seems not, I've been looking into getting a new (dedicated) host, but the cost is high and it will be hard to justify. If anyone sees any mischief on the front page, make sure to give me a shout as I don't always check it.. I checked it last night because I'd just rehashed the front page a little (now gone haha)

The traffic last month was over 220gig, even though the site was almost totally down for a few days - I can't see me being able to get a cheap host that actually alllows that much bandwidth and is secure. :(

Chequered Flag Racing 02-10-2007 05:48 PM

I use this tool when I'm tracking pages I'm watching for a change

change detection

jimmy 03-10-2007 09:28 AM

The site 'lost' all the databases last night - ace. I've got things working again, and even fixed the front page which was just hacked again  - BUT I'm still thinking about what to do.

oople don't suck man....

I would be more than willing to pay a subscription fee to use this site dude!! and that can be used to pay for a dedicated host!

Supergreg 03-10-2007 10:40 AM

Where do I pay my subscription fee to help support oOple.com?

:)

Gayo 03-10-2007 11:49 AM

I want to pay too !

markwilliamson2001 03-10-2007 11:59 AM

I would happily chip in for this site!

Mark

showtime 03-10-2007 12:47 PM

i'm new to 10th but i've learned loads fom this site

most sites who ask people to be supporters just ask for a tenner paid via paypal & they give you a site supporter banner up to the left under your name!

i would support you like this :)

Adam

MattADH 03-10-2007 08:29 PM

Watch out guys!!! That nutter Adam from 1:8 nitro is now on here!!!

showtime 03-10-2007 09:03 PM

well i reckon you should blame Lee as he's talked me & Flanders into trying 10th now:o
apparently it will help my driving? which could be good as i need help

MattADH 04-10-2007 09:04 AM

You are always welcome at Eden Park - we have a meet this Sunday but I guess you are at the Novarossi race. If you are trackside on Friday, I may see you there!!!

FYI, EPR Are running on the first Sunday of every month from October to March!!!

David Church 04-10-2007 03:37 PM

Jimmy, it is a very good idea to ask for voluntary contributions to keep this site running the way you want. If you ask for the money in advance you could pay for your host with this money, which would lower the risk of you being out of pocket.

Oh and I would happily pay to use this site!!!!
Jimmy your my hhhhhhheeeeeerrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!! !:D

i think a fee should be used to pay for your time and site ie yearly membership;)

jimmy 04-10-2007 10:48 PM

Hey sorry guys - what started as a fun evening quickly turned into a vodka fueled nightmare as some nobjockey deleted me as admin on here! lol

I managed to wrestle control back, but I might as well 'let on' now that I have a new dedicated server and the forum is already up and running there to test it out. Hopefully that should be more secure and should see an end to these lame warriors.

ashleyb4 04-10-2007 11:01 PM

YAY inderpendant server i can now have all the oOple fun i want. Im glad to hear that jimmy it must be very stressful with all this hacking and stuff gonig on. I like this competition link at the top what is the competition?????

A

jimmy 04-10-2007 11:40 PM

Unfortunately like a coupe of reviews, the competition(s) are on hold since whatever I do seems to get urinated upon 5 minutes later, rendering all my hard work useless...

I was on ultra-stress mode yesterday since I got the new server up and running but couldn't upload the forum database since it was a slightly older version of mysql, so I had to edit a 220mb database file in wordpad! - and I had to learn how to upload that via SSH. It really did my head in and I was up until 2am, had to leave the computer on all night to upload the huge database, then managed to restore it at 7:30 this morning.

I really wanted to add some more cool functions and create a new site before moving over - but it looks like I'm gonna have to just bite the bullet and move before I'm fully ready.

bigred5765 04-10-2007 11:45 PM

just turn of the data base in control panel jimmy while work is carried out then we know its u and not some lame ass hacker, we all understand and sympathise with you keep up all the good work mate its worth it in then end,
paid subs is the way to go, do a poll if ur unsure

jimmy 04-10-2007 11:55 PM

I might do that carl, but I'd ADD as much as I could for 'subscribers' rather than take away from everyone else. I'm not mean! I've found out the hard way that I've created a monster and that it's not cheap to run even a moderately popular website at all.

I have done all I can to keep this old site running - I have spent hours fixing the hacks and other things. it's still here at the moment, just.

bigred5765 04-10-2007 11:58 PM

u might wanna add a portal like mine and Chris's its is harder to get in did u use the people i gave ya for servers

jimmy 05-10-2007 12:11 AM

no I'm using the same people that neo-buggy.net use, he's been with them something like 6 years and swears by them so I thought it was worth a try since he seems to have no problems. :)

rcracer 05-10-2007 12:18 AM

nobody will complain about a subcription Jimmy, if they do they just tight arses :D...

WheelNut 05-10-2007 02:39 AM

This site is awesome, and I hope it stays around for a looooooooong time! To hell with hackers!

that should be ok then ;)
i'm not sure on the exact hit rate he gets but its something astronomical when there's a big meeting on :o

c0sie 05-10-2007 09:55 AM

Re: donations/whatever you want to call it.

I think the shit hot photography alone would justify a subscription to any man/woman/child who appreciates this site and the quality of the photos.

ashleyb4 05-10-2007 10:27 AM

I would pay a subsricption or maybe you should make a thing called the oOple supporters like they have on modelsports UK and on UK micro I would become a supporter now.

A

ashleyb4 05-10-2007 08:03 PM

Jimmy

i think you should just open up the option for people to become site supporters, you don't need to necessarily give them extra priveleges but thats an option? private lounge maybe? probably not needed tbh as from what i can see people seem pretty keen anyway :)

you can add an image like this http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...f?t=1191651305 by peoples usernames to show who is a supporter ;)

i support a few sites & you'd be surprised exactly how many people would step up when given the opportunity!
usually its a donation of a tenner via paypal and if that seems expensive to somebody consider the fact that just 1 piece of good advice from here could save you much more than that for a wrong purchase, how many times have we all bought something that later turned out to be duff then realised if we'd read up on it we would have known
access to that kind of information is worth a tenner alone as is the excelent event coverage and awesome pics:D

i should be in sales LOL:D
