Car dealer advice
 
I bought my car just under a year ago and it had a clunky gearbox in 2nd which did go away a bit but never really did. I brought it up to the dealer several times but they could never replicate (like usual)
Now it is very difficult to get into second and when you do it almost clunks in.
Do i have any recourse seeing as this a continuation of a problem i brought up when i first purchased it and it has got much worse. It's a 2006 and i have a years warranty although i don't want to go this route as it was a problem when i bought it.

Also the engine is very noisy with a clunking noise until it warms up, this has just started though.

When i pull into my garage there is a funny noise until i take my foot off the clutch and take it out of gear, i don't know if they could be a problem with the gearbox?!?

oddly ive had the same fault with my merc van, managed to get them to pay and sort it.
spoke to consumer direct and your out your 6 months period of fit for purpose ( mine was in)
if its ac lutch clearance fault your waranty wont even cover it ( wear and tear) mine was sycro's in gear box.

ring consumer direct, what car is it?

Its a mazda 6 2.0 diesel.

Is there any easy way to check the problem or would i be splashing out for major checks? Am i best to cut my losses?

If you have a years warranty left take it back to the dealers and let them sort the fault out..

If you don't seem to Know much about cars,9xout of 10 a dealer will try to fob you off untill the waranty runs out.(they make more money like that)If it was a second hand car they probably would try to say the clutch and gearbox are not covered under their warranty. I'm no expert on mazdas, but if you have a dual mass clutch fitted there could be any range of probs,If it a conventional cluch the noise you can hear could be the thrust bearing.Maybe your best bet is to go to a couple of indpendant garages and see what they say.

Absolutley mate, especially as you have mentioned it before. Ill give you an example, we had a customer come in to us 2 weeks ago complaining that his bike was running badly after 3 years and 30,000 harsh miles, without any dealer service history. It turns out 2 of the stick coils had corroded along with the silencer baffles. Kawasaki still did the work under warranty even though it was a year out of the warranty period.
Also we had a chap complaining of a noisey engine on his custom bike, this went on for about 3 and a half -4 years, we could never 100% accuratley diagnose the fault until a main crank bearing failed, again as he had reported it to us on a previous occasion the work was done under warranty (bikes have 2 year warranty from new). Ive got to say we are very lucky with Kawasaki, the bike dont give us hassles too often, but if and when they do Kawasaki always back us up and help the customer.
So give it a go and see what they say!

Thanks for the replies. It's a third party warranty so I would have to go to a garage first then hope they pick up the cheque.
My other option is to sell it to those cash for cars place and hope they don't pick up on the fault.

I better buy a bike, my dual mass clutch has gone in my nissan 4x4, it's 3months out of warranty and done 45.000miles, nissan have admitted the clutches are a problem, but still want £1.550 to replace it with a conventional clutch, thay also replaced a door handle one month before the warranty ran out, it's now broken again...they want £65 just to look at it....needless to say it going to get messy as there is no way I'm paying for that lot.
Oh yer, I had a rear shock fail the first MOT and nissan wouldn't cover that eather!
anyone looking at a nissan Navara at the min...walk away!!

I bought my ford ranger new in 08 and its been back so many times to the main dealer for repairs i got a christmas card from them...:thumbsup: so thats a navara and a ranger to stay away from..

Back in 2003 i took a break from the bike trade and went to work for Renault. Wow that opened my eyes to car dealerships. if a car went wrong you had to ask Renault what they were preppared to "contribute" towards the repair. Also you were unable to claim on a part that had already been claimed for.
The 1st week i started work there i had the task of telling a customer that the turbo on his 60,000 mile 2 year old £28,000 Laguna had blown whilst out on road test after its service. Trying to calm the customer down i later found out that he had already had 2 turbos previously blow! the sad thing was Renault paid 1st time round......after that the £2800 bills fell at the customers feet! I lasted 6 months at Renault before i went back to the bike trade. I couldn't handle the amount of hassle and daily angry customers!

sorry thats bollox

most garages use and approved warranty so the cost has allready been spent by the dealer taking the warranty out, if its manufacuters warranty the dealer does not pay!!!
our dealership has mazda in there, an independant is more then likley not going to know what it is, or be able to claim on the warranty ( unless thier a spezialized independant)

are you the original owner?

if so call thier customer services (nissans not the dealer) techically the handle repair is only warrantied till the manufactures warranty expires, the dealer should guarateee thier workmanship for 12 months, but unfortunatly not the part.

clutches dont cause dual mass flywheel failure, unless its been abused, if there wanting to fix it by replacing the whole unit, they know thay have a problem, again customer services or have a word with consumer direct.

ford dealer im at has mazda too. ill ask the mazda tech for you, but im not back at work for another week still off sick with my eye

my experience of 'third party warranties' are they are good, as long as you don't expect them to pay for the investigation, or removal of parts to get to the faulty item, they have only ever paid for the labour and materials for the faulty part. Not the work to get there.

As for those places who 'buy your car' expect to have your wallet raped.

My warranty covers everything as long as the investigation finds a fault but only on broken parts, seeing as it's just 'dodgy' i doubt it will happen.

I wanted to change for a Mazda 3 for the mrs but cant really trade in like this. If i didn't trade it in i would want to keep it.

haha... I know that feeling, wait till you got kids, and they want to join 'clubs' you never have any change left!!

You could always trade it in, they will just reduce the value a little, and probably less than it would cost you to fix it!

I stand corrected by an EXPERT:yawn:.I don't work in the trade, I'm just on the reciving end of it, and unfortunatly they arn't all as saintly as you & your place or as helpfull, thanks for the advice, I am in the process of dealing with nissan directly, as they are admitting that if you tow a lot, which I do the dual mass can't cope with it, BUT I tow nowere near the max capacity of the vehicle.

then your vehicle is not fit for purpose!, if they list a max towing capacity the drive train should be capable of doing it, if not they should have put a warning in the handbook etc to warn this vechicle is not capable of towing do not fit a tow bar.

look at it this way, if thay have said they can not fault it, trade it in as there is nowt wrong with it in thier eyes!:D

Ive been driving it all day and have had maybe 2 slightly clunky changes into 2nd, most of the day it's been perfect. :confused:

Ive been offered 5500 on trade in at every garage ive been too or 5400 cash for a straight sale, but i only tried one garage for that so far.
Ive seen it north of 7500 on the forecourts so im hoping to stretch them up to 5800 then ill keep the cash and buy something cheaper that i dont have to worry too much about as i don't drive all that much anymore.

Well the last week or so in the cold it's making a really bad clunking noise which gets worse with engine speed, the noise goes away completely after it's warming up a bit, any advice or is this going to get worse and worse?

Well sounds like a proper tappet noise but much louder, it only really does it at partial throttle, but lasts about 30 seconds, then goes. The oil looks blackish but was supposidly replaced at the service, but i have lost faith in them after some horror stories.

Is the oil too thick and taking a while to run round the whole engine? should i get it replaced? The noise hasn't got any worse.

has it been main dealer serviced?
i see its a TDCI so i assume the mazda uses the ford engine, if so these have to run on 5w/30 fully synthetic oil.

It was serviced at an independant garage last, about 800 miles ago. Before this i had no issues with the engine, but i thought the cold might have caused issues?

Sounds like theve put wrong oil in it mate tbh, ive recently done a zetec focus that kept stalling due to wrong oil in it

The 6 diesel uses mazdas own engine,pretty bombproof.The garage that serviced it 800 miles ago what oil did they use?should have been 5/30.

Don't know, the service sheet just says oil change.

well, I think you got nothing to lose by getting the engine flushed, filter changed and put oil that you supply, into the engine, then if you use the correct oil and it still does it, then you know it wasn't that.

They confirmed they used 10w40 semi synthetic. But said it was recommended by Mazda and is on their system to use.
Any advise on this or should i book it in for 5w30 fully synthetic at another garage?

Defo put the 5/30 in it mate, even Kwikfit should put in the correct oil
