How hot is your office?

Mine is currently sitting at a sweaty 33oc :eh?: With 18 servers on full chat and a busted aircon system it's not very pleasant!!

emzy 06-06-2007 01:44 PM

I'm a bit chilly... just had to put a jumper on!

Northy 06-06-2007 01:44 PM

Not got a thermometer, but nice and cool with the air con on, I have my jumper on :)

Chris Doughty 06-06-2007 01:44 PM

Wraggy 06-06-2007 01:45 PM

Just go home mate, quoting this:

The HSE guidance publication, Thermal Comfort in the Workplace, seeks to define thermal comfort, and states:
'An acceptable zone of thermal comfort for most people in the UK lies roughly between 13°C (56°F) and 30°C (86°F), with acceptable temperatures for more strenuous work activities concentrated towards the bottom end of the range, and more sedentary activities towards the higher end.'
Haven't a clue how warm my workplace is. I'm a teacher on half term;)

Kopite 06-06-2007 02:07 PM

Our building is right on the river, and that seems to have a cooling effect on me. Good job, cos it's bloody boiling with no aircon!!!

...the french fitties in the floor below us seem to cope better than me though!!! (mmmmm french fitties)

chrispattinson 06-06-2007 02:08 PM

23 deg at the rock.

jimmy 06-06-2007 02:14 PM

Our office was like that once, all those computers and bust aircon - needless to say we all got the day off - and it was a good one too since we all went to the pub!:D

Chrislong 06-06-2007 02:38 PM

Nice and cool in my warehouse. Got all the doors open and fans blowing, and its comfortable if not doing anything too heavy, but as soon as start grafting the warmth begin to feels uncomfortable.

The gym tonight will be like training in a greenhouse, but that means there won't be many people training - nice and peaceful.

Then home later and wax the focus, it'll be that nice temperature while the sun is setting, I like that - relaxing.

TRF_Tastic 06-06-2007 02:47 PM

We had a thermal moment in the server room when the fire surpression system was tested and it shut the aricon down premanently,

15 Big Suns
2 48tb HP EVA SANS
2 NetApp NAS
and 40 other servers.

The internal temp peaked at 63 deg c before we had a chance of shutting the systems down!!! All in the middle of a server upgrade.

Spent most of the day wetting myself!!!!

Fiddybux 06-06-2007 02:48 PM

Waxing the focus....is that a euphemism for *ahem* ? :)

Chris Doughty 06-06-2007 02:49 PM

super geek...

what NetApp filers do you have? they are my new fav toys

TRF_Tastic 06-06-2007 02:53 PM

Sorry dude I leave the Netapps to the Geek squad mooo-nix lovers.

I'm all in with the EVA's man its the way forward!! Certainly with the NAS gateways.

jimmy 06-06-2007 02:56 PM

Fair enough I'm a bit geeky since I've barely left a screen for the last 17 years or so, but even this is too geek for me! :p

your never getting your body out are you millzy ?????:eh?:
ill come and stand next to ya then :D :D

DCM 06-06-2007 03:46 PM

Well, in the mobile office, it was mega hot this avo, mind you, sitting in the car, near the school, chilled out burning my legs and arms made it bareable.... now I got the windows and patio doors open, nice cool breeze swooshing through... ace.

Saying that....

My last place of work was a mobile office (portakabin thingy), there were 18 of us in there, and we all had a minimum of 2 PC's working away under the desk and the same amount of monitors on the desk, and on a hot day like today.... the aircon would be pissing itself but accomplishing nowt other than to make the person next to it to be cold. On days like that, you had places sweating that you never though could sweat.... all whilst wearing engineering grade cotton trousers and polo shirts.... oh, and boots.

Can't believe you didn't buy them from us Chris :D

I will have to have words with your account manager here and get him to come and take you all out for a nice lunch!

Chris Doughty 06-06-2007 05:17 PM

you sell them?

we got them direct from NetApp, we purchased 3 clusters, one for San Jose, one for UK, one for Penang...

it was quite a large PO :o

actually, are you still with Q? maybe we should talk, we have a lot of Sun junk here that could do with replacing with new Sun stuff...

Nick Goodall 06-06-2007 10:59 PM

Yes indeed Chris, give me a shout mate and i will sort you out with a good account manager. We've done a lot with NetApp over the last 2 years or so now so have some good technical guys now that really know their stuff but yeah give me a shout any time mate. Q is a relatively small company so you should get good service at least.

_JP_ 06-06-2007 11:25 PM

well our was about 25 today, lots of fans on and I have 4x120mm fans from a pc blowing on me :)

don't help having 28 machines running 100% as there on burnin!

my o/c 3ghz dual core2 at home was running about 44% which is heating the bedroom up, however I did find throttling the cpu to 1.4 dropped it to 32 makes a big difference and if you get it right don't affect the performance to much

Southwell 07-06-2007 07:12 AM

Walked in this morning to 17oc :D Lovely stuff.
Luckily im getting a office away from the server room in a couple of weeks so the new servers (8 more) wont deafen me!
