Just got a 201 and was just wondering if there is anything I need like springs, weights, etc etc

DCM 03-08-2010 09:38 PM

front springs(running AE Browns at the mo), and weight under the servo and lipo.

Rich D 03-08-2010 09:44 PM

Sorry to thread Hijack, but why the AE brown and not any of the TRF 201 fronts Steve ?

the kit springs were to soft, and I haven't had time to order up the fronts yet, and not sure if they go hard enough, as I find the 4wd fronts are to soft to.

DCM 03-08-2010 09:58 PM

oh yes, and the RW idler gear, plus the layshaft when it is done!!

Rich D 03-08-2010 09:59 PM

Ah right, ive got the 201 front kit although im unsure which is softest ?

There are green, brown, black in it.

The std ones i know from the 416 are :-

Red - soft
yellow - medium
blue - "hard"
white - harder

If anyone can edit my list to fit the 201 front springs in order then it would be appreciated.

Tamiya USA says

Cheers mate that helps a little

DCM 03-08-2010 10:15 PM

I know AE Browns were a bit stiffer than the kit springs.

MikePimlott 04-08-2010 12:00 AM

get the 501 spring kit front and rear. the 201 front spring kit is too soft.

lead under servo and cells.

msxmre 04-08-2010 12:35 AM

How much weight are you guys running under lipo and servo? Can the weight be placed anywhere else like on top of lipo battery?
Thanx in advance
Scotty...

Tony Evdoka of Rudebits is the man to ask. Can't recommend his service highly enough

201

Hi Dan
I've put the rudebits brass weight ( heavy one) under the servo, Ansmann do a under lipo brass weight too, & Trf blue springs up front & Trf yellows on rear mate, Tried to get it as close to Lee Martins as possible.

dbizzle5 04-08-2010 06:49 AM

Thanks everyone. So at the moment I guess the 411 spring kit and a bit of lead will be fine for the meantime.

cheers:thumbsup:

And the RW idler gear bud. Seems luck of the draw as to whether the STD one will hold together. They are only a fiver from MK Racing.

Lee Martin 04-08-2010 07:11 AM

AE brown springs are still too soft unless your racing on dirt?

to add to the 201 kit - i advise

-rudebits brass
-option springs

Then once you want more stuff:

-.5 degree rear hubs
-blue bling
-Ghea pistons
-Rudebits carbon strap

;)

msxmre 04-08-2010 07:34 AM

Lee, Rich and DCM could you let me know which weight you're putting under lipo battery and servo as Tony's got a couple of different weights.
I'm gonna order some.
Thanx guys
Scotty...

JustARcFan 04-08-2010 07:44 AM

Few questions:

to add to the 201 kit - i advise

-rudebits brass 84gr under the lipo + 70gr under the servo
-option springs TRF501X Spring set?

Then once you want more stuff:

-.5 degree rear hubs Where do you use them as on astro and grass we always use 0° or is this something specific for the 201?
-blue bling
-Ghea pistons Which ones for grass and astro?
-Rudebits carbon strap

DCM 04-08-2010 08:24 AM

I made my own tapered pistons!
501 front springs are a little longer I think.... not by much though

Lee Martin 04-08-2010 08:44 AM

i use between 50 & 100 grams under my lipo. average 80.

Springs - get the harder ones. green and then some 511 blue's.
i use .5 degree rear hubs everywhere.
pistons - 1.3 x 2 hole & 1.4 x 2 hole

jasonrcb 04-08-2010 08:53 AM

Lee is the under weight you run with the brass or carbon battery strap

Where do yo get spring kits, rear hubs, blue bling etc from? In fact any Tamiya spares?

GRIFF55 04-08-2010 03:41 PM

lee gets everything direct from tamiya. Everybody else uses fusion hobbies, rcmart, mushroom etc as there is not much spares support in the uk. hope this helps

tony6187 04-08-2010 03:59 PM

qare the .5 hubs out yet?

DCM 04-08-2010 04:04 PM

August 18th I beleive, along with the alloy squat blocks RF and RR for it to!

Ebay is good Dan when you know the part numbers, easy way of buying from HK/Malaysia/Japan

The 201 comes pretty much hopped up out of the box compared to the 511 though.

The zero degree alloy rear hubs are part number 53962 but they are only bling and stronger. I run them on my 511.

DCM 04-08-2010 05:25 PM

I am inclined to get the 0.5' rear hubs, but the big upgrade I am doing, is the alloy suspension holders.... otherwise the only other upgrade I done, is the imperial front axles.

They offer rear camber link height adjustability that the stock ones don't. So they are not "just bling".

Yes, apologies, you`re right there. I overlooked that as i ran them from new.

For my 201 i have bought upgrades/bling

Ghost Ceramic balls
Ghost Ceramic thrust balls
Full Rudebits Weights ( under servo and under lipo )
TRF lightweight motor mount
TRF titanium screw set
zero degree 53962 rear alloy hubs until the 0.5 degree ones are available.
RW idler
RW spur

Will get

Ghea pistons
alloy suspension mounts

DCM 04-08-2010 07:12 PM
