ive had several 501x and the durango is defo stronger car

chris68nufc 01-03-2010 08:25 PM

Why are you needing to throw money at the Durango??

All i have bought is a new spur gear when it melted at Stannington.

Im not sure how you can break them??

No, just one who makes a few more errors than others exposes the inherent weaknesses

racdeaf 01-03-2010 09:21 PM

since i bought alot spares for durango and which still in new in bag and only two thing i had to replaced was pin and lipo strap holder which the shaft pin came loose and chippin away top of lipo saddle and went up in smoke  melted the lipo strap

i gotta say this is one tough durango and done me well

b4pete 01-03-2010 09:25 PM

So a pin coming loose costs you a new battery pack....great fun.

racdeaf 01-03-2010 09:31 PM

can't complain the loose pin cost me a lipo lol

it still a good car pete :p

b4pete 01-03-2010 09:32 PM

It never cost you a lipo, it cost me to sell you one for cost price!! Lol

gazbaz2 01-03-2010 09:32 PM

pete, to be fair, if you think there that bad, sell it or run your cat instead, ive broke a shock tower (for being a tit over a jump) 1 spur and a pin and ive run it just about every week, thats not bad going considering the hammer they get round a track

chris68nufc 01-03-2010 09:33 PM

You can sell it Pete you know??

I had a car i wasnt happy with and sold it. Some cars are for some people. Horses for courses and all that!!

b4pete 01-03-2010 10:16 PM

I dont recall saying the car is bad, just I have encountered loads of niggly issues, that I think could have been avoided by better engineering/manufacturing processes.
There are parts which are thought out very very well, however the design and material use in the CVD joints baffles me a bit for one example.
If I wasnt going to stick with it, it would be long gone by now, for me, and I know im only 'new again' the car is about 90%.
My biggest bugbear is damage sustained when you loose control due to a ball-joint popping off, some car's seem to stay on, some fall off if you even look at them, I have obtained Tamiya 511 Balls and cups which I understand are excellent.
I have already overcome my breaking shocktower problem, for me, the aircraft grade carbon fiber was too stiff and brittle, owing to the lack of bonding agent (they are most likely pre-preg) since going fiberlyte with a lay-up with a coarser weave and more adhesive left in, not had a 1 issue and I dropped some proper clangers, you can see where the corner has dug right into the carpet and there are no cracks, whereas the 2 stock ones I went through the same type of crash snapped clean in half.

[QUOTE=gazbaz2;350069]pete, to be fair, if you think there that bad, sell it

why not everyone else is:p:p:lol::lol:

gazbaz2 01-03-2010 10:45 PM

theres no problem with the grade of carbon used on the "stock" towers, ive had and may i say not many people have had, a problem with them, only you matey, as for the ball cups, again i have had no problem with them,
dont take this the wrong way but it just seems that every time something brakes on the car it seems that there must be a problem with the material used and some kind of defect, nothing to do with the fact that the car goes through some serious hammer whilst on the track, i understand that ball cups can come off easy but thats just 1 of those things, it happens and unfortunatly it'll keep on happening, i have had the 501x ball cups come off before and they are tight

b4pete 01-03-2010 10:54 PM

Well because im such a shit driver and crash all the time, and you hardly crash yours, Im going to find weaknesses you might not.
Notice how I said 'MY breaking shock tower problem' (I went through 2 in as many meetings), and 'FOR ME, the material is too brittle', I changed it and have solved MY problems, I never said there was a defect.
I do take your post the wrong way.
