on board RC camera

I can't remember his name, but he's a crazy bloke who races a 4wd SC10 at Coventry with a camera inside it. I think his name was Steve someone. His truck is red and black and very battered lol.

The camera records as soon as powered up off the 3rd channel.

any one know what that bit of kit was called? I found 1 when he told me, but can't remember at all what it was now.

ravens 21-10-2010 04:33 PM

Maybe its FlyCamOne -> http://flycamone.com/

A tinny cheaper camera with good results but without 3rd channel activation is keychain camera, found on ebay.

Hi,
I've had some great results with one of those cheap key chain cameras.
Check out my video on Youtube:

Amazing quality for the price. About £8!

Have fun :)

Chequered Flag Racing 23-10-2010 07:46 AM

Flycam inside a TC shell at Don Valley. Have seen better off-road in & outdoor using same camera though.

tsan 23-10-2010 03:27 PM

I just bought one of those cameras that ravens linked to. Can't go wrong for a little more than $1. (well, after shipping it came to something like $7)
I've never used the that camera in particular, but I have used a different one:

The one I used on this video isn't quite as good as the keychain kind, and it's shape was a little trickier to mount too. It was shaped like a usb thumb drive, and after it was strapped to my shock tower, stuck up above the wing. (bad for roll overs;)) Plus, the sound/video sync is off by a half second or so.

Xizor 26-10-2010 11:02 PM

Yeah, that's the same as the one I've got.
Looks like they are even cheaper now! :o
You will need a micro SD card as well though of course.

Cheers

Big G 26-10-2010 11:34 PM

they're so cheap you could fit 1 facing forward and 1 facing back :D

hero cam , the quality aint there though,, as well as my driving :p but i put that down to the extra weight from the camera ;)

Richard Lowe 27-10-2010 09:46 AM

Yes I stacked it a couple of times :p

Big G 27-10-2010 09:50 AM

HD Hero I believe (wasn't mine)

Balders 27-10-2010 01:46 PM

I've always fancied one of these for RC car racing recording. They are pricey but can do 720p at 60fps so you can do those cool slow motion shots with it.

Smaller than a hero and looks easier to fit to a car!

http://www.contour-hd.co.uk/contourhd-1080p.html

arounds £200 is not cheap though..

That's the FlycamOne that ravens mentions...

Big G 27-10-2010 02:38 PM

yeah I think I'll get 1 of those. 15g isn't too harsh to carry around either

Frecklychimp 27-10-2010 09:30 PM

One of our members at A1 Racing Club had a camera on his HPI Blitz last night at an indoor club meeting, was surprised how good the video turned out.

Will find out what he was using as it would be good to have a few camera cars in the heats!

Below is a vid with it strapped to my M-05 at my local club.

Big G 14-11-2010 04:36 PM

that keyfob one is very impressive for the money

do you always have to have the date/time at the bottom?
what size and price is/was the memory card to go in it?

bodgit 14-11-2010 04:58 PM

I just got one of the keyfob ones its really good.
I got it in an ebay auction with the sd card and card reader for £10.50 free delivery. Non on open bidding now but this guy is good and fast.

shaun m 15-11-2010 09:21 PM

ive just got one of these , made a mount to fit into my touring car ( a post on top of the top deck )

but how do you mount yours , pics inside would be nice ...

MRD 15-11-2010 09:26 PM

My keyfob camera came last week. Its so good I ordered two more . Can't wait to get the planes out again and get some video 100ft up.

bodgit 15-11-2010 09:29 PM

Any idea how to reset the date or better still remove it.

MRD 15-11-2010 09:39 PM

You alter the date using a txt file in the root dir but I've not got it to work properly. Not sure how to remove it tho.

mole2k 15-11-2010 09:49 PM

I got one too, here's one of the quick video's I took.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zatHjqT64E

ravens 15-11-2010 09:56 PM

I believe date can not be removed. But you can crop the video or use a virtualdub filter to blur that anoying timestamp. For both processes you must reencode the video.

Here's a website with some usefull tools,mods,hints for keyfob camera -> http://chucklohr.com/808/
Virtualdub pluggin -> http://www.aircommandrockets.com/md80clone.htm

welsh wizad 15-11-2010 10:20 PM

cam

any one got any pic of the camera thanks

MRD 15-11-2010 10:21 PM

To set the time make a txt file called TAG.txt.

In it copy:

[date]
2010/11/15
22:18:00

Make sure the time and date is current. Save it to the FIRST directory (the one with DCIM in). Unplug the camera, tak a pic then plug it back in. Hey presto the time is now correct :D

Thanks for the info.

bodgit 15-11-2010 10:34 PM

Put it on the dashboard on antislip mat the other day. Took very clear video. Could be handy to use all the time for proof if you ever get into an accident.
Trying to fix it on the bike next.

blu tack works well on the dash, holds my small digi cam well

lochness42 19-11-2010 10:11 AM

My contribution - vid made with the same keychain cam on the front of F1 car.
Track is a bit bumpy so sorry for a little bit of blur.
Yes it's the best small cam for the money. Would buy it again.

Garry 19-11-2010 05:59 PM

My keychain camera on an M05. The bouncyness was a combination of thin bodyshell rattling on the mounts, and not a lot of oil left in the shocks

mole2k 19-11-2010 06:22 PM

I had a couple of very big off's last night and the camera survived fine so I recon it's pretty strong. Must see if I can upload a crash compilation video :P

I even managed to get a barrel roll on video!

Garry 19-11-2010 09:37 PM

I noticed in an accident (or any big impact) with the keychain camera that the sound cuts, then fades back up again.

BTW, with that camera, this website is the bible and shows all the differences with the versons: http://www.chucklohr.com/808/
