Extreme 3D Helicopter Flying

I dont think this sort of thing has ever been posted on here really, So i thought id share a quick vid!

I think im straying towards this now! :D

It's amazing to watch, the skill required to keep the heli in control is immense. Maintenance is also key, if one of the many ball joints fail it's more than likely curtains to the entire chopper and anything it hits.

This is one of my favourite videos, the pilot is Alan Szabo.

Woahh thats amazing! :woot:

Im slightly dizzy watching that, Ive noticed DMS Racing have a couple of RTF 3D Heli's for about £260. From what ive seen reveiw wise and clips on Youtube as a stock kit they look pretty damn good value! I dont assume for one second i could even attempt anything 3D like that very quick but my god they look alot of fun!!

I had a sceadu evo 50 and one of the original Trex's, I never got past hovering as I sold them after I saw a very close near miss with a heli and a pilot's kid. The buzz of flying is amazing though.

I went to the 2005 3d masters and saw some awesome flying, I might have to go along again but I've no desire to fly anymore, I'm sticking to the cars.

oh dear god it has taken about 2 years to get to the point when i will pull the sticks and take it upside down but still i cringe and listen for the tell tale slap when the blades hit the boom and you know that your going to have to call up the hobby shop

Garry Driffill 17-01-2010 06:55 PM

:o owch!

Is there any 'Ok-ish' 3D kits you would reccomend? I know with price comes quality but a good starter?

well i leart to fly with a honey bee cp2 its a good starter kit and it will allow some mild 3d aswell getting some time in on the simulator is a good idea when its too windy to go flying

Garry Driffill 17-01-2010 07:06 PM

Humm, ive heard about these Honeybee Heli's and im tempted, Ive seen a pretty cool one at DMS for around £260 odd. Its all brushless and has a fair sized LiPo pack too and it comes with a balence charger aswell i thnk..

well all i can say is it wont be easy i honestly would start with a honeybee FP or if you really wat this you will need allot of sim time a big wallet and really a person who can fly it to help you learn

racingdwarf 25-01-2010 12:30 AM

Just seen this, I started with the Blade400 its ok, I did get a friend who flys a lot to calm it down a bit for me before I started, a half decent shop should have someone behind the counter who can do this for you,But you will crash more than a few times when lerning, and the blade parts are so cheep, tail booms £4.80ish pr pair, worst part is the blades at £8.50 a pair

but once you get the hang of it , it is a cheep hobby as you don't ware much out, just grab the heli and go flying. I have the blade400 now and also bought a T-rex500 sweet but a bit more costly to put in:cry:,so I practice with the blade...then the 500:thumbsup: But the buzz is great, it's like driving an A final every time you lift of the ground.

I learnt on my own,I put training gear on and spent hours on a tenis court, this way the heli can slide around a bit on the tamac, and you won't tip it over straight away as you get the hang of it ,as they are so so sensetive to input on the cyclic.

dave g 25-01-2010 09:27 AM

wife bought me a heli for christmas, one of the 6ch trex 450 clones.

i can now fly nose in as of yesterday :)

i was crapping myself first time i flew nose in expecting to ditch it but wasnt too bad.
i guess it makes it easier with racing cars as you already know the basics.

i have set mine up for basic hovering and a low headpseed so im getting 14-15 mins out of a 2250 lipo.

mark christopher 25-01-2010 10:05 AM

is that one you killed earlier at the bottom of the goal posts?

dave g 25-01-2010 10:12 AM

no thats our kids who was filming,he can hover tail in,hes too chicken to try nose in yet.

steelie600 25-01-2010 05:56 PM

now i may have lost the plot again but im sure im a post missing off this thread??
