Base Model TRF201

Hmmm i wonder what cost they will launch this at ? Lets hope they dont price it out of the market....

budgio 10-10-2010 04:32 PM

I,m just wondering what its going to be called...?
Tamiya sometimes come up with some awful wacky names.

Nige 10-10-2010 05:00 PM

Looks like there's going to be an alternative body shell for the TRF201 (see DN-01) --> http://www.tamiya.com/japan/hobbysho...1010/news1.htm

Fredrik Emilsson 10-10-2010 06:46 PM

New body is included in kit together with TRF201 wing.

Isīnt it great that they make a "budget" buggy that can be upgraded?
Now you donīt have to choose DT-02 or TRF 2WD buggy. Better for both customers and Tamiya.

Balders 10-10-2010 07:13 PM

Up until now if someone had asked me what car shall i go for to start out with the stock answer has always been a B4.... not any more! :)

peetbee 14-10-2010 08:37 AM

Zahhak? :woot:
I see Tamiya have excelled themselves in the weird name department this time!

super gripper 14-10-2010 09:16 AM

OMG it looks awful :woot: I race the TRF201 and was hoping to get one of these for spares.:eh?:

Maybe not but I could sell on the horrid body shell I suppose plus any other non racing parts.

F1END 14-10-2010 09:43 AM

I think I'm gonna be sick.
I'll just save up a bit more and get the TRF201 I think.

After you with the sick bucket..... :wtf:

Theres a lesson in how to put prospective buyers off a potentially good starter buggy :bored:

DCM 14-10-2010 10:15 AM

Pink wheels are a no-no... the body isn't 'offensive' but isn't pretty either, think I may get one for me daughter!

peetbee 14-10-2010 10:46 AM

Do you think that they saw how well the X6 sells and thought it's success was down to it's looks and decided that to outsell it they had to make their car even uglier!!

It's making the new Jconcepts shells look more appealing though :woot:

muratti 15-10-2010 06:44 AM

At least there is hope that they will do some other coloured 2WD Front wheels other than white. Although i donīt think i would like to get the pink ones....

/tobys 15-10-2010 07:45 AM

ee gads!

looks like one of those old mardave shells you used to have to paint on the outside...!

Now you've seen it, are you quite so sure you could tell someone to buy a Zahhak?! :woot:

Mr. Red 15-10-2010 11:18 AM

I wonder how big of a hit the trf201 would of been if it had that shell instead.

Chris56 15-10-2010 03:17 PM

What type of name is "Zahhak" and how the hell do you pronounce it?:confused:
They should have stuck to their traditional naming methods and called it "the Toad":lol:

Think of a cat coughing up a furball - I think it's close to that. That shell design fell out of the fugly tree and hit every branch on the way down...

Pablo668 15-10-2010 03:25 PM

Yeah that looks pretty awful with that painjob/colour scheme.

However, I'm thinking with a retro paintjob that body wouldn't look half bad, say something reminiscent of the 'Wild One'?

I'm a bit puzzled as to why they are bothering with a budget model of this buggy. I thought that the 201 was pretty damn cheap for a racing level buggy anyway.

Zahhāk or Zohhāk (in Persian: ضحاک) is an evil figure in Iranian mythology, evident in ancient Iranian folklore as Aži Dahāka, the name by which he also appears in the texts of the Avesta. In Middle Persian he is called Dahāg or Bēvar-Asp, the latter meaning "[he who has] 10,000 horses".

mole2k 15-10-2010 06:46 PM

I think it should of been called the Tamiya Log Munch as somebody on here suggested :D

DCM 15-10-2010 06:50 PM

could always put the TRF201X body on it though.....

budgio 16-10-2010 10:04 AM

I knew it would be wacky, are the windows gaffer taped? :)

Nige 29-10-2010 01:10 PM

Fusionhobbies in the UK now have the Zahhak for sale on pre-order, it's a snip at Ģ207 !!!!

http://www.fusionhobbies.com/Tamiya-...-p/ta58477.htm

That price is crazy

DCM 29-10-2010 01:23 PM

Ģ147 from Rainbow Ten

Metla 30-10-2010 10:30 PM

wow......just wow.

I had even been selling off the buggies my kids use in anticipation of getting a couple of these so we could all run in the same class further down the line.

But god damn Tamiya, what a way to sabotage a platform, The name is crap as is the entire look, It all combines to make me want to avoid it completely.

Maybe I'll wait for the next version:bored:

liam 12-12-2010 11:01 AM

I actually really like the look of this buggy.

Not many places seem to have it in stock in the Uk tho...wonder why?

The main reason will simply be Hobbyco.
Lots of people are finding them to deal with, more are finding that they can't get the parts that racers want which leads to more racers shopping abroad and then finding out that they can buy the parts for the same price as Hobbyco was charging the UK shops.

Just my opinion of course!

Agree the Hobbyco are rubbish, but it isn't there fault that no one in the UK has them in stock - the Zahhak isn't released yet, on sale from 18th December. ;)

DCM 12-12-2010 08:42 PM

I could almost guarantee that Hobby Co. won't have them in stock for 18th December, let alone have them out to retailers for then!

Yep agree , I meant on sale in Japan from 18th!

DCM 12-12-2010 08:57 PM

might just have to order one, get me daughter off the B4!

liam 13-12-2010 08:45 AM

So there wont be a UK RRP?

It might be cheaper to get a decent 2nd hand 201?

Not that ive got any cash these days

Fusionhobbies (UK based) have them on pre-order @ Ģ207, ouch! http://www.fusionhobbies.com/Tamiya-...-p/ta58477.htm

So probably better off getting a 2nd hand TRF201.

peetbee 13-12-2010 10:03 AM

Ģ207?? And you've still got to replace the shocks, as there is no way you'd want to run the standard plastic ones.
Ouch!

Can't see many people opting for that over the Losi 22 at Ģ190 or the B4.1FT at Ģ209.
