Atomic Carbon CR2 takes Benelux Championship win!
This weekend Wouter Wijnen, Steven Verelst and I used the CR2 for the first time in a National (we have a combined series of Belgian and Dutch drivers) @ Charleroi, the first National of the year.
Not only did Wouter take TQ, all 3 of us made the A final, and the infamous Willy from Kampenhout qualified 20th out of 47 drivers (became 16th after the finals). Wouter took a very deserving win by taking 2 out of 3 qualifiers, something he would repeat during the finals to take home victory for Atomic Carbon. With us using the CR2 and Freud the S2, 40% of the A final was Atomic Carbon  (Wouter 1, Steven 6, Jorg 7, Freud 10) Results: http://www.myrcm.ch/be/bbrc/07032010...WT2/index.html |
Hmm problem getting the pictures in ;)

Well done!
Now we need setups  |
Front:
Blue spring, 30wt, black piston, 2mm limiters => tower #1, wishbone #2 -1,5° camber, no lead or brass bulkhead, 1 washer added under steering ball stud (adds Ackermann) Camber links 2-A, 2 washers* Rear: Red spring, 25wt, black piston, 0mm limiters (AE rod ends, 1 turn unscrewed) => tower #2, wishbone #2 -2° camber, 1° anti-squat, camber links 2-B, 3 washers Rudebits brass plate, 70gr lead under lipo (rear half of lipo slot filled with lead), 30gr extra lead around motor. Long wheelbase Wing: low and to the front Gearing: 8,5T on 25/78 on new motor plate *Wouter used 3 washers, Steven none, I used 2, adjust to your own liking :) Tyres: front Schumacher Stagger Rib, rear Schumacher Mini Spike Yellow, the team used Mr.O and KWF inserts, used Losi ones are good too (the softer inserts made the car easier to drive). |
OK, thanks. I have a few questions if you don't mind :)

Also, why the AE rod ends? More droop? Quote:
Thanks! |

AE rod ends indeed give more droop. What do you mean with rear arms? Wheelbase was set to long. Personally I also made a mod to the front hubs. I dremel off some material so I can mount them more forward. So in fact I have a wheelbase adjustment in the front. Making the wheelbase longer in the front results in less wheelie effect, keeps the front flatter, adds stability. In fact you are making wheelbase longer, and at the same time you get more weight % on the rear wheels. Like it a lot :-D Losi is short compared to B4, and very short compared to X6, so a little more length doesn't hurt. |

You secretly admire the cr2, that's why!
Ok, I think I have arms mounted in the standard way... |

So thanks to both :) |
Lol, it's important as it makes a difference to driveshaft angle as well
|
So, what is the standard way of mounting those arms? Shorter or longer WB?
|
I guess short otherwise the shafts will point towards the rear which isn't good.
But simply check the CR manual and you know which way around you have to mount them. |
I just checked the online Cr manual, it says that 1 dot is for the left and 2 dots is for the right side. So this is the long setup.
I wondered why my car was at the 65/35 weight split without any lead weight, but I mounted the arms backwards, with the shorter wheelbase, more weight being on the rear. Well, another thing to try. |
Nice one guys!! good result for the atomic team!!! Just gota get freud onto a cr2 now;)

Héhé Andy Tomorow My CR2 SE in my home :wub
Just Wanted a XXXCR New in box  |
Who's racing the Belgian GP this year? Can we fill the A with 10 AC cars??
|
I will be here with the mighty CR2, just not on the A final :D
|
dude, aim high!
|
I'll have TQ please.

Another way to put it would be to say the A final was 60% X-Factory :p Or, in yet another way: 0% rear-motored :D |
Or another way: 80% of all AC cars made the A.
|
See it this way: 80% of the drivers was driving the X-6, 10% was driving the CR2/S2. So this means 15% of the X-6 cars made the A final, while AC had 80% of their cars in the A :p
Flippo beat me to it :) |
OK, now make the same calculation counting only non-sponsored drivers...
I think this is called 'a pissing match' :D |
man ga nog wa verder stinken en blijft uit ons forum :-)
|
Dikke tetten!
Anyone here attended enough Belgium GPs to understand what Wouter said? :) |

Last weekend we had the second national of the year, on the great Kampenhout track. Conditions were different from the past few years as it was very dusty (more than 3 weeks without rain, have you Brits ever had that?:)). This made for 1 particular set-up change: mini spikes up front instead of the usual Stagger Rib.
Wouter TQ'ed 2 rounds (out of 3) so had first place on the grid. Steven qualified 4th, his best qualifiying result so far. And I had to start from 8th. The finals were over the moment they started: Wouter dominated each final, making very clean and fast runs. Steven ended up 8th after some radio problems and I was 5th, so a great weekend for the CR2, with 3 cars in the A and of course TQ + win. Here is the set-up, there are a few differences between our set-ups due to personal preferences: Front: Green spring, 35wt, #56 piston, 2mm limiters => tower #2, arm middle Camber links 3-B (1 washer)*, -1,5° camber 20gr of lead in nose, front wing Extended wheelbase (1,5mm) + 1mm washer under horizontal steering ball stud. Mini Spike Yellow, inner and outer row cut off. Ride height 21,5mm Rear: Pink spring, 30wt, #56 piston**, 0mm limiters => tower #2, arm inside Camber links 6-B, -2° camber, 1° anti-squat Wheelbase long, wing low and to the front (medium gurney) 70gr under battery pack (rear half of battery slot filled with lead), Rudebits plate + 10gr. XXX rear end with MF2 hubs, new flex link system (no brass block) Mini Spike Yellow, outer row cut off, Losi insert*** Ride height 21,5mm Gearing: 25/78 on 8,5T motor Grip level: 7 (1 very low, 10 very high) *Wouter used 2-A and 2 washers, choose to your own liking :) **Wouter had #57 piston and 25wt oil ***Wouter had the KWF insert in them, Losi is bit harder. The car was fantastic and did very well on the dusty astroturf. Those who will use the CR2 during the Belgian GP can start with this set-up. |

In Belgium Championship the CR2 took 3 of the top 5 spots (1 Wouter, 4 Steven, 5 me) and 4 of the top 10 spots (John Debacquer). The car has been fantastic on every track!
Wouter managed to win 4 out of 6 nationals with the CR2 this season, and become 2nd at the other two. Yesterday we had a grass national, on a very rutted grass track that turned into a sand/grass mix after a few heats. Lots of bumps in the track, here is my set-up: Front: Green spring, 30wt, #56 GHEA/chamfered piston, no limiters, rod ends unscrewed 1 turn => tower #2, wishbone #3 (outer), long VLA Camber links 2-A (1 washer), -1° camber Long wheelbase mod, 25gr in front of servo and in nose, 20gr behind servo Schumacher Mini Spike Yellow, outer row trimmed, inner row 50% trimmed Ride height 25mm Rear: Pink spring, 30wt, #56 GHEA/chamfered piston, no limiters => tower #2, wishbone #1 (standard inner hole), XXX rear end Camber link 7-B (no washers), -1,5° camber, long VLA Long wheelbase, 1° antisquat, wing front and low (full gurney) 90gr under lipo Schumacher Mini Spike Yellow, outer row trimmed 50% Ride height 24.5mm Total weight 1675gr Motor: Alien Power 8,5T with 25/78 gearing (idler on top) ESC: Speed Passion GT2.1 Prostock Servo: low profile The rear long VLA was very good through the rough sections of the track. If the track is a bit smoother, I always use short VLA. |
