Mullen, Tony Evdoka obviously plus mr Brunsden who is still racing and doing well - There must be loads of other names..... |
Jesus, your making me feel old!. I look back and think it really was 'good time' with a big smile on my face. They might be rose tinted glasses but that'll do for me.
I hope the scene is still as friendly and full of Banter as it was then. I lost touch with Danny and most other people, like you I met my wife and it all went down hill from then on :cry::cry::cry: Couple of Sproggs now (4 and 10) so its just the right time to get the eldest into it and I might as well have a go myself!. If I can get a track sorted locally it would be good. Things are going well at oresent so fingers crossed. Amazing how things come full circle :). I'm going to Taplow on Friday (Tony said I can have a go in his works Kyosho :D:D - ok he didnt but I can hope!!! ;)). I'm still gonna be a stick man though, tried the wheel thing and its just a bit too odd for me - and I am odd!. I remember going round to the chap from Demon in Ash a few times - is he still around?. Was a bit weird for a 12 year old to go there - felt like an Alter boy at a priests convention!! |

Those were definitely good times though, i remember the tracks well including the old Grass ones, to that weird one we raced at when it was wet - it was like a tennis court i think and Kevin Brunsden was going well with his Top Force Evo - Remember that? Things have certainly moved on but with Brushless & Lipo power it's sooo much better now, especially for people starting out. When was it you actually packed up? I think it must have been 93/94 looking back as i don't really remember you racing at Tony's Hampshire Racing centre in Basingstoke?? |
Interested to see how this develops, also don't forget TORCH is down the road...
|
I think it was about 94/95 as that's when we brought our house.
I raced loads at Basingstoke when othe rpeople ran it, then it shut down I think after I stopped. I remember going to a meeting there when Tony was in charge but I dont think I raced there. Was a bloody good place with hot chips too!. I dont remember the tennis court one, I just remember Tony pulling that long rostrum around all over Ash Vale!. I'll have to pop up to Newbury then and say Hi to Danny. When is it on?. Dont remember this Brunsden chap though.... I remember Manny Panasaar racing in his Yoko a few times, Traxxas bringing out there first car.... good times. |
OT Nick, what's 'detail my car'?
|
For me those days remind me of racing at Southampton, TORCH with Ron Winter running it (RIP) and the odd away trip to Basingstoke etc.
Gerald Page Stephen Brown Dan Brown Phil Moggy Jason Moggy Chris Wilkinson Chris Granger I'm sure there are others, but I can't remember. What I do remember is Tony E coming down for the outdoor event at Millbrook school in Southampton. I stopped racing 1995/1996 due to working at Tesco at the weekend, with double time on Sunday racing stopped. We also lost Solent models, but I was fortunate to be back and forth to Hong Kong |
back on track...after nick has hijacked this thread! ;) i would b interested in coming down and racing...living in newbury also.
May even lend you a car nick ;) id happily help with track advise also if required... Lee |
Ron from RW Equipment? I remember him.
I remember the Apex Model guys, I think brothers? Good to see this is gaining some momentum. As its in a school my thinking would be to have a at least one class that is bog standard 'selected' brand/version to keep costs low for youngster and new people. Neil |

Give me a shout - Hope Liz is ok??? Sorry for hijacking it, maybe i should have sent Neil a PM but it's funny hearing from someone from 15 years ago :D |
Back? no mate! sat here in Bangkok Pattaya Hospital! i will turn my gmail on now and we can have a chat!
|
Farnham would be great for me too (around 20mins).
Neil - I don't remember you but reading this thread has brought back many very good memorys. I know the Hatton brothers are looking to race again, Steve Brown is the chairman at Torch I think. I remember the tennis court track!!! I also remember getting stuck at one of the grass tracks and Marting had to pull me out with his 4x4 and the other venue was very secluded in Ash, if I remeber rightly you had to walk up a bank and through bushes. The Tamsitt brothers (Neil owned Apex) are no longer racing or involved in model cars in any way as far as I know. Be great to have even more SE action, as a region it is really picking up again. |

Indeed hopefully a great 2011 for the South?? |

Key thing I remember about Ron was his truck racing. I also remember the Mcrae brothers in Fareham as I used to get my brushed motors from them. |

The secluded part was here off Ash Hill:
We also raced at Carrington Recreation ground in Ash Vale and a little further down Ash Hill in a big park by the Standard of England Pub Post code GU12 5DP |
