mad skills motocross

this little game is fantastic!

you can get the demo here
http://www.madskillsmotocross.com/

its a great side-scrolling physics based motocross game, you have to time your jumps and move your weight around to get the good times, its awesome!

Richard Lowe 23-08-2010 08:31 PM

Damn you Doughty!

Whats your best on the 'Climb that hill' track then, mine's 36.34 :)

:::EDIT::: Make that a 33.89 by fluke, the last half of the lap i was flying without a bike

jim76 23-08-2010 09:27 PM

how do you always find these annoyingly addictive little gems?!!
i'm struggling to break 40s on the Hill Climb!

mole2k 23-08-2010 09:44 PM

haha awesome game!

Chris Doughty 24-08-2010 08:57 AM

I was quite actively into finding good 'racing' games based on good physics and a long time ago I saw this in development, I can't remember what reminded me but I searched for it again and its finished and playable

its soo satisfying when you get the jumps right.

a few tips

your bike will go faster when your leaning back and on the throttle pulling a small wheelie, the wheels do have rolling resistance.

if your very skilled, you can land on your back wheel off the jumps and on the throttle and get good drive out of the jump

jim76 24-08-2010 02:53 PM

i've tried most of that, but if you go too fast on that track you miss the "boost" zones, so it screws you're time.

Rich, post a vid of a decent run please, i need to see what i'm doing wrong!!

Nick Goodall 24-08-2010 03:39 PM

WOW - It's like a modern version of Excite bike!!!! Remember that on the NES??? Looks awesome!!

Chris Doughty 24-08-2010 03:55 PM

Nick, you will love this game, the way the bike moves and reacts to bumps and jumps feels just perfect! get the demo downloaded

Chris Doughty 24-08-2010 04:21 PM

best ive just done on climb that hill is 40.83... twice!

knocking seconds off that time is just nuts... how how how?

ok, ive just done a 40.18... but still :S

mole2k 24-08-2010 04:55 PM

I'm running about 41 sec flat on climb that hill and can only really see small places to improve a few tenths. I could maybe see me being able to get a middling 39 at tops!

jim76 24-08-2010 05:18 PM

glad i'm not the only one in the low 40.s!
i think Rich must take a route other than the "standard one" so that he can hit the other speed boost and clear the huge canyon?

ive tried that, I scrub off too much speed to make the extra boost worth it...

any other times on other tracks? they should be super-close..

jim76 24-08-2010 08:10 PM

sweet music, the first track. I'm about 52.44s
Killing me softly, 2nd track 42.84
Nitro - 13.18

Richard Lowe 25-08-2010 08:26 AM

I take it everyone is using the little spacebar 'boost' thing? It fires from the bottom of the bike so when you are leaning forward it boosts you along...

Also front flips are your friend ;)

I seem to take a different route each time lol, at the end of the lap I use the last boost and one mid jump which clears the big bombhole thing and lands between the first and second rollers at the start of the lap. The hardest bit is timing when you fire the boost as you land so the bike doesn't snap in half

That 33 was a complete fluke, I can do 34's quite often but any faster will be complete luck!

Chris Doughty 25-08-2010 08:38 AM

aha, thats why, no im not using that....

lets do a 'no tricks' times... no spacebar

jim76 25-08-2010 08:43 AM

thought the space bar wass only on the Nitro course?! that explains it!!

samd 25-08-2010 10:03 AM

Is everyone using the arrow keys or different controls??

Chris Doughty 25-08-2010 10:12 AM

just old skool arrows for me

samd 25-08-2010 10:37 AM

Yea thought so, it jut giving me finger cramp I'm pushing that up arrow so hard!

jim76 25-08-2010 08:08 PM

am i the only one who doesn't seem to have the spacebar boost? only on the nitro track for me.
Rich, have you got the full retail version?

Richard Lowe 25-08-2010 09:24 PM

No demo version here

I can do 40.48 without the boost, I'll get FRAPS fired up either tonight or tomorrow and get a video :)

jim76 25-08-2010 09:41 PM

yeah, i'm pretty similar with no boost. pressing space for me on that track does nothing :(

Richard Lowe 28-08-2010 10:38 PM

I'm down to 30.93 now with boost on the last track

Youtube video uploading, I'm sure sub 30 is possible :D

col300 29-08-2010 06:26 AM

27.44 on climb that hill with the boost! Just get some good air and keep using the boost.

I've not got any option to view the replay in the game  Did you use time attack or arcade mode?

The only option I have for a replay is straight after a run in arcade mode. Unless I'm missing something.

I leave FRAPS running in the background, do some runs then when I get a good one click on replay at the end and start FRAPS recording, simples :D

col300 30-08-2010 07:14 PM

OK, managed a 28.23 with video: -

View My Video

Still think its possible to go quicker too.

daz 30-08-2010 10:46 PM

I think its space with the default controls, but you can only use it on the last few tracks.

You can also change the controls under options.

Chris Doughty 07-09-2010 11:29 AM

no boost runs only... lets get some RC style skill going on and no random flying shizzle :woot:

daz 07-09-2010 11:34 AM

That boost thing doesnt work with me anyway.

Chris Doughty 07-09-2010 01:34 PM

exactly, me neither... no boosty racing please

jim76 07-09-2010 03:18 PM

i remapped the controls and still no boost for me.
anyone broken 40s without boost on the hill climb?

anyone got the full game, is it worth the investment?

jameswilkinson7 07-09-2010 04:40 PM

40.09 so far without boost on climb that hill

Richard Lowe 07-09-2010 09:11 PM

39.94 without :p

Chris Doughty 08-09-2010 09:06 AM

my best is a 39.59

I wonder if there is any way to transfer the 'ghost' riders to race each others best times?
