Lee's Lotus "Mini" Detail

Lee got me to do his Lotus last Saturday while getting his 8th stuff ready for the National.

It came out pretty well, no machine polishing needed but i gave it a full de-tar, wash with Zymol shampoo and clay followed by a light hand polish with Autoglym SRP then a nice coating of Dodo Juice Light Fantastic wax, finished by polishing the exhausts (good old Autosol) and treated all the plastics and Tyres with Meguiars Trim Detailer and Hot rims Tyre spray.

The car is stunning though, such a nice colour combination, finished off perfectly with Gloss black rims.

Yes indeedy - he replaced his Astra VXR with it.

mikeyscott 09-09-2010 11:35 AM

Much better!

Saw his VXR at EPR and thought just another Vauxhall!

He's had quite a few nice cars hasn't he ? He needs to get the new M3 ;)

Welshy40 09-09-2010 11:37 AM

Finally got a good car, and got rid of an average one. The best handling car in the dry or wet. Pity my mrs wont let me buy one, i came close.

mikeyscott 09-09-2010 11:43 AM

P/X the Mrs

Nick Goodall 09-09-2010 11:47 AM

The Astra was still pretty cool, it went well and sounded amazing for a "standard" car! I cleaned that up before he sold it too, it was a nightmare to get all the Tar off though, not only because it was white but i think the shape seemed to attract it like flies round sh**.....

I liked it though....

Yeah he's had a fair few nice cars now, you might see a pattern developing but he had a lush Orange Exige (S2) a while back, i spent a few hours cleaning that up too before he sold it :D

Lee Martin 09-09-2010 12:34 PM

'finally got a decent car' LOL!! i had an Exige before the Astra!!!! Good pics goodall!!

mikeyscott 09-09-2010 12:40 PM

Nice choice. Who's going to be carting your kit round then !

Would like a nice car myself, but about to potentially start a 90 mile round commute to HP at Hook each day :(

So my Leon Cupra will be run until she blows

GRIFF55 09-09-2010 01:24 PM

Nice jobs there Nick, did the renault gleam too???
Lee, you need a van next, they're awesome! I remember it pushing the astra around kidderminster. hahahaa

The 350z and BMW 320Cdi weren't bad either in fairness...

millzy 09-09-2010 02:30 PM

I allways liked Lees Saxo, but after the power steering issue one day back to his house i went off it big time lol

mikeyscott 09-09-2010 02:34 PM

What can you recommend for the getting the colour back on a yellow leon cupra

I've got a Leon FR - You'll find like all VAG cars the paint is pretty hard, so i would really suggest a machine polish, but if you don't want to start that yourself or pay someone to do it you can't really beat Autoglym Super Resin polish if you're going to do it by hand...

Use a decent foam applicator pad such as Sonus SFX http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/access...2/prod_31.html

Or the other ones are good too, Zaino http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/zaino/.../prod_462.html

Or the Ultimate German one http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/access.../prod_280.html

They usually have a soft side and a more abrasive side, use the abrasive side for applying the Polish, and the soft side to add your Wax or Sealant....

As far as Paste waxes go, the best value for money is probably Meguiars #16 Paste Wax, it's cheap as you really only need the smallest amount - Don't spread too much on otherwise you'll spend ages (i mean hours) trying to buff it off again. Best to get the surface nicely polished first, the Wax will then add a really nice deep wet look. Yellow should come up well!

(You may get it a bit cheaper if you google it)

Lee Martin 09-09-2010 02:55 PM

millzy! that power steering was nuts! took both of us to steer the bloody thing! hahahahahahah

i also have a work horse car! ;)

mikeyscott 09-09-2010 03:31 PM

Must change to something else. Just worked at that I get 21-22mpg out of my Cupra

I bet the Lotus is 30+

See you missed the great handling. I had a XJR jag for a couple of days before my old man wrote it off. Nothing was left of it but the old git was unhurt.
May have to part ex my wife for something faster.

mikeyscott 09-09-2010 04:33 PM

I don't hoon it, just what it does. It's revo'd and milltek fitted. Got pretty good mpg going to devon back in the summer and got 400 from the tank rather than 280-300

Lowest I have ever had is 180 from a tank on a run to Le Mans.

Is the lotus standard?

Would have the lotus over a xjr

For xjr money rs4 please!

Think I'll cry... If I wasn't about to start a 100 mile a day commute to HP/Fujitsu I'd buy one!

Having said that I could well be getting the train

300 miles in your Leon is about 30 mpg, i only know that as my Golf has the same fuel tank.

You should comfortably get 30mpg anyway, Revo should if anything make it better on fuel anyway..... can't imagine why it would ever do low 20's?

mikeyscott 10-09-2010 08:04 AM

It's due a service and is lumpy on start at the moment, so I'll get my garage - JKM to have a look into it.

It is drinking fuel, I know that

Mk1 Leon? Onvi yellow? If so then only option is a respray, as the paint has faded under the clear coat, polishing it will be like trying to clean a window when the dirt is on the other side!

It's annoying, I had the same colour on an ibiza

Joy, yup that's the colour...

Oh well time to show it no love and just run it into the ground. Days like this I like my car and then absolutley hate it.

antnee 10-09-2010 09:51 AM

I think that's seats in general! I actually put my last one up for sale for a week cos I got annoyed with it!
