death of the x6....
with the advent of the new couger sv...a full production 2wd mid motor car will this be the end of the x6? being that the sv MAYBE half the price and with its own spares package and not having to source other parts from other cars!
opinions please. |
I VERY much doubt it....watch this space!!!
X-Factory are not just standing still at present, but queitly working away behind the scenes on new things. Whilst other companies are designing new cars from scratch and now starting to figure out how to make them work the best etc, we have a huge headstart on that side of things, which is allowing us to work on other things to raise the bar once more on the X6 and take it to the next level. The time is right now that several companies are attempting to catch us up in terms of on track performance!! |
garry the x6 will always be awesome buddy as it set the bench mark to me and it s the buisness go x factory woop woop

Garry - a very good question. There is a lot going for the Cougar:
|
my cynical view of RC buyers/racers....
- people will buy a Cougar SV and say its the best 2WD they have ever driven (new car syndrome) - then they start to drive it differently because its not 'new' anymore and not go so good, lots of people will put them up for sale - then they will buy the car they sold to get a Cougar SV again and then claim that is the best car they have ever driven (magic setup or whatever) - rince and repeat. like so many things in life, its a cyclical process. trends swing one way, then back the other way and so on |

I fully agree with your sentiments, but I guess if someone does genuinely want to buy a mid-engine 2WD and two contenders perform similarly then I guess the one at ¾ the price with less purchasing hassle will win.

..is that why the xx4 keeps coming back for more? The truth is any mainstream production 1/10 car is as good near enough as any other in the right hands/set up. Anyway, that aside I'm sure this Cougar will be excellent and will indeed be this years 'black' |

1. We cant do anything about the British thing sadly, XF are US based.... 2. Reputation....I think X-Factory have done themselves proud thus far in the cusotmer service areas etc, certainly on par with any other brand out there IMHO, and we will always continue to add and improve on that from over here in the UK. 3. One-stop-shopping - I did say we are not standing still, wathc this space 4. Similiar answer to three really, but with the additon of hop ups. I ams sure that Schumachers "Speed Secrets" list will be as long as any other manufacturers list of options when the SV gets here, just the same as AE (Factory Team parts) and all other companies, including us at X-Factory who have "optional parts" available. "Maybe" we can include some of these extras in our next project......;) The one plus point I beleive we do have at present is that the X6 is "proven". It is reliable, fast and easy to drive (quickly), all of which are not guarrenteed on ANY new car that is on its way from anyone (including the SV) and are assets that have to proven over the course of time...... And as for Chris Doughty's comments........absolutley spot on!!! Everything goes in trends, one minute somthing is hot, the next minute you cannot give it away! This goes as far to include products, race classes, clubs, brands and hell even down to wheel types and colours!! EVERYTHING goes around full circle time and time again......... |

how many options/upgrades come out, take the cat, you can spend more than a durango if you put the bits on it! the 2wd may come out and you may have lots of options just a chris says, and i wish them success with it EDIT: bum beat to it by darren |
Isn't most things made in the far east anyway?

Could not agree more Rich, just making my point..... ;)

Darren - all good points and I for one concur with your answer to point two, I guess I was saying that if this was a new comers offering without much track record then they would struggle more.
Regarding point four, again you are correct, all manufacturers will have their hop ups, but this is where I was a little bit disappointed with the X6 squared when I had to purchase items such as the longer axles, hangers etc, which I think most would view as essential before using the buggy. If the Cougar comes out with items which are also optional, but essential then you will be correct. Quote:

I think we will have ot wait and see.
As Darren says the latest is usually seen as "the greatest" by most, it's when your still intending on running a car for it's 3rd season that you can be sure it was a good one ;) If nothing else another choice is never a bad thing! |

One thing i am looking forward to from this new schuey is the pre-glues front tyres! I hope they fit a B4 axle. |
Gary you nob head why did you start this thread, we will just get the X6 haters coming on moaning!!
Still I think its good for off road in general, new cars coming onto the scene will only help the class grow! Be nice to see one going on track, to be honest there isnt a really bad car out there, each to their own I say! :D |

I think the question is fair, but I don't think it's the end but I do think we may see the end of upgrade cars so the next xf kits should be there own cars to make them cost effective????

sorry mark, just sparking a bit of banter...i love my x6(im on my 2nd!). but, there is a case for both sides tho....! |
Hasn't every car needed upgrades to fix issues?
Competition in the market is a good thing. |
Schumacher cars have never really been for me, but this does look promising...
Wonder if they'll do a blue edition :p EDIT... All for competion, makes it interesting  |
Well, now I'm expecting thread named
death of the Cougar SV :p |
Negative about the Schumacher, is garaunteed, they will release the car, then a few months down the line, they will have a shed load of parts to rectify parts that really wasn't tested by numpties.
Positive, a mid motored car that isn't a conversion, so should cost quite a bit less!! |
.....Or you could all wait for the DEX210, then you would have the best of both worlds with the reversable gearbox that looks planned. :)
 |

I think it will be great to see Schmacher cars back at the top of ranks again :)

Build it, and they will come...
It's interesting that some think that one car will be the death of the other, when history relates that this isn't the case. The Fiat 500 was released in 1957, and sold like cold cakes outside Italy because no one could see the point of a small car. Enter the Mini, and by the mid-60s, 500 sales had shot up. It is difficult for a technically new product to make the market alone, but when a similar product comes along, it makes the technology legitimate. Current technology is the same. We had the Blackberry, but until the iPhpne came along, such an all-encompassing mobile device was deemed the province of businessmen. Once the iPhone came along, it legitimised the concept of e-mail on the move. At the same time, the use of touch screens was considered the province of geeks (mainly Apple geeks!) but here we are with Nokia, Samsung and Google all coming in to the market. Suddenly, the touch screen is the market standard, and the geeks are now part of the mainstream. If the layout of the x6 confers such an advantage, and Schumacher have worked out the secret of its success ( ;) ), the we can expect others to follow. Suddenly, the market is legitimate. If they all go this way, and it makes 2WD off-road easier for new drivers to enter because the cars are easier and better to drive, then everyone's sales go up. XFactory will as likely see an increase in sales if the Schumacher car is as fast as theirs - mid-engined 2WD cars, as a technology in the market - have arrived! I hope you all enjoy them. 2WD Off-Road is the only thing I'd give up my beloved 12th scale for, and it deserves all the popularity these two cars might give it. |
I doubt this will be the death of the X6 - it might even increase sales, but it will change the way its done.
Lots of X6's out there were built from a fresh B4 Team kit, making it a very expensive car to build. That I think will cease as people who want a sparkly new mid engine 2wd will just get the Cougar. BUT The B4 is still the most popular race car out there. So there are loads of B4 owners itching to get on the mid motor bandwagon and the X6 is a cheaper option than the Cougar if you already own a donor B4. |
and what "if" you dont always have to buy a donor car to get an X6 complete but could have the choice of a conversion or a whole kit so you could get to the same end product via two different routes?????? :o Now that might be somthing worth thinking about for the future pherhaps ;). I have said several times before, at X-Factory we have not just made the car and then gone off into hibernation, we too have many things on the go and in the pipeline and also the advantage of a HUGE headstart over our rivals in the race for the ideal mid motor 2wd in terms of design, set up and track time we have already gained... so watch this space as they say!
|
The big thing thats always turned me off an X6 is the cost it would take me to build up a new one, as I didnt already own a B4 the cost to get one was high and always too much for me to justify.
If it could be bought as a kit I would of been much more tempted (although I now own a b4 so I intend to run that for a while before trying anything else) |
