How about a British GP?

Hey Guys,
Just got back from the Belgium GP and loved it, so now I am wondering about if there is enough support for a British GP?

I know Southport held a British GP in the days gone by, but I beleive this to be too far for any Europeans to travel to. Im thinking of an event to attract plenty of Europeans aswell as brits.

Now then: Personally id like it to be run much like the Belgium GP, i.e. camping open all week, practice open to all - no restriction, no tire restrictions, 4 rounds of qual and 3 leg finals for all, 2wd Sat, 4wd Sun, presentation in the evening...

Then since we won't have the entertainment of a park festival like the Belgium GP, how about some sort of evening (flood lit) relay race, or some none racing related entertainment - whats possible? (Anything but Jonesy singing "Fly on the wings of Love" please!)

Then finally venues:
CML
EPR
Kiddy

If the track is one which has alternatives, then the use of a single layout for the whole time is something I would be infavour of.

Id also like this to me tagged on to the following/preceeding weekend to the Belgium GP, and then its likely we'll have some drivers from the states too wanting to do both.

Lets get ball rolling with ideas & all in favour hold a hand up.....

NeilD 10-07-2007 07:20 PM

In favour not sure where we could hold it?

LEGEND 10-07-2007 07:23 PM

I really like the idea of a British GP, as it would attract more people from Britian to go aswell as Europeans. It would also let them have a chance to race in British weather. And i really think that many people would agree with me, it may be a bit far for some people, but it would give them a chance to race on our turf.:)

MattW 10-07-2007 07:41 PM

Think EPO (Eden Park) held a full on "EFRA British GP" back in the day (or has my memory gone!!).

Anyway, yeah be a good idea. No way to having it a week either side ot the belgian race though, as there is no way i'd personally want to (or be able to) spend that amount of time preparing and recing for 2 big races so close to each other.

Definatly would like the idea of a British GP. Just thinking what do people think of the idea of running at a full size motorsport track????? Don't quite know how feasable it would be tho? If it was a meeting like the BTCC then we would get a decent crowd watching too???? Just a thought but definatly would like the general idea :p

it would have to be held at kidderminster as this is the best uk track;)

cml raceway will b lookin into this......

Chrislong 10-07-2007 07:52 PM

Andy, good idea. Crowds of public (non rc racers) are important to gain new racers, so I like that.... but one important factor is that the track must not have a wear factor. Southport has grass and lasts a national, but the GP would destroy it and would become unraceable, same with a flat grass track. So it needs to be either an astro track or a..... tarmac track... anyway, something with no wear factor to worry about.

It'd need a rule on entry, perhaps a % allocation to each EC country for the first 1-2 weeks to allow word to spread, and prevent us Brits hogging every entry within the first 12hours. (likely if not thought about)

Matt, perhaps 2weeks? So to have a 1 week gap before the start of the open practice at the next venue?

good on ya pidge go for it bout time we had the gp back ,your gaf is a sweet track:D

_JP_ 10-07-2007 08:02 PM

Back in the day Stafford ran one or more?, I never raced at it but pitted for a few that did, it would have to be well funded and a have a nice big undercover pit area :)

andy reeves 10-07-2007 08:13 PM

Lee good luck if you do go ahead with it. I have only been up to your track once and really enjoyed the track.

burgie 10-07-2007 08:36 PM

i do believe that the BRCA are looking into hosting a British GP....

the track would need to be close to hotels, with loads of parking/camping space too - don't forget how much room 1 national event takes up.

tony6187 10-07-2007 08:43 PM

i would be definitely interested in traveling over from ireland for the event:cool: ...was over in southport for one there many moons ago and loved ithttp://www.oople.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

Slimboyfat 10-07-2007 08:43 PM

was so gutted i had to bail on the Belguim GP last minute but this would be awesome if it could be organised!

Kiddy or CML for me...cant say i've tried Lee's place...yet but looks good and great posibilities.

xx4-nutter 10-07-2007 09:02 PM

with CML being rather hilly jumps like across the water in america would a xxx4 be cool on there cos they seem popular across there still dont they ? :)

k£v!n 10-07-2007 09:04 PM

I really like the idea, you've got my thumbs up!

David Church 10-07-2007 10:02 PM

EPR is the closest track to the contenent, about 75 miles, from Dover, it also has a surface that would remain constant, unless it rains, haha, but then most astro tracks turn to slime, although EPR is known to have better grip in the rain!!! Loads of room for camping, oh and a pub/club on site!!!
Beer festival anyone???

matt 10-07-2007 10:11 PM

Might be a silly question but would you have to have a good F rating to get into a british GP if it gets the thumbs up:confused:

_JP_ 10-07-2007 10:14 PM

DC now your talking beer and racing :), normal national then!

Chrislong 10-07-2007 10:22 PM

BRCA hosting event:

PRO's...
Well ran event (to perfection)

CON's...
Id expect too many rules, penalties, do's & don'ts. The GP should be super__relaxed such as the Belgium GP.

Im not saying that Nationals/Finals aren't ace, what im saying is we need something very different we can all go away and call a holiday and mean it.

Christer Rasmussen 11-07-2007 06:47 AM

Just be sure to have a sufficient beer supply and team Denmark will be there.
We can’t drive but sure can drink a lot.
Next must be a Swedish GP they have all the pretty girls.

Lee Martin 11-07-2007 07:26 AM

hahaahhahaahahah

yes christer!!!!

loving tht!!!

well CML RW will be looking into it...and if anyones ever been to a party of mine....you know, i know how to run a party! lol

on the back of that! southport would be an amazing night out and pleasure park!

Spencer Mulcahy 11-07-2007 07:54 AM

The pleasure park isnt there anymore Lee :(

Lee Martin 11-07-2007 08:10 AM

u WAT!!!!

why the hell not?

Chrislong 11-07-2007 08:57 AM

A note, to correct my previous statement of "Relaxed rules"
-------------

The Belgian event was not an EFRA GP.
It was a Belgian International event. Hence the relaxed rules.

To host a country GP (British GP) you have to have an EFRA sanction and run to EFRA rules.

Spencer Mulcahy 11-07-2007 09:06 AM

They have pulled it all down but I think there is a new one being built. The traumatizer has gone to Blackpool.:)

trekkerkk 11-07-2007 09:15 AM

i remember racing at the british gp at eden park,
back in the day(to long ago to remember)
it was great fun and relaxed,
two different tracks rostrum in the middle i think,
memorys a bit blurred after that,
i know i really enjoyed it though,

The last couple of years the Belgium GP has been sort of a mix, it have been on the official EFRA race Calendar but not require an EFRA license.
And I think it have been mentioned in the EFRA meetings this year as well but is not on the calendar.
Almost never seen a car being disqualified.
I have attended the GP 6 times during the last 7 years.

No, even when it had been acccording to EFRA the years before it was as easy-going as it was last weekend. It´s about attitude and so a British GP could be just as nice as the Belgian, no matter whether EFRAesque or not.

super__dan 11-07-2007 12:40 PM

So if called the British PG it doesn't have to be EFRA affiliated? ;)

trekkerkk 11-07-2007 12:48 PM

no its tea affiliated lol:)

MR. 200 11-07-2007 01:24 PM

i will show up if you make a UK GP, there absolutly will be no GP anywere without DANES:cool:

wouter.z 11-07-2007 01:35 PM

Dont make it an efra GP, if its an efra GP then you need a efra license which some of us dont have including me.

Must say that a GP on that CML track would be very nice, if im correct its nearby london so not that far away for us europeans and the track looks nice.

trekkerkk 11-07-2007 01:38 PM

eden parks closer:)

Lee 11-07-2007 01:58 PM
