water water everywhere!

Well, what a night.

Hows the flooding where everyone is?

Its not to bad where I am, as we live on top of a hill, but all around is flooded and traffic is chaos.

Anyone got any pics of how bad it is near them?

emzy 26-06-2007 11:28 AM

It hardly rained at all here last night.... was just pretty windy!

Chequered Flag Racing 26-06-2007 11:29 AM

What flooding :wtf:

not in Teesside @ least

telboy 26-06-2007 11:45 AM

A friend sent me this picky as he was on his way to work.

Its about 1 mile away from my house.

emzy 26-06-2007 11:46 AM

BLOODY HELL.

That's the good thing about being literally a minute's walk from the sea - if I'm flooded, you KNOW we're in trouble.

Emzy,

Maybe we don't get it 'Up North' as we're higher up the country :) and water always runs downhill to find the lowest level ie 'The South' :D :D :D

I'll be eating my own words in a few days I bet :(

Southwell 26-06-2007 11:54 AM

No problems here south of London, bit of rain, but no flooding.

losidan 26-06-2007 11:58 AM

i've got a new swimming pool in my cellar.......smells lovely too

dave g 26-06-2007 12:03 PM

not too bad but the back garden was about 50% flooded out under about 6-8 inches of water at 11 oclock last night..im glad we have a raised pond as the fish would have been swimming out of the pond :)

unfortunately our village is quite low down and our house is at the low end, when we had the last bad rain the drain covers in the street had blown off and water was coming out of them at about 3 foot high !!

mark christopher 26-06-2007 02:48 PM

just a warning to you all, i work in a ford dealership and from non yesaterday we now have over 10 cars all wanting engines from drivers taking em through water. lots of cars have thier air intake pipe alot lower than the air box and they suck in the water, hydrolic and then you need a new one

Northy 26-06-2007 02:55 PM

I saw a dead 306 that I think had done that. I've heard they do it.
Whats the intake on the Focus like?

G

Chrislong 26-06-2007 03:04 PM

On the Focus is there any other intake other than the one going over the top of the front panel when you open up the bonnet? Or is each model (I.e. CL, LX, Zetec, ST170) of Focus Mk1&2 different.

I wouldn't risk driving through water any deaper than about 6 inches.

Ok, so for example - car parked up and under water, when it eventually drains is it advised to turn the engine over with the spark plugs out?

dave g 26-06-2007 03:31 PM

if you try to start it with the plugs in and it draws water in,it will as mark says hydrolock, theres a good chance of it then bending/stressing the internals of the engine.

I've got a 1999 focus and drove through about a foot of water yesterday morning to take my daughter to school, and evrything was fine.

My daughter thought it was hillarious.:)

Where is the air intake on the focus mark?

Oscar 26-06-2007 08:56 PM

At over 1200ft above sea level, the day i get flooded your all doomed:D:D

Don't tempt fate John, water could burst into your house via a dodgy pipe.

telboy 26-06-2007 09:09 PM

God help us all if it happens!!:eh?:

:D

good advise if you have to go deaper slow and kep the bow wave in front of you dont overtake it!!

err if its been in water phone your insurance/recovery and before the ho2 gets into the engine the elictrics will be soaked and it will be a write off

air con is a sealed unit?? the air for the cabin blower comes in from under the pasenger pollen filter housing (under the pass wiper) (if you get wet on passenger floor its normally that cover there is a modified one)

MK1 MK2 is where chris says (bonnet slam pannel) there are small variations on the ST170 however the trunking is not seal and wil draw water in petrol are less prone to diesels but you could pos get away with 2 feet BUT id not risk it myself terry was near my limit.
latest focus are worse and drop under the batter left fog lamp area!

langers 26-06-2007 09:42 PM

there is a drain on the heater box about 12 to 15 inches from the ground which can allow water into cabin on the focus

air con drain, if it hits that its in your door seals and allready in the car givin you wet feet!

Aaaaah, you thought wrong :P :D

Personally I wouldn't risk it. We have a slush drain or whatever its called near us, and it floods the main road every so often and even though it may be no more than 3-4 inches deep down the middle of the road, I do a 3point turn on the dry road and go a different way around.

if you get caught, unlucky and I sympathise as I love cars (especially Focus's right now), but with choice - avoid it.

mark christopher 26-06-2007 09:57 PM

just round back of my work
