Atomic Carbon at the "Worlds 2007"

Yep thats right, there will be Atomic Carbon cars at the worlds this year, you guessed it I am going, and will be running both the S-2 and S-4 cars, with freshly painted shells, a big thanks to Jonathon and Craig Harris!!!!!!!
I have also be given a few other bits so I can shamelessly promote this at Japan!!!!

OldTimer 27-08-2007 09:51 AM

And Fred Pain will be also running a S4 at the worlds ;) to keep Mr Church company :D

David Church 27-08-2007 10:24 AM

i hope he speaks English!!! I might have to give him some setup tips, hahahaha

OldTimer 27-08-2007 10:27 AM

Not drinking tips :D

David Church 27-08-2007 10:38 AM

Who??? Me??????.......................................... ..

PaulRotheram 27-08-2007 10:44 AM

Japan has no idea what theyve got coming when you go churchy :D

twister1 28-08-2007 11:33 AM

Hi David, there is no problem, we could exchange set-ups. My english is quite bad, but some of my friends speak better.

Body Paint 28-08-2007 11:41 AM

Good luck to both Dave and Fred at the Worlds.

May the Force be with you!!

Chris Doughty 28-08-2007 12:01 PM

I would start with the following shock setup, the rest of the car as normal.

front
silver spring, internal spring + 1mm limiter
maybe red piston and 35 or 30wt oil depending how hot it is.
black piston if there are no bumps only jumps
middle on tower, inner on wishbone

rear
pink spring, no limiters (using 1.2 body and 1.0 shaft)
blue piston and 30 or 35wt oil depending on how hot it is
orange piston if there are no bumps only jumps.
inside on tower (outside if you want the rear to side more on corner entry)
inside on wishbone.

OldTimer 28-08-2007 12:06 PM

Looking at the photos of the worlds track http://www.epoff-ifmarworlds.com/photo/alubum_top.htm i think playing with anti squat will be a important thing to test, as it looks like a large track with high speed bumps, i am guessing zero anti squat should work well.

Is that set-up for a S2 or S4 ?

Chris Doughty 28-08-2007 12:52 PM

S4 starting setup.

twister1 28-08-2007 01:02 PM

thank you very much, i have a race for the french championship, i'll try your set up there ! thanks again

David Church 28-08-2007 07:00 PM

Yes thanks Chris!!! I will also start with this setup. I am hoping to also have access to the internet trackside( jimmy I am hoping will let me use his, pleeeeeeeeeease) so if I need andmore help, what am I saying, WHEN I need help, I will ask.:wtf:

Body Paint 28-08-2007 09:00 PM

I would agree with the Master ;)

That is the setup I would start with, except I would go with a Green front spring as I like a little less steering than Chris. I typically run the rear of my car the same as Chris but have the front end slightly stiffer.

I would suggest starting with what CD says and if you want a slightly safer car try going up 5 weight oil in the front or a harder spring. As Chris says the black piston may be an option to tame the front end, but only if the track does not rut up.

Just to clarify something Chris said, if it's Really hot you may want to go up in oil as the heat can thin the oil.

I think I would stick to the 2 degree anti squat to help the car get traction and to help the car jump a little easier.

I'll be here waiting to help, just post up on here and I'll do my best.

DC you are more than welcome to come and use the laptop - we should have internet at the track so it should be all good! :) no idea what the time difference is tho.

MattW 28-08-2007 09:30 PM

Looks like it might be GMT+8hrs

Thanks Jimmy, your a star!! And thanks for the setup tips all, now I just need to get the 2wd set up...hint hint........

elvo 29-08-2007 07:58 PM

...shall I? ;)

OldTimer 29-08-2007 08:00 PM

Rude not to ;)

elvo 29-08-2007 08:20 PM

OK, the lastest version of the S2 'Dirt' Set-up:

Front:
#56 piston, 30wt, 2mm limiters, middle on shock tower, inner on wishbone
Orange or silver spring - depending on how much steering you want/need
30° castor, 2 bump steer spacers, camber link A-1, 1 washer
Batteries rear

Rear:
5-5-6 piston with 30wt, or #54 with 35wt if it's really really bumpy
no limiters, inside on wishbone, 2nd hole out on tower, pink spring, short wheelbase. Or medium if the tracks is as large as it looks rom the pics.
Camber link B - outer lowest hole. 1° anti-squat.

Body Paint 29-08-2007 09:30 PM

Set it up the same as Saturday but run 3 degree rear toe in (the bar with 3 notches on) and go for silver front spring and inside hole on front wishbone, you may want to move the camber link in on the tower if you are struggling for rear grip and if you are still lacking rear grip or if the track is rutted up drop a blue piston in the back.

David Church 29-08-2007 10:51 PM

Thanks all, but how do you know all of this??? :wtf:

Body Paint 30-08-2007 07:37 AM

Elvo and I must have been typing at the same time LOL

It's interesting that we have both gone for a very similar setup. Knowing that DC likes his steering to feel "Dead" I opted for the silver front spring and to stick with his current front setup of 25wt black piston and 30wt orange piston.

What do you think Elvo?

elvo 30-08-2007 08:32 AM

I think it would be spot on then!

David Church 22-09-2007 08:15 AM

I would like to say a big thanks to all the French guys!!!! These guys were great, they helped out by putting my car on the track, and we also helped out with setups. Any chance of getting some of those photos? I was supposed to get them trackside, but well, I was worn out by the end.
But the cars were great, we got the 4wd going very good, I managed a 39 in round 5!!! Fred and I were in the same final in 4wd, and he drove a faultless race for the win, well done dude!!!!!!
