DNX408 - rear end photos
 

Team Durango:
The DNX408 rear-end design is all about low weight, keeping weight forward, putting the wing over the rear wheels and giving the most ground clearance.
The 408 will probably be the lightest car on the market, this is thanks to many design considerations, but it is easy to see the thinking on the rear-end of the car; minimalistic gearbox case, slender but tough bulkheads and the smallest rear overhang of any car.

I'm just wondering when you switch the arms around to run the shocks on the rear, where do you mount the roll bar then?

Only way I can see it working is that you leave the sway bar mount/rod ends in the same hole on the arm but you slide the bar further into the ball end that keeps the bar in position... Either that or the extra hole for mounting isn't on these pre production parts?

they can't keep it on the rear (of the arm) because the shocks will interfere with the roll bar tie-rods

they can't have the arm mounts on the front and the pivot on the front, you would require a new bar and the leverage wouldn't really work that well

I'd say they need a roll bar mount on the 'back' of the rear gearbox also.

Yeah to convert then it will need those parts/modifications to the parts we see on the photos.

But they do say they "doubt you will use this feature". So basically moving the shocks rearward sacrifices the sway bar, doesn't seem like something they are too fussed about as an option, they are simply letting us know it is possible!

it has to be said though, any aspiring designer/engineer should certainly take inspiration from Durango's ideas and methods. they always seem to have a 'new' way of doing something, even if that something has been done before, their implementation of it is always different.

durango have what other manufacturers dont they have a blank sheet, they dont have to follow or perform to what happened in the past they can look at other designs find the weaknesses and design better stronger simpler parts that succeed where others dont

they also have vision and alot of style

i cant wait for this to come out, i just hope it doesn't turn all hyper 9 and break like a carrot!!!

But I think Durangos products are works of art.

Engineering art perhaps, but art just the same.

If they use the normal 10th plastic mix, wishbones will certainly be too weak for average 8th drivers :eh?:

Also saw a comment on Neo that you'll need a threadlock sponsor for the year to run it :D

It looks beautiful indeed but if its going to be like a 10th car it'll be a non starter for the nitro peeps.

Wonder who will be the 1st to convert it to brushless.

Brushless prototypes have been tested already :D

I've been racing my DEX410 since it was released. Have not broken a single plastic part :confused: The car seems pretty damn tough to me, not sure if you own a 410?

The only casualties have been 1x driveshaft pin, 1x wheel pin, 4x wheel bearings. So it's not like I haven't bee driving this thing as hard as possible. Great handling car and not crashing helps I guess :woot:

The sad part is I have half a cars worth in new spare parts, sitting in my pit box feeling very left out. Rango spares are cheap too.

So what the heck to 8th scale drivers do to their cars to punish them so?

I had not broken anything until a marshal put my car onto a straight with a car coming full power at it. The inner rear hinge pin was bent in a curve as it bent in two places and pulled through the plastic but at that speed you would expect this sort of damage. Have even had that with the 1/8th. I expect the 1/8th Durango to be strong seeing as the DEX-410 is seems to be much stronger than the Losi/AE/X-Factory cars I have raced.
