IFMAR Worlds Thread

Heres the 'official' IFMAR Off Road Worlds thread - feel free to go mad.

The report is here: http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/worldchampionships-2007/

Ok, there's nothing there at the moment, since, erm, I'm in huddersfield and the World Champs haven't even started yet. :D

I'll be adding stuff gradually in the build-up to the Championships starting.
Me, Vicky and Lee Martin are flying to Tokyo on Wednesday - staying over near Akihabara to see the crazy sights in the craziest area of Tokyo, then flying on to Komatsu on Saturday to join up with the other guys, Ian Boulter and Dave Church - not to mention the rest of the AE team like Neil and Bradders.
I'll certainly have internet access at the track, but as for anywhere else - it's down to what I can find. I'm told Tokyo is very hard to get internet access - not sure how true that is but it's what I was told.

Thanks very (very) much to everyone who's helped with donations - also to Team Associated for their sponsoring the report, along with Neo-Buggy.net. Also thanks to RACER magazine. Without all these guys help we wouldn't be going.

Do you know if there's LIVE coverage on RC-Timing??

It's +8 hrs time difference isn't it?

bbq 03-09-2007 01:35 PM

You are wellcome! This is soo cool!

I want a diffrent report to! you have to try KOBE BEEF!
It´s supossed to be AMAZING

Kobe info
Kobe beef (神戸ビーフ, Kōbe Bīfu?) refers to beef from the black Tajima-ushi breed of Wagyu cattle, raised according to strict tradition in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. Kobe is the capital of Hyogo Prefecture. Kobe beef is also called "Kobe-niku" (神戸肉, "Kobe-niku"? lit. Kobe meat), "Kobe-gyū" (神戸牛, "Kobe-gyū"? lit Kobe cow) or "Kobe-ushi" (神戸牛, "Kobe-ushi"? lit Kobe cow) in Japanese. [1] Wagyu ("Japanese Cattle") are renowned for flavour, tenderness, and fatty well-marbled texture, qualities enhanced by the traditional (and well guarded) methods of raising Kobe beef.

The massive increase in popularity of Kobe beef in the United States has led to the creation of "Kobe-style" beef, taken from domestically-raised Wagyu in order to meet the demand. After all beef imports into Japan were banned for four years due to the discovery of B.S.E., many retailers began to heavily market the U.S. raised beef as "Kobe-style". U.S meat producers claim that any differences between their less expensive "Kobe-style" beef and true Kobe beef are largely cosmetic.[2]

Kobe beef can be prepared as steak, sukiyaki, shabu shabu, sashimi, teppanyaki, and more.

jimmy 03-09-2007 01:46 PM

haha, you and your beefy madness! :D

Sleigh - not sure to be honest - I'm sure someone will have some results!

jimmy 03-09-2007 04:40 PM

Well, we have a few people at work who speak japanese fluently or to some degree - so I've been learning all the valuable phrases.. I can now say
  • Excuse me
  • Good day
  • Thank you
  • Do you speak english?
  • I don't speak japanese
  • Yes
  • No
  • Bar
  • Cheers
  • Nob (!)
I think I'm all set! :confused::D

racingdwarf 03-09-2007 08:43 PM

Excuse me, do you speak english nob?...Should break the Ice nicely over there:eh?:

MK999 03-09-2007 08:58 PM

can you manage a questionative tone? "excuse me, bar? nob, yes good day:)"

or maybe "bar?" wait for reply "nob thank you yes" (these may be more useful to lee :p)

Elliott Hopkins 04-09-2007 08:53 AM

So who do people think are going to win? What will the A finals look like?

Chris Doughty 04-09-2007 08:56 AM

B44 will be pretty strong, 2 out of the top 3 I believe will be B44's

ashleyb4 04-09-2007 08:59 AM

2wd neil should retain his tittle he was on form at the euro's so hopefully should repeat he should pull out a few of his stunning runs.

4wd Not sure is tricky going??? If so he is an A finalist the usuals ryan carlavi or how you spell it, mirasmi hirosaka i can never spell names lol. Neil should make A. And pidge with all that oOple power behind him he is in for a good chance.

A:)

Nick Goodall 04-09-2007 09:03 AM

First of all i hope the forecast that Lee sent me is completely wrong...... but i think you have to expect there to be some quick local guys this year, there is bound to have been some practise going on but i expect the usual will pull through after a couple of rounds of practise.....

I'd expect to see Neil, Cavalieri, Maifield, Masami, Hara and i reckon Lee could make either A final if he drives as he's capable!

Bradders is quick enough as proved already, and i expect there will be a load of the other American drivers there or thereabouts, Billy Easton, Roberts etc.......

Will be great to get the coverage though, really looking forward to it.

jimmy 04-09-2007 10:40 AM

Who's going from the UK?

I'd expect maifield, pidge, cavalieri, cragg, bradders, easton, hirosaka to be up the A in both.
I'll go for

2wd:
Hirosaka
Cragg
Maifield

4wd
Maifield
Hirosaka
Pidge

Pidge is a wildcard, he can go anywhere depending on the previous nights beer consumption.

DCM 04-09-2007 10:45 AM

keep him off the Beer Jimmy (unless he drives better hung over.... then make sure he drinks like a FISH!!!)

jimmy 04-09-2007 10:47 AM

He needs to stay sober! haha - Dave Church on the other hand is fueled by the stuff.

millzy 04-09-2007 10:49 AM

I think the top gius will be (in no order)

Hara x6 d4,Travis x6 d4, Cragg b4 bx , Massami b4 bx , tebo b4 b44, Ryan b4 b44 C, Ryan M b4 b44, Daisuke Yoshioka d4 , Hupo 501.

And lee car make it but is a wild card

bbq 04-09-2007 10:52 AM

i think Cavaleri will take one of the 2 and Masami the other.

_sleigh_ 04-09-2007 10:52 AM

I think Hara has to be a favourite for the top 3 in 4WD.

How much do people think tyres will come into play??? It's a neutral choice and might level out the playing field..

millzy 04-09-2007 10:55 AM

I think 4wd might be a b44 wash out, but its in japan and the d4 squad do look good and will have a load of data for this event

What??? Who me??? Dont believe it you guys!!!!! :wtf:

jim76 04-09-2007 07:57 PM

nobody expecting a few Tamiya/Kyosho home drivers to sneak in on their home track?

andy05 04-09-2007 09:24 PM

People keep saying all the Japanes drivers will have had lots of practice on the track. Dose the track not have to be a "virgin" layout for the worlds. I know they would have practice on the surfface but will the layout not be changed?

yeah they will be quick, when we were talking to the panther guys last week to get practice tyres they told us yokomo have 5000 pairs of tyres and they have been there for a few weeks along with the HB crew.

IFMAR rules say the track has to change by 60%. The track over there has a few different layouts that can be used but the locals and Japanese drivers would have driven every corner thousands of times.

It will be like a superbike round at suzuka... still I am looking forward to driving on it and cant wait to fly out tomorrow!

trekkerkk 05-09-2007 07:17 AM

good luck to all the uk drivers attending,
:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

zaquiz 11-09-2007 07:32 PM

Trhue is doing really good... so a Losi might just be TQ. Incredible first run he did...

bbq 11-09-2007 07:42 PM

He is in a good form with the Losi.
Hope he wins the hole thing to just prove losi still have it

Stu 11-09-2007 07:44 PM

Vik - "What are your thoughts on global warming?"

Jared Tebo - "I don't know, I don't really follow much of that. It would suck though if the day after tomorrow happened."

That's ace.

Vik - next interview, ask them if they get scared on high bridges.

So is Paul Bradby not a Brit too then? Lee and Paul both made the final and top notch to them to, fantastic!! A tough track and great drivers you cant complain. If the track was on grass the Brits would dominate the finals but unfortunately its clay.

Anyway I have to say the the Oople worlds report is most probably the best I have ever seen and will be hard to top. Well done guys on a great job and keep up the great work.

trf14 13-09-2007 06:59 PM

Welshy, I posted just tuesday night, we had still 1 round to go.:)
Just fanastic both made A-final!!!!
Guess the AE team will not be 100% happy as their teamdrivers did not won....

and now it is TRF time in 4wd LOL!!!!

MATTY 13-09-2007 10:59 PM

Good morning jimmy + lads. What’s the weather doing at the moment?

jimmy 13-09-2007 11:04 PM

WET - no marshalls today because its dangerous, marshall your own car.

Arn0 14-09-2007 04:10 AM

Nice job, Jimmy!
That always great to read some good thing.
Pics are ace, just expecting u'r back in UK for more pics.

jimmy 14-09-2007 06:27 AM

I'll revise my weather report since its roasting hot and sunny. The track dried up quickly and the very light showers early on didn't effect things.

I found that rather amusing as well, but even funnier that not many Losi drivers were in the A. Still the Kyosho made the A.
