Chris

Touring or offroad?

cmgreen 04-03-2010 10:34 AM

If its offroad i would advise a Associated B44, easy to set up and parts a quite cheap.

Bungleaio 04-03-2010 10:37 AM

Durango all the way. The best 4wd I've ever had, the initial cost is a bit high but the spares are very reasonable

Chris Griffiths 04-03-2010 10:43 AM

Sorry guys off rd!!! Ive heard mixed things of the Durango, people build them fine and there wrong, people build them wrong thats why they go wrong and that people have no probs atall. all very confusing!!!

SX's are popular at the club, Chris but you can always get an X11 too if stickpacks are a priority....

X11 looks awsome i think! Its not a priority ive just bought 4 SMC 50c lipos so would be ideal

markwilliamson2001 04-03-2010 11:46 AM

If sticks are the priority, then I would go for the Cat SX 2. Seems a nice piece of kit, and very popular, alongside the B44 at club level. Can't really go wrong I reckon.

TonyM 04-03-2010 12:10 PM

Chris - there are plenty of B44's used at the club so always spares available. Also, the B44 has some common parts with your X6>2 e.g. slipper, parts of the diff, hubs and bearings etc.

I have a spare you can try out this weekend if you wish - all set up for Formby - see how it feels.

Migs 04-03-2010 12:20 PM

Tamiya DB01R, enclosed drivetrain, stick lipo, great handling car

Couldn`t agree more!

I`d go with Migs on this one!

DB01R

Lots of options so far!!!

Love tamiya but parts do my head in.

Im very interested in the X11? Looks awsome!

Chris

slow coach 04-03-2010 12:55 PM

does the B44 take stick packs or the Durango for that matter??

was also looking for a stick Lipo car and its a narrow field, as mentioned the Cat SX, Original ZX5, Pred X11, Tamiya DB01R not sure if i would bother with the cheap version, LRP S10 Blast and Losi XX4 with some mods, Im actually tempted to give the LRP a go for the main reason if i dont like it im not out of pocket loads.

Thanks Chris, it is an awesome car. for more info please visit www.teamxtreme.co.uk

There is a Lipo chassis available too! Let me know if you need any more info.

Have a nice day!

I'd get a B44 tbh. parts are easy and cheap enough to get and you can pick them up cheaply. also due to popularity if you break it and you're stuck it's likely someone will have a spare.

all the cat SX's at our club seem to break diff bolts regularly

durango's are expensive and see to be breaking a lot lately

Chris

Pred parts are not the easiest to get hold of either but they are an awsome looking car and very quick when you get it right.

Just out of interest why have you got 4 packs of lipo's?

mikeyscott 04-03-2010 04:04 PM

Cat SX or Cat SX2 when it arrives. Takes stick LIPOs and it has a good support around the UK at various clubs.

Just build it correctly then, and you'll have the best 4wd car money can buy;)

I was doing TC at the time and the plan was to do lots of practise at the track so didnt want to be waiting around for 30-40 mins waiting for a charge etc, plus got a good deal

I thought they would be ok to get from team xtreme? somthing else to look into i suppose

Ben.G 04-03-2010 04:33 PM

Cyber 10b

bigred5765 04-03-2010 04:45 PM

another vote for cat sx or sx2

paulc 04-03-2010 04:47 PM

if your looking at getting a cat i check to see if your lipo's fit first (borrow someones ) if they are big (high) lipos then they may catch on the centre belt

good car though

Battle_axe 04-03-2010 04:58 PM

i have a losi xxx4 up for sale

Danny11 04-03-2010 05:30 PM

I'd go for a b44 as they are very good and they wont brake easily! also it is easy to get parts and good deals as there are usually a fair amount at clubs

Rich D 04-03-2010 05:43 PM

Hi Chris

Good advice about the Lipo height/CAT SX. Also check the length too. If you are talking about the black SMC 50C stick lipos then they do fit into the SX height wise but you have to dremel a little material from the front bulkhead to get them in length ways. I know this because i did one for a lad at our club.

I have owned the B44 and the CAT SX. In terms of reliability and handling i did`nt find much between them. I do find the CAT to jump a little better for my style of driving ( flies flatter through the air for me )
Theres clearly nothing wrong with the B44 though as Neil and Bradders prove over and over each round at Worksop !

As for breakages on the SX, the only achillies heel are the front 3mm bolts that fix the wishbone hangers to the lower diff housing. They bend pretty easily which stiffens up the front end. its easy to spot. Sometimes the hinge pin might be ever so slightly bent too as a result. This looks to of been cured with the SX2 as they are now utilising 4mm bolts for strength and plastic hangers which should save the hinge pins bending.

Other than these things, i have found mine to be pretty reliable. Some people bend the alloy wishbone hangers on the first SX but you have to hit them pretty hard to do this. Im still on my original set. I do however only run indoors as im a TC racer during the summer

Hope this helps

PS - what other goodies have you got lurking in the queue for the classifieds  ;)

spud31 04-03-2010 05:48 PM

Cyber 10b its superb great to drive jumps well, strong just needs slipper, but indoors on polished wood i ran bone stock.

Chris Griffiths 04-03-2010 05:50 PM

Haha don't know yet! I'll have to have a look. Think I'm going to keep all my much more legend stuff tho it's awsome!!!

I'm still liking the look of the pred x11, but cat sx2 sounds good!!!

Chris

chris im going to say this how i see it

1/ your not short of cash
2/ your a newbie to bulding running off road ( though you have exerience with 8th offroad and diffs)
3/ you like to have the best (even tho you dont keep em long :p )

you have a top line and one of the most expensive 2wd cars.

my recomendation fisrt would be to see whats popular and goes well

last worksop, 6 durangos in the A
trackside shop has spares for durango and cat
bally has spares for durango and cat

i have seen many cats break and my team mate ( average driver) can break it lots
i dont see many x11 on tracks or at worksop or spares at the track shop or bally's
(remember ALL car break)

me (average driver) kick the living crap out of my durango and have fail to finish two runs ( pin on cvd (before i built em as dave G tip another i killed another car and knocked off my track rod)

if i were you i would get a durango, either the R or full blown, get a couple of saddles and sell a couple of sticks.
durango is best ive ever had strong and reliable, the next batch i believe have some upgraded parts too.

best advice i can give

Chris Griffiths 04-03-2010 06:33 PM

Cheers Mark top advice!

The durango is appealing tho. Ill look around online see what is the best price but when is new batch out?

Chris

Al3xis007 04-03-2010 06:45 PM

have a go of as many ppl's cars as you can to get one that suits u, u can get bits for and with stick lipo

cat sx has gotta be up there with the stick lay out, the sx2 is just a polished sx with the new shot-gun-shocks (not the official name) and a few more bits so you might be able to pick up an sx cheap

brooksy 04-03-2010 06:59 PM

If your going to look at prices I think you'll find the dex and pred are about the same. I was all for buying a pred before I came on here and asked a few about it. Preds have been around for years and still the availability of parts is not very good(I don't know of many model shops that stock spares). Also, the price of the parts is a big put-off aswell(a lot dearer than any other manufacturer).
The other thing I've seen on here is people ordering car kits and not receiving them for best part of two months!.

Now take the dex, car has only been out a few months and there is FULL availability of kits and parts(parts also very cheap!).
Adam Skelding will also help you as much as possible as regards any probs you have,ie set-ups and parts.

As Mark said earlier, the car is pretty much bullet proof and a winner straight out of the box, no need for any hop-ups to make it perform.

Durngo all the way!!!!

Pred X11 £340
Durango £450

fairly close on price

Dunc 04-03-2010 07:41 PM

The prices shown on the Team Xtreme web shop are excluding VAT - so a new X11-08 is ~ £400.

I was also tol that the prices on the pred site do not include vat!.

brooksy 04-03-2010 07:47 PM

Damn, you beat me too it Dunc:p:thumbsup:

Dunc 04-03-2010 07:51 PM

Yes, the orange steering links (for revised ackermann) cost a further £40.

EDIT: Sorry Brooksy! :D
