Wraps off the TRF 2WD

The wraps are finally off the new Tamiya TRF 2WD racing buggy that competed recently at the Yatabe international GP.

Details are scarce but the design isn't radically different from other 2WD competition buggies already in existance - though interestingly Tamiya didn't go with the current trend toward a mid-motor layout.

Check out the Tamiya TRF website for more details (Japanese):

Tis like a B4, but in gray scale :)

Richard Lowe 07-04-2010 02:05 PM

I know you can't tell from a picture, but apart from the extra hole on the tower the front end geomentry looks identical to the B4 :p

Answer-RC-Pete 07-04-2010 02:12 PM

Loving the old skool cells in there!

Still atleast they pictured it with a brushless in there...

ashleyb4 07-04-2010 02:15 PM

Yea its a b4. I preffer to look at it this way 8th Nitro grew into a huge class because loads of big manafactures started producing 8th buggy's tamiya AE losi etc now we have more and more company's producing 1/10th cars so should help the class as it did in 8th. Well done tamiya looks a good solid car might not be that ground breaking but its good.

Does it come with a legendary Tamiya "Warning - Hot motor" sticker, or a "Warning - moving parts" sticker anywhere?

Chrislong 07-04-2010 02:22 PM

Looks tidy. Love the Tamiya plugs "melt-down!".

Ought to do well, who's running this?

If it does I am so buying 1

coolcars782 07-04-2010 02:26 PM

Who would put those Tamiya plugs on there, melted within a couple seconds when running that brushless set - up

Is it made around the nihms? or is it weighted for lipos?

sosidge 07-04-2010 02:30 PM

B4 geometry, Tamiya quality - how can you go wrong?

coolcars782 07-04-2010 02:38 PM

I'm surpised they didnt do what durango have done with there dex210, by making it so you can have it midmotored or rear, by looking at the picture it is only rear motored

James 07-04-2010 02:47 PM

At the back of the rear wishbones there seems to be the same beefed up plastic as at the front of them for the arm shock mounting position  or they could just be 4 way reversible :eh?:

jimmy 07-04-2010 02:49 PM

TRF511 wishbones? so the holes are redundant here. That's my guess.

hashiriya 07-04-2010 03:43 PM

My TRF 416X uses 0 toe wishbones and the shock mounting holes are slightly offset so that you can find the "hole between holes" by turning the wishbone around. maybe its the same for this?

^^ Seperated at birth??

Scoobster 07-04-2010 04:07 PM

Chassis looks the same an X-Pro or Madrat even has the rear body mounts in the same place :eh?: but i guess it will cost a bit more than the Madrat :D

Still cool to see another 2wd on the market

DaveG28 07-04-2010 04:14 PM

Is there a part number or release date?

Thomas P 07-04-2010 04:19 PM

WOunder if "we" can use the rear and front Towa on the B4 :)?

DaveG28 07-04-2010 04:21 PM

The wishbones are 511 at the rear by the way, so those holes are probably redundant..

Flex is probably different to B4, as said by someone else looks more Madratish, diff webbing etc to B4 and diff front bulkhead mounts etc, plus still looks like centered motor?

Those front wishbones do look a straight b4 copy :woot:

coolcars782 07-04-2010 04:27 PM

I wouldnt say the wishbones are a copy as the tamiya's ones are curved.

DaveG28 07-04-2010 04:30 PM

Your quite right, my mistake!

DCM 07-04-2010 04:38 PM

I think you will find, the pickup points will be the same, just metric and not imperial, and they have been beefed up in a Tamiya sort of way.

Bare in mind that the exchange rate changes

ralphee 07-04-2010 04:55 PM

Does look like the motor is more centred to a B4. I like it, simple, based on a proven design, should do what it say's on the tin, just with that Tamiya "feel" in the box.
I agree, it should have the Tamiya warning stickers, they are far too priceless to omit

Where are you getting this stuff?? The only English language stuff I found was about more details for May hobby show and it being down as "tentative" for being at the show?

My next car too Qatmix

jaxx 07-04-2010 06:18 PM

i used the link jimmy put up to the japanese TRF site, Then I copy and paste info that is around the image i wan't. then i use google babelfish to translate it for me. I do this with all japanese sites i look at.

Albertini 07-04-2010 06:27 PM

Have a look in the tamiya section on here, there's a couple of translations in the trf 2wd thread, one of which is spot on.:) ( well I guess it is, not knowing any japanese myself.)

With the B4, and TRF car side by side, you can see they have looked at the B4, and said..hmmm what needs sorting out, improving, tweaking and put that lot in the box! Nice work, I am liking it

Still gonna stick with my B4 though!

"Seperated at birth?? "

Are you guys serious? Usually you can spot if a screw is new...;)'

Btw, what difference is there between the B4, RB5 and Losi XXX-CR?

Alfonzo 07-04-2010 07:52 PM

Wow. How..mm..original.

Imitation being the most sincere form of flattery, I guess the guys that designed the B4 can be chuffed :D

farmboy 07-04-2010 08:00 PM

Is it me or does the decal on the side of the wing say "Spazstix"?
