Ansmann/TQ/TC : the off thread
From an idea of elod, I open this thread about talk "when nothing new" :)
I'm waiting my new motor, a Robitronic 8.5T, which should arrived on monday, so I could run my Mad rat on next saturday. |

good idea i am looking for a suplyer of 3mm cf or 4/5mm G10 sheet anyone know where i can get this? also expect me to be creating a "PRO" master smacker:thumbsup: |
Thanks kedal! ;)
I also have bought several items which I broke during the last period, between other thing also an antenna for my radio :P I was pulling it out too fast on a race and it just came out the second last section. I also bought that ( .... what is it? Front hub carrier? on which the wheel axle is mounted ) what made my front wheel fell off on each jump an a race :P Still, I don't like my monster truck.... The Mad Rat is much simplier, much easyer to fix or to clean. I am really thinking in buying a B-fast diff, before the stock becomes unusable. Do you know guys, where could I find some off road track plans? If I would succeed to make a track here, i would like to make it interresting, not only turn-straight-turn-straight....... |
Elod, here's a link to a petit RC's theard, a french forum, about a guy who made a 1/10 track on his garden, may help you. If you need translation, just aks :)
http://www.petitrc.com/_forumphp/showthread.php?t=44417 I'm also thinking about bfast diff, but no money for now... I need tires too, so, I'll make an order to TCModels soon, and try the hex alu mount, motor plate mount and this new alu gear, with some flip out jconcept tires :) Bfast diff will wait... but I'm thinking about take 2. Battle-axe : I saw cheap carbon fiber on ebay, check there. |
Wow! Nice track! Very pretty! I would do that in my parents houses garden if they would allow me :P
|
I wanted my 98 year old grandmother to have a drive of my stadium truck since she was fascinated by it and really liked it :) so I ask her to throttle while I was steering. However we ended approaching a brick wall at full speed so I turned it blindly away from the house not known what was around the corner and hit a wheelbarrow at full speed :P lol.
I broke this http://www.tcmodels.net/components/c...41d1915806.jpg Tcmodels are showing no stock :S but for the moment I stole the one from the madrat so the Stadium Truck was running again in just a few minutes. All around it was a very fun moment and well worth the 2 dollar part :) I'm going to order the new Aluminium idler gear when the suspension mount is in stock too and try that out |
|
For the moment I've "done a zagonielod" and super glued it :). Since I'm so happy with the Stadium Truck and couldn't really see myself driving the buggy any time soon I've started converting the Madrat to mid motor  Looks like it will be really easy to do
|
I received my Robitonic motor ! Pics followed up.
|
Did you do test with your new motor :)
|
Yes Ben :) I quickly test on my living room, everything works, apparently no cogging... cant wait to run on saturday !!
I bought a 24T pinion too :) |
Offtopic but kedal your blogs very nice. I wish i could read it though!

Nicefrog, when doing the shared transmitter thing with a newb driver, do it the other way around. You control the throttle and have the newb control the steering. Much safer this way...hehehe. I got my kids into it this way.
But Im sure you figured that out after the fact. |

If you need particular translation just ask. |
I ordered 3 full sets of hex head screws to replace every screw on the team c cars, I don't like the button heads so apart so I'm going to replace most of them with full hex heads and I also got all the counter sunk flat heads. I'm having a lot of trouble with the diff screw loosening all the time so I'm going to get some better 2.5mm lock nuts too, that's the only nut or screw I have to order to have enough to replace them all. I already got a few 2.5 hex heads to replace the annoying Phillips diff screw. Other than that the trucks going really well and fast and easy to drive. Seems to be for me on the tight track with have to be faster than the buggy.
Notme, that's good advice with the throttle vs steering :) next time I'll do that Other than that, I'm going to buy a brushless trainer plane soon and then a 60 amp sensored XErun esc and a sensored 8.5turn Speed Passion motor or maybe even a bit faster than that for the Stadium Truck, I'm also going to finish my Mid Motor Madrat sometime between now and the weekend, having the motor spin towards the rear of the car and the battery hard up against the motor so all the weight is in one spot is the correct setup right?. I need to make a alloy T-piece and a bracket to support the front of the gearbox and motor plate to Chassis and do a bit of grinding to fit the motor in the standard chassis and that's about it |
I see many peoples whant alu hex mont, why? Did there is some problem with the plastic one?
Some personn do a test with the carbone rear chassi? |

I do a test with the carbon rear plate, on a astro.
The car will be more easy, i forget a littel of turn. The rear of the caar don't move and have a lot of gripp. I would like to do a test on track with less gripp, or indoor with aout carpet. |
hi guys! it's very quiet here....
then I'll make some noise :) I've bought today an Etronix probe 12 ESC for the stock Clash motor. Also bought a set of StepUp Stinger rear tires on wheels. A set of B4 diff thrust screw with nuts. Some spare 5X10X4 Abec35 bearings. (and 4 rechargeable batteries -I had allready for- cas I'm tired of buying new batteries which after use have to be thrown out... ) Looks like I'll have another race on the weekend if it won't rain. Edit the diff thrust screw.... It is 25mm long in total, but only 2mm in diameter. Will it be good?... |
I'm going to place an order to TCModels.net to take some option and test jconcept tires :)
Elod, what is the diametre of the stock thrust screw ? |

I made the break in for the Clash motor today, mounted deans connectors on the ESC cas it came with Tamiya |
|
Hey Rob! Is that you with the yellow cars on this video?
:) ...don't know why the video doesn't show heres the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBPJB...ure=grec_index |
That's Mike Friery driving the lead yellow Losi truck...
Nice to see Neil Cragg from here in the UK getting dusty in the US :) J |

haha i wish that was me. I loved that track tho! |
hi fellas! :)
I thought I tell that tomorrow I will have another race with the MadRat :) Only that now with a stock brushed system. BIG difference tho between my brusless system and this brushed.... The startup is muuuuch much smoother but than.....it ends there :P I have the stock clash motor with the 21T pinion. What else could I do to make it faster?..... |
Did you get good tyres yet? it'll be twice as fast then
|
1 Attachment(s)
Yes. I got these tires
|
Is that what the other guys at your track use?
|
No. This is what I have seen on a Step up Stinger buggy and I liked it with those big spikes. and I got the two whole rear tires(tire+wheel) for about.....15usd ? I will see this evening if they are any better like the stock tires. The "MadRat firend" have bought a set of PL Calibers :P I will try those too ;)
|
Ok. I'm leving now cas the race is in another city and we have to get there. CU gusy and will be back with news and pics. Hopefully videos too ;)
|
Goode race elod !
|
Hi friends!
So I said, i was racing yesterday in the stock class with the Ansmann clash motor ( :P and have to say that it did petty well, with a 23T pinion :) ), and as promised I'll do a short summary of it. The track was a very complex one, having all kind of surfaces, earth, sand, grass. One single and one double ramp (I hate that double soooo much!!!! ) 2WDs really had some hard times on that double ramp. The main phenomenon was that we have landed on the nose.(I confess that I cannot jump yet. I will buy some spares the summer and will train myself for the jumps) Even the better drivers have had very few succesfull jumps. And even less those in the stock class with 20T brushed motors. I've decided not to jump at all, being affraid of breaking something, untill the last A final, when I said, that I don't have too much to loose so I've started jumping that double ramp. Nothing broke  Even the organisers said that it was a track for 4WD. (Actually after the race I have tried a B44......well.....I'm NOT giving up. I want to learn to drive a 2WD well. But...God how well that B44 drove.......!Almost full throttel in the curves and succesfull jumps :P BTW! I also have to buy a faster servo. Do you guys consider the exponential a necesary thing? Should I find a radio with exponential? In the straights I didn't really have steering issues. One issue was that before the race somebody broke my radios steering wheel and I had to race with a Kyosho Perfex. Maybe it was better than mine but I wasn't used with it, with how the DR worked. One qualification went weaker because of that DR. After all, I don't know what place I was, BUT, in the 2nd stock A-Final I was 4th and the other MadRat right in front of me 3rd :D Cheers guys! (did I say, short summary? :P ) |
Congrat elod !
I dont use expo on radio because I dont have it on my 2PL. |

Ok. Than lets ask it this way: what radio should I buy to be good and if possible, budget?
|
Futaba 2PL, graupner sport, ansmann 2.4Ghz...
Good radio, minimal set up, good price :) |
My 2 cents; Ive messed with exponential a little and have found the best thing is to learn throttle control. If you watch video of some of the pro drivers, you can see how well they control their throttle.....never applied too soon or too late. The better you are at it the more competitive you will be.
Try to practice often, for me I am not a "natural" so I need to run on of my cars 1 or 2 days a week. If I take a week or 2 off Im terrible come race day. As for jumping, throttle control is everything when it comes to the pitch or angle of your car in the air. As your car leaves the ramp, the wheels unload (spin faster) and this causes the car to go nose high. Therefore you need to back off the throttle as soon as you launch. If you back off too much or hit the brakes your car will nose dive very quickly. So with practise you'l learn where to put the throttle. Another thing with throttle control, if you have the wrong rear tires it will be much harder to learn this skill. The rear end will be loose and hard to control. |
Thanks notme! very usefull tips. Thing is, I know allready the theory of the jump. I've watched a lot of youtube vids earlier. I think, the problem wasn't then while being in the air. In the air I couldn't do anything, and I think it is because the car is only 2wd, so it didn't pull up its nose when on the throttle like a 4WD does. Also I am sure that the car wasn't nose heavy. I think, the solution would have been the following: not to try to control it in the air (which anyway didn't work at all) but to give it the right throttle before leaving the ramp, which theoretically would have been pushed down the rear and lifted up the nose.
I will have to buy several front lower arms and other front suspention spares and start practicing :) |
