Damper pistons
Hope someone can help, which damper pistons should i be using with 30/40wt oil, i'm running #1 pistons at the moment, i changed the oil when rebuilding the dampers with white O-rings, Now it seams to bounce a little to much.
|
do you mean the car bounces too much on the track? over/through bumps or off jumps?
30wt with #1's in the rear shouldn't be too far away but I know the Ghea pistons are popular - check http://www.p-dubracing.co.uk/ for availability. with #1's you might find that you are bottoming out off jumps and/or big bumps, so increasing the pack (by using a smaller holed piston, such as #2) might help. however, the #2 pistons will not normally go through rough stuff as well as #1 - thats where the Ghea pistons come in. |
Yes it seamed to have a rebound on rough sections but landed fine after big jumps,
|
do you know if anyone has tried the RPM dual rate type?
|
ghea number 2's in front, ghea number 1's in rear, simples
|
Alan if your thinking of getting some ghea piston, PM me we go halves on 2 packs. Works out a bit cheaper

I've got them in mine. They work well but I don't have enough track time on them to give a good honnest review of them yet.

thanks for the reply CODMAN, seems like you are reasonably pleased with them. Where did you get them from? I can only seem to find them on Feebay USA at the moment. Did you get light/medium or medium/heavy?
Cheers, Mark. |

I got them at my LHS, but I'm in Canada so no idea who would have them in the UK. I know Amain hobbies has them if you want to order...
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ight-Medium-12 I got the light-medium for my B4 and am running 27.5wt rear/ 32.5wt front Losi oil on a fairly bumpy track. They work well, but I need to tune the oil a bit more. Maybe go down 2.5wt all round... Cheers! Quote:

I'll order them, drop em off at work when they arrive, and next time i see you at the track we'll sort out the money, £16.50 Ok
|
Ordered!
|
OK, got a set ordered from JE Spares here in the UK. Which colour did you use? I think I will start with Losi 30 at front and 25 at back with silver springs all round. Its a B4 by the way.
Cheers Mate, Mark. |
I ordered Ghea pistons from P-Dub racing. Apparently there magic! as for colours i'll be using black at the back and the front? They only come in one colour. What have you ordered then?

You dont hang about Mr J  looking forward to them arriving

Looks like we have two threads going in one here lads!!!
Sorry if I messed it up. Jaxx, I ordered the RPM pistons, they come in different colours depending on the rating. I'll let you all know how I get on with them. If they dont work I'll try the Ghea ones, but for £6 they are worht a try. Cheers, Mark. |
Ahh right, I missed the link to them in a previous post! Now I see
|
So am I, Although I have just rebuilt my shocks as i bought some bleeder caps for them, now I'll have to do it again

I wasn't sure you were referring to thr RPMs either...
Each kit comes with 12 pistons (4 sets of each of 3 hole diameters). I set mine up with blue in the rear (supposed to be equivalent between AE #1 and #2 pistons) 27,5wt losi oil, and green front (supposed to be equivalent #2 AE pistons) with 32.5 wt Losi oil. It was a bit harsh on a fairly bumpy loose clay track. Tonight I'm rbuilding my shocks (new O-rings) and I think I'm going to but blue in front (1.5 AE equivalent) and white in back(equivalent AE#1). And keep the same oil weights... Or keep the same pistons and chane out the oil for 2.5wt lighter all round... I,ll see... Quote:

Woo Hoo!!! my first two page thread on oople  althought it did get a little confusing in the middle there
|
It was only confusing because i was involved :P
|
That goes without saying :p
BTW look at the club overal points  two points behind you :woot: |
I find Losi orange pistons work well on the back of my B44, they go straight in and it's transformed the way the car goes over the bumps....
Thought i'd share this  Mike P. |
what weight oil do you run with the orange pistons?
|
I either use associated 25wt & 30wt oil dependant on the track.

facing down - this speeds the return.
|
ghea number 2's in front, ghea number 1's in rear and associated 25wt rear & 30wt front oil
What colour springs would work best with this set up on a grass slightly bumpy track? also how do you set the rebound on the shocks if need be? Cheers for your help  |
Anybody know if any Losi pistons sit between Assoc #1 and #2's in terms of 'pack'? I'm finding #1's are ok in the back but slap on landing after jumps, #2's not so hot on small bumps. Where do the losi orange sit?
Cheers. |
I've got some RPM dual pistons and after checked the holes the RPM whites have a massive hole compared to associated no 1's even though they claim they are the same.
I'm going to try the yellow pistols in the front with 40wt oil as the holes are the same size as Associated no2 holes. In the rear I'm going to use blues with 25wt or 30wt as the holes are slightly smaller than Associated 1's. In theory you can run heavier damping because of the faster rebound. I will let everyone know what they are like after the NE Teeside Regional. |

Blues in the back with 30wt and Yellows up front with 45wt. This setup also works quite well indoor too. |
