xx4 front shock towers

we all know that there is a shortage,
do you think theres enough people out there that would buy a machined alloy bottom brace. same shape as bottom half of the shock mount with a carbon top, same geometry etc,and does anyone fancy machining them or pre ordering them let me know your thoughts,
machinest out there that fancy this job pm me please

trekkerkk 14-06-2007 02:06 PM

me personally,
i think its a good idea as it crosses over xx4 x5
i would buy it

Sounds a good idea to me Carl. Losi seem to have dropped the ball a little with their support for this car and I don't even know why. Unless all the machines are busy pumping out toys at the moment?

bigred5765 14-06-2007 02:26 PM

heard two rumours
1 is mould has been dropped and broken
2 there dropping support for this / but i dont know what that means, ether new car or dropping 4wd

tyreman 14-06-2007 03:07 PM

Carl what your after already exists!

It's the Josh Cyrul conversion for the street weapon, from Trinity. It comprised of: lower alloy shock mounts front and rear and 3mm thick carbon plate towers that bolted to them.

bigred5765 14-06-2007 03:20 PM

were can i get em from brian

Doomanic 14-06-2007 05:55 PM

Unfortunately, those parts have been unavailable for years.:(

If anyone has a Street Weapon with them fitted, I'll pay good money for it.

bigred5765 14-06-2007 08:22 PM

yeh me too
brian over to you

losixxx 16-06-2007 09:17 PM

carl you are desperate to get one arnt you :D

makes me wonder how much my brand new old type graphite one is worth;) :D :D

Funkymojo 18-06-2007 05:23 AM

Would love have those alloy bits too...

AndyM 18-06-2007 05:45 AM

does any1 know how much they would cost to machine the aluminium parts? or to make the carbon ones?

Doomanic 18-06-2007 06:59 AM

If I can get a set to measure I can get the aluminium parts made locally. I cannot even guess at a price until the engineering company has seen the complexity of the parts involved.
Getting the carbon parts made is no problem at all, from past experience I would expect the towers to cost in the region of £10-15 each in 4mm carbon fibre.

Chrislong 18-06-2007 07:35 AM

If this is a fit and forget replacement for the fit and snap losi towers - count me in!

Might be worth designing into the lower mount - vertical ballstud mount?

Chris

AndyM 18-06-2007 09:20 AM

if i can find some1 to machine some for me, ill get some done.

just need to find some1 to machine them for me, any ideas?>
or any ideas in ways to maybe change it, like chris' idea about the vertical ballstuds

matdodd 18-06-2007 06:59 PM

count me in to

Slimboyfat 18-06-2007 09:07 PM

me too

ashleyb4 18-06-2007 09:31 PM

And me

ashleyb4 18-06-2007 09:35 PM

Surely if we got enough people to contact losi about it they will act. Another option is xfactory. Because they have none in stock which means they will need to get hold of some or get some made because soon they will run out then they will have to find an alternative and as the x5 is a new car i dont think they will be wanting to make a new car just yet. So if they run out of shock towers people will stop buying the x5 which results in profit loss.

If it was anything to do with the Losi 8ight buggy/truggy then maybe it would speed things up as thats whats selling at the moment, we are only a tiny sector of the market, compaired to 1/8th.
unfortunately:yawn:

bigred5765 18-06-2007 09:54 PM

thanks for all the replies guys I'm now convinced its worth doing,
i have contacted a very well know model engineering company thats looking into machining em,
he guessed at around 30 quid ish for the fit and forget alloy and around 4-6 quid for graphite bits in ether 3mm or 4mm carbon
don't take the 30 quid as gospel the more i get the cheaper. the less the dearer lol

losixxx 18-06-2007 10:11 PM

already asked him bri!! said he's too busy paaaaaa:D
what ever's made need to be designed to be able to incorporate the front anti-roll bar as well

bigred5765 18-06-2007 10:15 PM

o kk good point ill make sure its there

tyreman 18-06-2007 10:17 PM

I don't know why he hasn't done his own interpretation of the penguin front tower brace yet.

So get on with it JC.

bigred5765 18-06-2007 10:20 PM

penguin lol do explane brian please sounds interesting

Doomanic 18-06-2007 10:23 PM

It's the same idea as the Fibre-Lyte tower strengtheners I sell.

ahh haaaa
a see

super__dan 19-06-2007 07:12 AM

Does it really need to allow the use of a front anti roll bar?

When I had my carbon braces made I did them especially to fit the roll bar and as a result they were an odd shape and quite ugly. I don’t know anyone that runs them now either? Because everyone makes them slightly differently you have to have a gap, exactly where you want the carbon for the strength. All I’m saying is Carl, consider if it’s really worth making them bigger and uglier ;)

What you saying Brian :D do you want me to send Wraggy across.

If Losi make some towers problem solved, but it would be nice to know the actual fact why there are no towers around at the mo ?.

MattW 19-06-2007 05:51 PM

I'd be interested in some kind of solution - as my car currently has a broken tower on it (and ran that way all th rough Bury Metro national;) ) - as i have no spares!!

bigred5765 19-06-2007 06:50 PM

i started out on a solid works drawing, but I'm rubbish and need big help anyone fancy helping out ill do u a good deal on alloy parts machined

ryan 19-06-2007 08:47 PM

You got PM carl

djduncaz 20-06-2007 12:02 PM
