Atomic Carbon RB5 Shock Mounts

Hi
I recently purchased some adhoc RB5 shockmounts that were developed with help from Stu Wood. These are the usual high standard atomic items, made in really nice thick 4mm carbon for extra strength. The front mount has an additional hole in the more upright position, and the rear has 2 more holes in the upright position to get the shocks more vertical.

Jonathan at atomic wasn't sure of the demand for these hence why they are currently bespoke jobs. I told him i would start a thread on here to guage peoples interest. Hopefully if enough people are interested he can make them as a stock item which should bring the price down slightly compared to the bespoke price.

If you fancy a pair for your RB5 then please reply to this thread to show your interest.
thanks

Yes, I am interested...

Hello,

thank you very much for your quick reply. I'm really interested in those shock towers and I'd love to buy a pair.

Best regards from Germany,
Chris

PS: I really hope my English is not too bad since I haven't practiced my English for quite a while... sorry for my mistakes!

Your english is perfect and also polite

Depending on price, i too would also be interested in both front and rear towers.

Col.:D

jim76 08-06-2007 12:52 PM

the adhoc ones i got were £10 front and £18 rear. Production ones will hopefully be slightly less, but not sure how much. Jonathan may be able to give more details.

Colinevan 08-06-2007 12:59 PM

Thanks Jim.

Tbh the rear one is quite expensive, but i do appreciate it is quite large and has some development work involved.;)

Im now used to buying Tamiya carbon shock tower for the 501 @ £5 front and £6 for the rear :)

If prices were posted on here , im sure he will attract business no probs.

Col.

Just fitted mine to my RB5 to run this weekend. I must say they fitted like a dream. So much more option on shock position.

OldTimer 13-06-2007 09:53 PM

Hopefully have the towers in stock next week, they worked well on Woody's car at the weekend, unfortunately the price is going to be around the price of the prototype's (£10 for fronts / £18 for rears) but i am trying to sort out a launch offer for oople members ;)

The rear tower is a little pricey but it is made from a large slab of 4mm carbon fibre and has two extra shock mounting holes each side, also the front tower is also 4mm carbon fibre and has one extra shock mounting hole each side.

Photos below of the towers fitted to Woodys car at the Bury National.

jim76 13-06-2007 10:06 PM

there are about 5-6 people on petit-rc who are afte these also. Someone copied my thread over there!

The rear tower i have also has an additional brace between the two sides towards the top for additional strength, which woodys car doesn't currently have.

OldTimer 13-06-2007 10:12 PM

Once i get them in, i will post some photos of the production versions, but as jim76 has pointed out, there is a 3mm brace across the rear tower which is not on Woodys early proto's.

OldTimer 22-06-2007 11:47 AM

The RB5 shock towers are now in stock, and as a launch offer for members of oOple.com a set will cost £25.00 with free P&P (UK only). Normal price will be £10 fronts / £18 rears plus £1.50 P&P (UK).

Simply drop me a PM via the oOple forum with your paypal email address and i will send you a paypal invoice by return, and orders placed and paid for over the weekend, will ship on Monday.

I will post some photos of the towers tonight.

jim76 22-06-2007 12:45 PM

Damn! i should have held on a bit!

it's a good deal - snap them up i say!!

I've just ordered a pair for my RB5. Which hole would you recommend for a very slippery and dusty clay track?

Thanks, greets from Germany.

I would only use the outer 3 holes now. if it is really slippy then i would try the 3rd hole in from the outside first and see how it goes. Also have you got some weight in the front end?

telboy 23-06-2007 05:28 PM

is there any way you can loose weight in this car other than change of electrics and cells?

As mine almost comes up to the 4wd limit!:o

jim76 23-06-2007 08:00 PM

titanium screws and turnbuckles?

if the car goes well, why shed weight? I think the excess weight helps keep it stable, and it certainly isn't slow!

ThePromise 27-06-2007 12:12 PM

I got mine today, awesome!

Thanks a lot so far. Yes, I've put 20gr. on my steering servo. Well, I couldn't drive it yet thanks to the rain we've had for days...

I'll see how it goes.

ran the RRCi RB5 yesterday at york with the atomic carbon shock mounts.

Excellent! they totally transofrmed the car, and with the change to the rear susp' mount that woody let us know about the car was planted!
Managing 15th overall in round 2! my best ever overall in round result.;)

I found that it gave the car a LOT more front end on the grass surface, and it held the rear too which resulted in it carrying so much more speed through the turns.

frustration trying to get past slower cars in round 3/4 saw me end up 2nd in the 'c'. Not a true reflection of the cars ability. If I'd got another clean run in without me making silly mistakes, it would've been mid 'b' easily.

Looking forward to batley now.:)

I want some! wonder how much the shipment is to sweden?!

bender 15-07-2007 06:06 AM

How much for 1 of the rear towers shipped to Australia?

Just pulled my car down from yesterdays racing and discovered the rear tower is cracked across the mounting holes on one side :(
