Thomas,
I'm a bit worried about the motor heat issues I keep reading about on the SC18 forums (rctech.net) but... I think I'll be getting one anyway. Haha.

Thomas P 02-04-2010 08:23 AM

Sim, you can calm down, the heat issiue, is the stock XXX motor. I have talked a lot to a guy in the states and he use a Novak, and it is absolutly no problem. Hoe il get mine soon =)

The "motor heat issue" so many seem to be having appears to be directly as a result of trying to get away with running a belt-driven car (with its higher drag) off that puny stock motor, along with not taking the time to go through the build and making sure everything turns smoothly and the gearmesh is good....all the guys that have dropped in a BL system (regardless of whether it's a 20mm or 28mm motor) seem to have no troubles at all.

sim 15-04-2010 12:34 PM

Hmm, might need to get a Mongoose. My 5200kv hobbywing with 18A esc was getting hot even in the old RC18B. Any other recommendations besides the Mongoose? I'd prefer something smaller if I could get away with it.

watfordtrackwarrior 09-05-2010 12:44 AM

Looks all nice and clean so far Thomas, and I see a couple of CF towers. Can't wait for the rest of your build.

Don't know why you're putting the 8.5 in there. :eh?: I've got a 10.5 in mine and it's plenty enough juice, might even put the 13.5 in it, and the viable pinion opions aren't as limited.

Thomas P 13-05-2010 04:20 AM

Im running the car on our greenhill 1/10th astro is perfect.

This is the track...i used to run the 10.5, but i miss that extra..

Thomas P 13-05-2010 12:10 PM

OK Thomas, looking forward to hearing your thoughts once you've run yours. :D

sldmodels 13-05-2010 04:08 PM

You know, and I've been thinking this for a while, the original rc18 buggy bodyshell would look amazing with some tweaks to look like an original Battlestar Galactica Viper, in fact the engine could be cut-outs for air vents.

Looks like the maiden voyage went well, it runs , now it's time for some proper rear tires (bowties) - and/or seeing how it gets along on the track.

Thomas P 16-05-2010 04:52 PM

Well i cant see any specefic between the ft things..but i have not looked so close..
So i have 12 packs with this car and there is nothing like it...it is the best, but other hand i did find a descent setup :D.
It handles like a dream in the air, it take bumps sick good..
sadly i built the rear diff not so good, so it broke, but i fixed it and it is rock solid...
Cant see any reason for the CF chassi but Pimping ya car...the chassi is real stiff, and it works real good..
after 10 min of hard motor is app 80 celsius, esc app 55...
Broken outdrive..fixed now..i love the gear ones..

So me and my son went to the track..he used he´s new TEK18B :D..little rusty, but some traingin..

I managed to get 8 packs...the weather was boiling hot... motor temp after 12-15 min of running around 85-95 celsius...way to hot, esc 65...went down from 14T to 13T piniong, still a missile...little lower temps...still hot.

The car works ace, no sign of diff troubble..

ace028 19-05-2010 11:35 PM

SWEET! Your builds are always soo cool! I want one now lol! Looks much better then the original.

Thomas P 20-05-2010 04:53 AM

Thanks mate :D...doing my best.

Im using the Futaba 3155, but mounted the micro.micro Futaba 3156, smaller, same spec on torque, but little faster (digi, metal,bb). If i am lucky, my astro turf tires will arrive today :D

Futba 3155

Thomas how did you solder new wires to the Mongoose motor? Thanks

Thomas P 20-05-2010 05:17 PM

Hi J, i have cut them only 2-2.5mm from rear end of can..and just taken of the protection yellow, orange and blu silicon"cable..so only the cables are out, as short solder tabs..so i can se the collor, still "inside" the holes where the cables are in..

not sure if it can be seen here?

well done thomas. I did that same thing to mine a long time ago, as it's basically "straight-wiring" the motor ... and so as to eliminate the extra 9 connections of the motor bullet plugs that have a propensity for failure, and poor connections which hinder operation and performance

hide 20-05-2010 08:33 PM

Ah so that's how you did it. Look great. I ought to do it but I haven't had any issues yet/

Thomas P 21-05-2010 04:27 AM

J, i have no issiues with the old cables at all, i do nuót just lie that concept..i want to solder my own :)

Thomas P 21-05-2010 09:42 AM

Tapered pistons for 3racing shocks..

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/DSC_0476.jpg

Thomas P 22-05-2010 02:42 PM

6 packs today...the tires where SICK grippy...need to cut them...

Tapered pistons, i changed back, cus i used wrong oil, and they were not identical drilled as the other i use...But there is not much to say, this car, is a mean one, it is fast and it takes most of the bad bumps on our big track...

Thomas P 26-05-2010 07:58 PM
