Moto Arena First Off Road Club Night

According to Moto Arena's advert in the December '10 issue in Radio Race Car, Moto Arena are running 1/10th off road buggy nights starting from Tuesday November 9th.

The place is massive, i'm really looking forward to going.

Does anyone know what time it starts?

What are the best tyres to use?

What surface will they be using?

Thanks,
Tel

It will be Tarmac mostly with carpet over the jumps and generous landing strips ;)
I've run my zx5 on the flat stuff with bald ballistics and White compound minipins with good results, just got to get the bumps and jumps made

budgio 01-11-2010 10:48 PM

Tuesdays are good for me.Looking forward to it.

RogerM 02-11-2010 08:31 AM

I might pop along on occassion too.

Matt, this needs to be advertised properly on here, it's ok putting it in Radio Race car but to be fair it's not the best read magazine in the world.

This is the best place to promote any off road event and no one would have known it was on unless the fella opened this thread.

We were up there with you last Wednesday and you never mentioned it!!!! .......... i've just been to Ardent with nearly 130 off roaders, I could have put out a couple of hundred flyers promoting it if you'd said.

So can we have some idea of the format?, how many rounds of qualifying, round by round, TQ, 2wd and 4wd separate or mixed, do we book in advance or on the day, how much is it, what time does it start??????

Alec

khristina 02-11-2010 10:06 AM

i am wondering about the rc car, i like mini austin and anywhere can have mini austin racing only ?

mk2kompressor 02-11-2010 12:53 PM

It will be dude, I'll call you for input on the jumps( making them this week)

JCJC 02-11-2010 01:00 PM

Bet just having regular meeting would be the best start, jumps can be added as the weeks go by, will need modifying as you go along anyway, bumps/ripples and kickers are easy and quick to do, tabletops, banked corners, crossovers and wall of death's take a little while. Be nice to see this up and running. May have to get a mini austin myself (sorry).

F1END 02-11-2010 01:02 PM

Good news, except I can't do Tuesdays

Will the off-road track be set up at any point for practice? If so, when?

lotussmart 02-11-2010 03:57 PM

Matt, try and avoid running the buggies over areas of the track where touring cars need grip, just rebuilt our track from the weekend and it's amazing how the buggies strip additive off the track, the small patches that were not covered look like new carpet now the grip has been taken away and I am sure this will be the same for asphalt, luckily they are off the racing line so doesn't matter, but we didn't realise the affect they would have. Great crowd though and great eaters. Cafe sold out! :-)

RogerM 02-11-2010 04:13 PM

Is that polite for greedy bunch?? ;)

MotoArena take note; jacket spuds FTW

davidmog99 02-11-2010 06:55 PM

Own section?

I have visited Moto Arena and the facilities are fantasic. Better than anything i could have imagined for an r/c track.
It does however confuse me why they organise events, but dont communicate with the relevant people who could bring hundreds of racers along?????????

mk2kompressor 02-11-2010 07:01 PM

im picking up the pieces from the last 2 months of "events" so please bear with me;)

Jackets can be done no problem:drool:

thanks for the heads up John, ill let you know how we fair, need to call you soon too

F1END 03-11-2010 10:21 AM

No disrespect, but something really needs to be done about communication from Moto Arena. Are you in charge of media/press mk2kompressor? Or do you even have a press person at moto-arena? IMO, you need one.

For a start, there is still no official news about this, either on here or the moto-arena website. How do you expect people to turn up if you don't tell them about it? I'm sure if you asked Jimmy he would probably put a news item on the home page?!?

Also, so far in this thread 10 questions have been asked, none of which have even been acknowledged, let alone answered. If you don't know the answers yet, why not say something about when you will know answers by, so we at least know our questions are being thought about.

Lastly, people you are already speaking to know A LOT of people in this hobby. Word of mouth is the best form of promotion. Missed opportunity.

What happened to the idea of getting Silverstone Radio Controlled Model Car Club to organise the off-road nights? They have experience organising this kind of thing, and will bring more people in.

As I said, I don't mean to insult anyone, it's just frustrating seeing opportunities wasted as this venue could be great for the hobby in this area.

Answers to the jumps are coming, im playing with different options at the moment.
Im not sure about the austin's coming here to race though:lol:
I had to put the offroad club dates in the mag due to deadlines, the website will be updated asap with all the current stuff we are working on but my main job at the moment is finish the track:woot:

We have been in talks with Silverstone club but so far nothing has been set in stone.

Really caught out the catering crew, full english and jacket spuds were the best sellers :-) Also more bog roll than normal, think the two are related ;-).

Matt you are doing a grand job, I know it isn't easy. Can we bring our buggies to a buggy club night? About time we came and had a play :-) Maybe arrange an Arena/Raceway challenge for 2011?

mk2kompressor 03-11-2010 09:27 PM

Come up when you like mate, an inter club championship sounds awesome:drool:

lotussmart 03-11-2010 09:40 PM

Cool!! :-) Chat when I come down. Sorry, first Buggy night is when?

mk2kompressor 03-11-2010 09:48 PM

Tuesday pm :)

Anyone?

mk2kompressor 04-11-2010 07:45 PM

book in on the day, pt's are welcome (id rather it be that way)
not sure on exact format until we see how many show up for it,hopefully 2wd, 4wd with 4 qualifiers and 4 finals

4 finals, wow! (that's sarcasm to anyone who doesn't race RC cars, coz if you did you'd know what I mean with 4 finals!)

Facts Facts Facts, get them right and people understand, get them wrong and you'll look a right twat!

mk2kompressor 05-11-2010 11:12 AM

im expecting quite a few NEW drivers, A,B,C and possibly D finals might be on the cards.

is that a problem?
do i still look like a twat:cry:

MattW 05-11-2010 12:04 PM

Matt, I think what they're asking is how many races (rounds) are people going to get.

RogerM 05-11-2010 12:07 PM

Not at all, Mark.

What I think you should have put is "4 qualifying rounds and a single leg final for all. Expect enough drivers to fill approximately 4 finals".

I think that is clear ... I knew what you meant ... well I think I did :)

Unfortunately, yes, because you are coming on to a racers forum and using racing terms incorrectly.

4 heats and four finals would be interpreted as four rounds of qualifying and a four-legged final. 8 races per driver in the day. Which is an odd format and, frankly, too many races.

This kind of promotion may work for the non-racing users, but for the racing community it just makes it look amateurish. You really need to get someone on board with a wide experience of racing before you start trying to run race events.

I think I have to step in here and say that I think your being completly out of order.

How would you treat a newbie who does not know "racing terms"? Most racers know what Matt means, what I think he was doing is explaining the format as asked. 4 heats, 4 finals.

Matt has gone into the Moto-arena and organised this event having only been there a short period of time. It's not going to perfect from day one, but he is speaking to racers with years of experiance to try and get it right.

A few friends and myself discussed the option of running off road events at the moto arena with him and he is trying to acommodate us. When was the last time you raced on a tarmac track, with jumps, indoors?

This could end up being a really good venue for a mid week race meeting on a tuesday night. They may then hold the odd occassional sunday meeting.

Maybe instead of attacking Matt, you should be encouraging/helping him to get this right, unless of course you have another place to race on a Tuesday night?

dale 05-11-2010 01:40 PM

Okay, for those that don't know me...

I'm Dale Burr.
  • I've been racing since 1994; 2wd and 4wd off-road, 2wd and 4wd on-road (back in the days when we put foam tyres on buggies and ran them on-road), Touring Cars, F1, 1/10th IC, 12th, Mardave, 1/14th... most things!
  • I ran the Bedworth club for 7 years (running indoor, off-road and on-road events, including RRCi, BRCA, MCCA etc).
  • I created the RC-Timing program used at a large number of tracks in the UK and abroad. Moto Arena are one of my customers which is how I fit in here...
Okay, so credentials established, I will be helping MA run the first indoor off-road event on Tuesday. I'll be asisting with stuff like booking in, running the computer and making sure things go smoothly.

Some info for how Tuesday will go:
  • The track will be available for practice from 6pm untill racing starts.
  • Booking in will be from 6pm till 6.45pm. No pre-book, just turn up.
  • Racing will start at 7pm and finish by 9.45pm.
  • There will be 3 or 4 rounds of RBR qualifying (depending on numbers and how things go) and 1 round of finals. RBR will be used as this will allow the track and jumps to be tweaked between rounds if needed.
  • Classes will be 2wd and 4wd 1/10 electric off-road. 2wd and 4wd will run separately, numbers permitting.
  • If you want your laps counted you will need to have a PT. MA have an AMBrc system but don't currently have any handout transponders. If you don't have a PT you can still come along and race, but without any timing info.
  • Race fee is £10. Please pay at race control rather than the front desk to keep things simple.

Smartalec 07-11-2010 06:58 PM

So boys and girls do we have a show of hands as to who may be going along on Tuesday?

Adam F 07-11-2010 07:23 PM

Me, Ben and hopefully Gareth and Phil our new recruit.

Also, have to comment on calling people names on forums, would you say it to his face if you met him in the street? If not dont say it on a forum.

Adam F 07-11-2010 07:58 PM

Also, will MA be getting their own section on here?

Would make it much easier to find out info etc, I almost missed out on this Tuesdays action...

He's booked for Wednesday night so everyone can aim for him with there cars :p

RogerM 08-11-2010 08:55 AM

Might have missed it but what time do doors open?

I am driving cross country tomorrow and could select the A421 as my route based on traffic conditions etc to justify having a company car in the area ;)

If it works out time wise I'll be along.

mk2kompressor 08-11-2010 09:41 AM

ramps should be set out by 5pm booking in starts at 6pm-6.45pm:)

i can lay some more 1/8 stuff around the track, no camera man needed, will those be good enough for obstacles:p
