RudeBits weights for RB5 and ZX5
Hi all
As many of you know I now drive the Kyosho cars and this has given me the oppotunity to make the right weights for the cars. Here we go with the first one for the RB5 SP2. An under servo weight coming in at 56g. On the SP2 you do though need to just shave a little of the front cover for the steering to pass by. Have a look it's already on the RudeBits website More soon http://www.rudebits.co.uk/shop/image...b5weighti1.jpg http://www.rudebits.co.uk/shop/image...b5weighti5.jpg |

Nice Job Tony.
I will add that to my shopping list for when a get an RB5 |
Just ordered one Tony, as i found need more weight in front of the 2wd:p

Get it done Neil and Rob yours goes out this morning....
As promised some other useful weights for the Kyosho cars. Here we also have an adjustable centre spine weight kit. Each weight is 15g and there are 4 that would equate to 60g right in the centre spine of the chassis as tested and advised by Nick Caro - (cheers Nick). An ideal place for the weights and with the 2 centre screws already there for fixing. More on the RudeBits website of course and available now Cheers all http://www.rudebits.co.uk/shop/image...tablekiti2.jpg |
Oo I'll have to get these.
Are the chassis holes there already etc? |

what advantage does the weights have for the 2wd tony
|
Might well be after the FS chassis weights myself, got to be better than the bits of ex church roof I'm using currently ;)
Must say I'm not sure I'd personally want so much weight over the front of an RB5 but I can see many will like it. |

Virtually all 2wds have a tendency to pick up their nose on hard acceleration and a bit of weight out front helps keep it down. Also when it gets slippery a bit extra weight puts a bit more load on the front tires which helps compensate a little for the reduction in bite. You want the weight low to aid roll and pitch stability, with the design of the RB5 the only low places you can add weight is inside the front bulkhead / nose (I've got about 30g of melted in lead inside mine), the front hinge pin mount (like the one Ghea do) and in the servo tray area. Tony has designed a piece that adds a fair chunck of weight low but as it lifts the servo a little it will still raise the front ends centre of mass relative to the front hinge pins ... still about the best compromise possible inside the RB5s crowded nose.. I don't run any weight there, only inside the nose (have a Ghea hinge pin block / bulkhead but haven't run it in dry conditions and only once in the wet) and I have 10g on the top of the upper front chassis brace and 5g on top of the servo, both come on and off as the conditions require. I personal like the weight a little higher as it helps the car roll a little, generating mechanical grip from the camber change, but can see why others like it lower. What that piece does is offer a good tuning aid, not a bad price either :) |
I want to order those center spine weights for my zx5 but i m a bit confused , the price is 20pounds ea? or 20 pounds per set of 4?
thanks |

Hi all.
Sorry I haven't replied I was getting ready for my first race with the cars last night – and yes did good with the RB5 - Qualified 2nd and finished 2nd with the fastest lap of the meeting but that was just a little club meeting very well run by the new indoor venue at Taplow. All orders have been accepted and are going to be shipped out first thing Monday morning. The reason for an under servo weight and soon an under Lipo weight for the RB5 is a simple one really. Stops the car doing wheelies and makes it a much more stable car. On high grip surfaces like I was racing on last night (indoor carpet), the under servo weight is more or less a must. In fact one could argue that 56g is just short of enough. Like others have stated before and on many threads, it is a tuning aid but for me it stays in all the time. I was also using a under Lipo weight for testing last night and this will be available from early next week……this weight looks to be very similar to the same one used on the Associated B4 and on the Schumacher Cougar……….There will be three available at 50g – 66g and 84g…….. I am testing some more prior to these being released…... The idea of this is to gain the right balance especially over bumpy sections and jumps...... The adjustable weights for the ZX5 are right in the correct place for any weight and again can be tuned to suit all conditions as there are 4 parts at 15g each that equate to 60g if all used - yes price is inclusive of all the parts as a package. Here is the under Lipo weight soon to be available....… http://www.rudebits.co.uk/images/myp...5underlipo.jpg :) |
Excellent Tony, I'd say the Lipo weight is probably spot on. I've been running about 120g under mine all year and I think it's a little too much

Hi
When you put all this extra weight on the car what motor did you use ?I know the track influence on this ,but less say mid range track. Cheers Anibal |

I use 5.5 or 6.5 and rarely 7.5 in my 4wd cars. I use 6.5 or 7.5 or 8.5 in my 2wd cars. I do not change motors because of weight ever. I only change motors to what I feal is right for the track and conditions. Hope this helps |
It helps,thanks Tony
Im going to run the indoor season with a brand new RB5SP2 and this weights is a must have ,last winter i was runnig a X6 with 1730gr and the usual motor was 9.5T, didn´t make the job ,the most confortabel motor did i use was a 6,5T with the extra weight.Think im goingo to buy a a 7,5T and of course the RudeBits weights:thumbsup: Cheers Anibal |

Hi again. If you was looking for a good set up and weights for indoors I have that now. My car last night was superb.I will fill out a set up sheet and post for you but not on this thread. The weight used last night was a 52g under Lipo and a 56g under Servo - real good!! - 6.5 motor on a 22 pinion standard spur :) |
If you have a look on Petit Rc I think Nick Caro has posted up his setup for carpet. It's basically the same as I ran (our cars where almost identical at Petit) but now Nick has managed to find something that works for him with minimal extra weight. I'd suggest starting with his setup but with a bit of extra weight in (Tony's 66g LiPo weight should be just the ticket IMHO).
Be interesting to see how Tony's setup differs to Nick's .... hurry up and post it Tony ;) |

Weights for the ZX5
Hi Tony/ Guys
Looking at your website and also the post on oople and was wondering if you will be making any more weights for the ZX5 either FS or FS2? I know that you have poduced the centre spine ones but is there a need for wieght to be added under the cells. Seems that looking through general setups that there is a need to get the car upto weight as we are now using LiPo's and not Nicads etc. I know that they are old tech but coming back to the sport after about 8 years away and finding it hard to get my head around the differences with LiPo's compared to Nicads? Any advice on what weight needs adding and where would be great? and also any other advice would be great. Many thanks for any help/advise. Cheers Windy |

The weight through the rear spine of the chassis between the Lipos has come from a few drivers testing and settled with the 60g weight there. Some actually run with less weight and hence the adjustable weight kit made for the car. We don't have any more plans to make more weights for the ZX5 yet as it looks like the car doesn't need it anymore. Saying that we do have some Saddle Lipo under weights if you wanted to try those but they are very heavy at some over 100g and you would also need to raise your Lipo posts as well. I personally don't think the car needs anymore at this stage. Hope this all helps you..... |
To echo what Tony says most people I know, myself included now, run just the 60g in the spine. The FS feels really lively and very well balanced with this amount of weight in. On the odd occassion where a little more is required people seem to just use stick on weight on the side of the LiPo packs, but as stated this is very rarely done.

Hi guys
That does seem to clear that up for me and what is needed for the car. Guess will have to get some more money out of er,indoors for the weight set from tony. Many thanks Windy |
There are other ways rather than the Rude Bits weights but to be honest for the price Tony is asking I think they are a bargain .... I'll be swapping my dodgy bits of church roof for some shiney brass work soon :D
|
Been running the FS weight kit and it's certainly helped, just need to change some other things now.
|
Well, I just keep waiting on my RB5-bits... two weeks for shipping to the Netherlands for an item that's in stock? Hope to test the under servo weight soon!

Your order was sent to you on the day it was ordered. Postage to Holland and France has been slow recently and we have had various emails to this affect. Obviously this is not our fault as we sent your item out the same day as the order was received. Postage is totally out of our control. We can only assure you it has been posted. We would very much appreciate you looking at the postage date on your package when it does arrive and maybe amending your post on the forum that could be taken as a suggestion of bad service. Thanks in advance and please let me know when it does arrive |
Ran 30g of rudebits weights in my fs2 at the weekend, made little difference to the handling of the car but just took away the unsettled feel. This allowed me to push that bit more. Great idea having them 15g each as you can fine tune car. A very good purchase for all fs/fs2 drivers.

What surface was it? Found the weight very useful too, certainly very good weekend before, but this weekend hard to tell as our astro track has gone greasy etc. Great product. Tony did a custom brace for my XXCR last year and that was superb :) |

It was Stotfold last sunday... greasy in the morning and drying out, but only half the track!!!! Just for Tony this one..... I also run diffs loose and slipper just turns when car compressed on table and spur turned. ( Car was pulling wheelies) |
Quote:
As ive said all along... the FS works best with loose'er diffs, not cranked up like the other cars on the market.. theres a defo knack to getting them set up right! Once youve done it you shouldnt have to touch them again for ages  |
Mine is sweet!!!
Just wanted to make Tony jealous, he was saying that mine would slip when he felt them!!! Told him it was punchy..... and wheelies if want to be flash!! |
Quote:
Its just getting out of the habbit of doing the usual diff test, hold one wheel and spur while turning the other wheel.. this way the whole transmission can be set to tight.. if i was to test mine this way now.. i guarentee most people will say its far too loose and it will slip when in reality its spot on, on the track! The way i check.. hold rear wheels between your legs... and turn spur with your thumb... if the slipper slips it should be spot on ( just check on something grippy to see where abouts its at, if too loose nip up slipper 1/4 turn) if its not look at the gearbox outdrive, if this is turning nip diff up 1/8th of a turn and try again.. once set correctly on something really grippy the slipper will slip for a second.. Once youve done this.. just go back to the way you would have checked your diffs... i think you will find your supprised how loose it may feel.. but when on the track its spot on.. Another thing if your slipper is too tight and your running a " separate slipper " you will loose steering.. Also a tell tell sign of a too tight transmission is wear in both gear box outdrives from the main drive shafts... the pin that goes through the ball that sits in the outdrive starts to indent into the outdrive cup. Hope this helps folks  |
