Must be a great achievement being involved in something what was fake.

IceMike 04-12-2009 09:08 AM

The 'crash' landing was staged (read it somewhere)

The crash was staged as was the flying into the airport, they even hired the police chopper and James may wasnt even the pilot only for the camera shots. And the airship was taken to each destination cos it couldnt fly very well. Not something i would of been proud being associated with:thumbdown:

Lee 04-12-2009 12:16 PM

Same with the Stratos Replica, the stig wrecked it, blew an engine, window, Clarkson scratched the screen etc

Plus they dont do one flying lap, he did 30+ laps and they take a few shots at each corner so they can show a lap, the spins were also induced and it didnt do the manufacture any favours. Top gear went down in my estimation considerably last week when i found this out.

There is more info here if those care to read about it http://www.stratossupersite.com/foru...ead.php?t=7683

The guys a bit upset but what does he expect, if the top gear lads find something to take the piss out of they will do. it what you call entertainment, i had to cringe tho when Clarkson continued using the wiper when it flipped over.

Im sorry this is top gear are talking about here. Can you really imagine that with all the other challenges they do jezzer may and hamster go and do alot off camera. When they do cheap car challenges like when they have the old volvo rover and audi. for under 100 pound can you imagine them going out on there day off and buying those cars. When they made geoff do you really think that they made it!!! No it was made by someone else.

As far as im consirened the airship was brilliant. If it didnt fly aswell as hoped who cares. It was a mamoth project and defently one of the toughest project top gear have done. Ive seen the caravan in person from a distance and it did look good. As for the airport im sure they would of HAD to stage that for safety perposes because LOTS OF PEOPLE COULD OF DIED if they just flew a air ship into the air space of an airport without teling anyone.

Dont come here and knock people about soemthing they have put blood sweet and tears into when all you know is romours on the internet.

Thought the guys on here were more intelligent than to think that everything on TopGear was actually real?? The focus of the show is changing, to being about three middle aged men and cars, not cars driven by three middle aged men. Anyhows, it is still funny.

That Lancia Replica was a bit junk to be honest.

And that airship was technically a fan assisted hot air baloon, not an airship.

Ash it was a fake and NOT a rumour.

Yoldume 04-12-2009 07:45 PM

what has gone wrong with topgear IMHO is they are trying to be funny, before hand with items such as the trip across africa the american adventure and the vietnam episodes were pure class

but now its same old same old and they miss aot out they seem to try and fit so much in they are missing areas and things that previously made the show funny

and back at the track:

A. i want a new reasonable priced car
B. all the studio stuff is so blatantly scripted (it was before but its more noticeable)
C. the crowd ALWAYS has the fit birds at the front (not that i mind) but it just seems a bit sad

D. they never do a hot lap they just do laps and cut them together
E. alot of the stuff that happens now is staged such as the camping trip and the fire and also this weeks hot airballoon scene
F.its just getting a bit old and theyve run out of things to try

Not so, old chap.

Well, love the show or hate it, the flying caravan was no fake baby! Take 1 caravan (a real one, mind), fit 1 Rotax 2 stroke engine, 1 Honda Pressurisation engine, 1 6MW Propane Burner, full aviation electronics, controls, hydraulics, harnesses, replace the orginal chassis with an uber lightweight aluminium alloy one, use honeycombe composite panels for weight saving, ensure all these features are hidden away whilst in caravan mode, get the design approved by the CAA (including 6g crash survival), fill the propane cylinders with 60kg propane, fill the petrol tank with 20 litres unleaded, make an official test flight yourself, then hand it over to the BBC. Easy really.

The 'crash' was not staged nor planned. The rest of the story was staged to a certain extent (of course!), although the Top Gear guys were insistent that we turned a real caravan into a caravan airship with no fakery. And that's exactly what we did.

Al

From all the guys that know you and what a genuine bloke you are. Top Job for Top Gear fella. I do find it amazing, that for a bloke that's specialised in hot air balloons; that you have that much time for CGI!

Do you believe in santa as well.

Alfonzo 06-12-2009 07:59 PM

He's actually Jeremy Clarkson I believe, but his sleigh is fake and staged.
