Silverstone 2wd Regional this Sunday

Silverstone 2wd Regional this Sunday.

For all those booked in for this event that haven't been before (and the one's that have) here's a few pictures of the (grass) track at sunny Silverstone taken on Tuesday 15th (excuse bad pics from my phone).

From these pictures you can see some of the track, including the main straight and you should be able to get a pretty good idea of how the surface should hold up during racing. You must keep in mind that this track has not actually been raced on since LAST YEAR so should be in prime condition.
;)

has the club got a website?

also postcode if known as I plan to be @ the Juniors/Veterans event later in the year

spenner 15-05-2007 09:26 PM

That is the same layout from our 4wd regional last year!!! My racing line is still on there!!:D

Smartalec 15-05-2007 09:27 PM

Grass has really taken well hasn't it
:D

jim76 15-05-2007 10:28 PM

whay happened to the plans to reseed the grass and sort out drainage etc? The club had major plans for the track but it hasn't been touched! Looks indentical to the way we left it except it in now soaked instead of dry and dusty!
Looks like Swindon all over again judging by the forecast for the week!

Nick Goodall 16-05-2007 09:46 AM

I'm intending to go, but the Weather forecast is really doing a good job of putting me off at this moment in time......... Hopefully it'll improve later in the week.

Southwell 16-05-2007 10:04 AM

But wet racing is fun! Well not so much for the yok, it's a pile of rust at the moment :D

Nick Goodall 16-05-2007 10:12 AM

Ian, it's 2wd though isn't it anyway???

Southwell 16-05-2007 11:01 AM

Yeh, 2wd wet is fun too....

JCJC 16-05-2007 12:24 PM

Looks like light showers Saturday arvo, same again Sunday, with only 34ish on the booking in page at DMS mabey we can get finished early enough to miss the worst of the rain.

Is there a burger/butty/breakfast thingy.

Nick Goodall 16-05-2007 12:24 PM

Fun's one word lol, blowing up electrics and having no "wet" tyres is not so good.......

spenner 16-05-2007 01:15 PM

On there web site it says Breakfast from 9am!!!! Im guessing there is something for food.

Nick, we are racing on grass shouldn't be any problem with water unless it tips down with rain. If you need any wet weather tyres there will be loads of us with left over bb pinks from Kiddy, and John will be there with the shop. You know you want to be there

Nick Goodall 16-05-2007 01:51 PM

:D we'll have to see Jon, i know what you mean about Water with Grass but it still gets the cars absolutely caked and nearly everything on the car is new - seems like a bad way to christen it....... or could be a good way i guess?

I think i'll just see how it pans out this week, if it starts to brighten up the good old BBC 5 day forecast changes anyway so it may be better later this week!

What do you guys mainly run in the wet now (grass)? Is it just Ballistics? No more TR32's or Full spikes??

spenner 16-05-2007 02:19 PM

TR32's if you can get hold of them. BB's are pretty good in the rain, as the track at Silverstone has alot of clay content the BB pinks should work great!! I hope.
The weather will be fine!! i hope anyway, don't want two meetings washed out in one week

Southwell 16-05-2007 02:22 PM

So to clarify we CAN use TR32's at a regional?? I don't want to try and run them only to be told I can't....

spenner 16-05-2007 02:26 PM

I think there is a very big grey area on the tyre situation. BB 2wd front's according to Jacquie haven't been made for 5 years, but we used them at the weekend!!!!
The way i look at it if you can buy them in shops they are comercially available.
Tr 32's ARE still available you just got to look on ebay etc....
A shop across sea's has and can get them. (And i have just been informed they still produce them )
Think this may be a rule that is re-wrote end of this year

PTRU 17-05-2007 08:14 AM

Hi John
I am going to Silverstone Track with Mark tonight to inspect the track at 7.00pm If you and Alec wish to be there to add your coments I would be greatfull.

pro4nut 17-05-2007 08:39 AM

Tyre choice is open for our regionals.

by the way there is a Tamiya supergripper with the same tread pattern as a TR32.

Teddy truman 17-05-2007 08:45 AM

nick lee's not going so grab his spear car and tyres lol that way your car wont get muddy..... problem what problem lol:D

Nick Goodall 17-05-2007 09:08 AM

Hmmm now that's not a bad idea..... Lee? Where are you???

I don't mind my car getting muddy, it's just a shame if it requires TR32's/Full spikes as i'm sure it's still the case that nothing else gets close if it's really wet - i know Lee said that's why he left Swindon last year as even he was 2 seconds a lap slower.

I'm just hoping it's dry for the first part of the day at least :-)

Lee Martin 17-05-2007 09:44 AM

nick i got some of them big spikes on B3 wheels u could try....

o and tony....u going to spear my car?????

spenner 17-05-2007 10:49 AM

Hi Phill,

I was intending going over Saturday to have a look at the track, also if the club are looking for any help with regard getting it all right by the End of season finals i don't mind lending a hand.
Can you let us know what the situation is with the track once you have been over ??
Would love to get over before sat but family plans already made.

Regards

John

Weather looking better at:

http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/...code=Ox3&day=3

Nick Goodall 17-05-2007 03:03 PM

Good spot Mick, hope it does stay dry! A bit of rain in the morning won't do any harm, but it's horrible racing all day when it's pi$$ing down.

JCJC 17-05-2007 06:33 PM

If you do decide to race nick what you driving ? (assuming in aint pidge's car).

spenner 17-05-2007 07:52 PM

Phil,

Any news on how the track is????

Smartalec 17-05-2007 08:12 PM

Hopefully if Phil has looked at the track he'll be able to suggest some alternative layouts so as to make the meeting on Sunday a success. Especially as the weather looks a little more promising now . . . . . I think the weather men guess. . . . . must be the only job on the planet that you can get wrong 365 days of the year and still stay employed !!!!!

:D

I've got my own B4 now, so hoping to run it for the first time this weekend ;) I'm hoping it'll be an easy step from the B3 as it should really just do everything a bit better? Hope that's the case anyway :D

Swiss 18-05-2007 08:39 AM

Anyone got a postcode for Sunday?

PTRU 18-05-2007 08:41 AM

Hi Guys

The track is ok to race on bit muddy at present but a lot of grip. The grass has not taken in some places and it has not helped the club that some nice young gentelmen have been riding there bikes around the track, thus the racing line. Bet they had fun though. Still old school grass track there are some jumps

If the weater stays as it is now, the grass will be cut on Saturday and rolled. The weather forcast looks ok dry today and windy, dry tomorrow. showers from about 1pm-2pm on Sunday.

The club are going to re seed the grass after this event.

Hope this helps you all and lookforward to seeing you all on Sunday.

Can anybody help me with the name and tel number of the people who supply the free astro please, seem to of lost last years BRCA book

Phill T

Smartalec 18-05-2007 11:43 AM

If the track is good enough for the Regional Rep (Phil) then it should be ok for everyone else
;)

See you all Sunday

....... and Nick, should be good to see you driving the B4 (a much better car than your old B3)

JCJC 18-05-2007 11:44 AM

PTRU 18-05-2007 07:22 PM

It is at the silverstone sports and social club if that helps
Thank you for the information on the astro

JCJC 18-05-2007 07:43 PM

Try NN12 8XA this puts you in Church Street, track entrance is between the village and West End (road name) on the north side of Church Street, on the right driving out of the village (west).

Maps on club site here:

http://www.srcmcc.com/where.html

"SRCMCC are based in the sports hall which is part of Silverstone Recreational Association Sports and Social club. The Pavilion and Sports club are situated off the main A43 on the other side of the village to Silverstone racing circuit. Follow the Whittlebury Road into Church Street. Take the road that goes round the Shop. The hall is near some swings, Football pitches, Tennis courts and the village Cricket ground."

So head into the village from A43 and look for the rec. parking on the grass near track (at least was last year) drive around the edge of the cricket pitch. Toilets in pavilion/sports club, walk back across the pitch.

KevLee 18-05-2007 08:33 PM

Thanks! See you sunday

Nick Goodall 21-05-2007 08:35 AM

Well done to all for yesterday, meeting went really well and it was good to be home at a sensible time!!

Well done to Kev and Tony too, great days racing
