Mid South 4wd at Swindon this weekend

Just a quick reminder to all that the Mid South Region 4wd Round is on at Swindon RCMCC this weekend. With the euros on there's a few big names out, so there'll be some big points on offer this weekend!!

Anyone with any queries on how tho get there, directions are available on www.swindonmodelcarclub.co.uk

Cheers

Mike

Mike
how's the weather looking down there? are you still going ahead? I better bring some wellies!!

Bathy 20-07-2007 09:50 AM

I guess its going to be muddy Sunday, maybe it's best I don't clean the BX from Oz and hope it lasts the day :p

No point cleaning it up twice in a week, can someone local post up a recent picture of the track for me please? ta

jim76 20-07-2007 10:37 AM

Hi David
i don't have any pics but it is fairly flat glass with a few wooden jumps. Some of the grass sections may be a bit bare though, depends how it's regrown about the last meeting

GRIFF55 20-07-2007 12:05 PM

Whats the forcast for your area, as i am thinking of traveling up fron south west wales? Also what time is signing on etc?
Cheers

jim76 20-07-2007 12:50 PM

WET!!
booking in is usually 8-9am. but you can prebook for a discount at modelcarclub.co.uk - go to the regional thread and look at the race dates for the online booking link

big fat fish 20-07-2007 06:15 PM

it's ok griff, you've already let me know, so you ok on your booking in fee.

Well track was laid last night, mowed etc....

And it's pee'd down all day, but we are going ahead as planned. racers from last year will know we don't let a bit of mud and rain put us off. we have found though that the track drains well, and doesn't get muddy as such, it jut gets wet and greasy.

jim76 20-07-2007 08:29 PM

nice one Mike.
Is the pitting area any bigger this time? I may have to put the tent up!!

The weather will have to go some to equal the mud bath that was last years race! It was fun keeping track of your car, is it that brown one, or that brown one over there?!!!

GRIFF55 20-07-2007 09:00 PM

Is there a trackside shop?

jim76 20-07-2007 09:55 PM

there will be a few bits if John Cockill is going, but he may be at the Euros.

alrg500 20-07-2007 10:35 PM

Neither Dan or Joe are currently booked in so I suspect they are at the Euro's.

Swiss 20-07-2007 10:44 PM

Dan and Jo are deffo not at the Euro's.... After our road trip to Vienna last year, I think we thought a year off was in order! Last I heard John wasn't going to be there......, (At Swindon that is). I think the 2 regionals weekends and then off to Southport for a w/klend was a bit too much.

modelimages 21-07-2007 06:14 AM

we are not at the euro's and may be there tomorrow depending on the latest forecast, to be honest national, regional, regional, national four weekends running is getting a bit much. can i suggest two day events next year to at least give a couple of free weekends
john

Southwell 21-07-2007 09:08 AM

It's hot today, hope its like this tomo!

GRIFF55 21-07-2007 09:17 AM

It's pouring with rain here, hope its going away from swindon:o

Gaz_Stanton 21-07-2007 10:12 AM

Bristol has been dry all morning but there are stormy looking grey clouds whichever way you look. :(
Once again the forecast sites don't have a clue what's happening. :wtf:

Southwell 21-07-2007 10:54 AM

Ok, NOW it's raining :D

big fat fish 21-07-2007 05:09 PM

MEETING IS STILL ON!!!

We had 2 light showers and that's it today, been sunny this morning, and some blue sky about now.

Please be sensible though, you know it's going to rain at some point, and the track will be slippy, so please equip yourselves suitably to cope.

Pitting area is same as last time but the field has been mowed rather than strimmed. strangely the pitting area is much drier than the track

No shop to my knowledge unless modelimages come along.

Some pics of the track taken this evening

The last pic looks worse than it is though.....

big fat fish 21-07-2007 05:18 PM

The met office site predicts light rain with light winds (5-10 mph) so fingers crossed they're right..........

Southwell 21-07-2007 05:33 PM

Good good, can't wait to get some more running in before s'port nat. Can't be much wetter than osfest!

GRIFF55 22-07-2007 06:57 PM

Just want to say a BIG thanks to all the swindon crew for doing a great job on the track today!! Really good meeting even if it wasn't my best:(

Thanks All !!

(OOOOOHH £10 to get back over that bloody bridge:D ).

big fat fish 22-07-2007 07:58 PM

Cheers, Griff.

The turn-out wasn't too great, but then I can't blame that on anything but weather. Admit I'd struggle to get up and drive 2-3 hours to potentially have a wet muddy meeting. But credit where it's due, I would like to extend thanks from the club to all that attended for keeping faith that it wouldn't get called off, and hopefully we'll be doing it all again next year.

We did what we could to ensure the meeting went ahead bearing in mind that the Silverstone Regional was delayed to next week. Including sucking 700 litres of water out of the track this morning. After some driving advice from some half decent drivers i won the C from 6th, so was quite pleased with that.

Anyways results will be posted ASAP, but top 3 was Greg Spicer, Simon Chambers and Keith Robertson.

neiloliver 22-07-2007 08:33 PM

700 litres! how did you do that? i take it the track was no where near as bad as on those photo's then?

N

jim76 22-07-2007 09:24 PM

yeah , cheers Mike, another well run meeting. (and the bugers were ace!)

The track was a similar state to last year, but with out the additional misery of it actually raining (ok, lashing down is closer!) while on the rostrum or marchalling!!

see you at the "new" track next year. Snow anyone?!?

GRIFF55 22-07-2007 09:35 PM

i think you mean burgers!!:D
Niel, the track was like the pics, but when i got there they were sweeping, hoovering and anything else to get rid of water. Cracking job! Keith worked so hard that he ripped his trousers:D :D

I'll second that! Great job to get the track raceable and a good days racing. I would've preferred to have been able to join in the finals but was a good day's setup work.

New Losi 23-07-2007 07:33 AM

Great days racing, well done to all that out in the time an effort to get the track up and running, I know you were all really busy Saturday only to have to do it all again Sunday morning before we could race.

Enjoyed the "Fun" finals, it was a good idea !

Great work, see you next year !
