42163 TRF511 Box Type Battery Holder
Tamiya have announced some new stuff for the next model expo.. including
42163 TRF511 Box Type Battery Holder Nice.. a proper lipo solution for the 511 and 501.. Other things of note is the 58456 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 (TA05 Ver.3) |
you got that right, Ver.3 not Ver.2??
|
Thats what it says.. I think it will be a typo as the V2 is only a year old.. but it will be interesting to see
|
v.2 isn't even a year old, as it only broke cover in spring last year... might of been later than that.. I want to see a LiPo specific car!!
|
Trust me, there is no version 3 and that was a typo.
The box type battery holder is a lipo tray. |

Is ther any pics around! |
I presume this will be different (slimmer?) posts and a carbon lipo retainer?
|
Rudebits brass tray
Might want to just hold fire on the battery tray as there is possibly a rudebits brass tray in pipeline (so I've heard) ?? ;)
|
what have the people running lipo saddle in their car been doing to make the saddles not slide around, i thought my saddle had the lumps underneath so they would locate in the nimh holes but i was mistaken, now im worried my lipos will slide around everywhere

I just double sided taped them to the straps, not like they get taken in and out alot anyhow. They can be taken out if wanted this way;)
|
I got Fred Emilsson's lipo cradle kit - it shifts them both about 5mm outwards and means any/many lipos fit.
I also run a couple of .9mm brass sheets under each lipos for the extra weight. Works quite well. Let's me tune the added weight very well (I can put two or three plates in - currently running 1). I know my results were a bit naff at Worksop, but the car was going great towards the end of the day, once I got the balance I liked in the car (and stopped breaking it ). In better hands, it would have done much better that I did  ... |
thanks for the tips dudes, i'll double side tape them to the straps for the moment and i'll wait for these tamiya cradles to come out
|
Is there any information on when this will be available? How long does it take normally from a toy fair to the big dealers in HK? If anyone has found a picture of the cradle and could post it here that would be awesome.
|
I havenīt seen the tray, but expect a 3-piece tray in carbon.
Tamiya says: The Li-Po Tray for TRF511 includes the following parts: Carbon holder A x 1pc. Carbon holder B x 2pcs. 3mm Lock nut x 5pcs. 3x8mm Screw x 6pcs. 3x8mm Screw x 4pcs. 3x10mm Scew x 4pcs. 3x0.5mm Spacer x 5pcs. 3x3mm Spacer x 4pcs. Will probably cost $23-25 on stellamodels, rc-mushroom etc. |

Thank you for those pics.
The center piece has 3 holes. Should mean that you can move it rearward in 3 steps. Still need to remove some material from the center/motor bulk I guess? It doesnīt seem to move the batterys to clear the center/motor bulkhead or am I missing something? My LiPo tray does...;) And my tray only shares one screw with the undercowl. So when you remove the undercowl the tray is still attached to the chassi. http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_m...08022010100048 I think this is one of few Tamiya options I will not buy.:) Of course, they will maybe release an updated version of 511 with a modified/different bulkhead. Then this will fit without any modification. |
bummer Fredrik, i should have just bought your battery trays, the awesome thing about urs is they also act as a spacer to raise the height of the battery posts, will the tamiya ones and ur ones work in a 501x?
|
My 501 has a set of Fredricks holders fitted  and soon the diff cover also!!
Just the job ;) Andy |
I donīt really understand why they didīnt make the outer pieces u-shaped? Then they could have used the battery post holes in the chassi instead. Would have saved 2 spacers.
It would also have fitted the 501X as well. (Not so important for Tamiya maybe, the 501X is discontinued) You would also be able to remove the undercowl without touching the tray. No, thatīs not a big problem. But one more thing that you have to remember each time you have removed the undercowl. Two more things on the pit table each time you remove the undercowl. My 501X tray fits the 511. BUT you have remove some material from the center bulkhead. The battery will be in "standard" position. On the 501X you donīt have this problem. The LiPos fit without any modification of the bulkhead. My 511 tray do not fit the 501X. The rear mounting hole (where you attach the 511 undercowl) does not exist on the 501X. The rear (front) suspension mount is also different between 501X and 511. This is why I donīt think the Tamiya tray fits the 501X. Maybe you can modify it to fit. The 511 LiPo tray moves the LiPos back to clear the bulkhead. Here are pics of the 511 alongside the 501X: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_m...87535&id=13377 |
sorry to change subject, but are tose losi ball cups on the 511? they look very white. Nice!! i'm guessing hpi balls under them?
|
Yes.:)
LO-A-6015 (Losi white ball cups) HB-61582 and HB-61581 (Hot Bodies ball studs) They are perfect. |

I use these with the losi cups above Andy |
Guys just to let you know, the lrp lipos have tabs already fitted as part of the casing, you can also turn them upside down and use them in other cars so the tabs are on the top.
They fit perfectly in the car with and the only mod you have to do is raise the battery posts with a few washers, they fit ace and are tight. Worth spending the extra for in my opinion. hope this helps. Col. |
Col, are they 24.8 mm high incl. the chassis locator?
The 511 has ~22 mm between the chassi and center bulk. So you canīt use lipos that are higher than ~21 mm without modifying the center bulk or by moving the lipos rearwards. |
the main problem with the LRP batts is they cost way too much, most of the saddles like intellect and venom dont have the locators, so its better to just have a tray in my case, the amount i save buying one venom pack compared to an lrp pack would cover the lipo tray
|
I think Frederick's lipo solution to the TRF cars are much better than Tamiya's own!
keep up the good work Sir :) |
Thank you very much!
|
Just looked at jr-rc, he has the new LiPo tray. It says: For TRF511 (Some modification with a file is required) Compatible battery size (w/out modification) L:47.5mm W:69mm H 22mm) Cost ~$25 + shipping. |
Also Stella has got it in stock but if you search or the number there is no result. I think they will list it in the next few days.
|
Hupo set-up from the Euros .... he had 50g of ballast at back by lipo's. Surely this means the rude bits brass tray makes sense as you have the weight right down low (where you want it) and a lipo tray ??
|
|
@Migs - the LRP packs use Intellect cells... have taken one apart. So you pay 100% more just for the case.
And as for these holders, I think they're naff compared to Fredrik's which fit great, look great, work great and require no modifications... |
