When too use rear shock mount option?

My rear shock option mod. just arrived, when too use?
I have 2X50 grams in the rear of my Cat too balance it, will the mod. do the same job?

David Church 11-11-2009 05:06 PM

I run the shocks at the rear all the time, I think it makes the car very safe. Which promotes confidence for me!
I also have about 130 grams of lead between the under tray and chassis, in the shape of a cross.

niggs98 11-11-2009 05:17 PM

although i havent run the cat for long, i have recently tried the rear shock conversion...... it wont be coming off the car in a hurry. totally locks the back of the car down and is better across the bumps as well. for me it has ment i can run a lot more front tyre to get the pivot back into the car so the balance feels very simlar but has more stability. definatly an improvement in my eyes

jono83 11-11-2009 05:19 PM

are you drilling the arms or swapping them over?

jim76 11-11-2009 05:20 PM

Niggs, did you swap wishbones and stuff, or simply put the shocks on the back and re-drill the wishbone?
I have a kit but haven't got around to trying it yet.

Edit - Jono you speedy git! :P

Oi!!!!!!!!!! Why didnt you ask me Jim????? Cheeky:p:p:p

Kopite 11-11-2009 05:29 PM

i'd imagine they're drilling the wishbones at the back, cos if you flip them over you'll notice a pretty significant angle on the driveshafts (angling forward)

Sorry DC!!! What have you done to yours?!! lol

jono83 11-11-2009 05:31 PM

does swapping the wisbone over also shorten the wheelbase?

David Church 11-11-2009 05:32 PM

Ok I will tell ya, haha, I have drilled the wishbone, it was easiest and the rear end stays the same.:D

niggs98 11-11-2009 05:32 PM

personally i have left the wishbones in the kit position (same as mcdc) and drilled new holes in the wishbone. if you flip the wishbones round it makes the driveshafts sweep forward to much and cause other issues in the handling. with the extra stability the shock mod offers i have been able to run the car in long wheel base as well. this makes it even better across the bumps so worth trying. will get some pics sorted for where i have drilled the wishbones to help

he aint gonna ask you dc you will only advise to wash it in the river :woot::wtf:

David Church 11-11-2009 05:33 PM

See Nathan copied me :woot::woot::woot: Lol

jim76 11-11-2009 05:34 PM

cool, that was the option that looked preferable! See if i can get them sorted for the next EPR round and give them a quick back to back test

jono83 11-11-2009 05:35 PM

Thanks for the info.

David Church 11-11-2009 05:38 PM

Jono, take care of my old car!!! I know Alan sold it to you!!! hahahaha

jono83 11-11-2009 05:53 PM

lol its fine and it doing me good. i actually jus noticed tha the rear arms are already drilled on mine i jus need to re mount the shocks and tower

David Church 11-11-2009 05:54 PM

We gave Alan the right setup!!!!

jono83 11-11-2009 06:13 PM

lol the shocks are the front of the tower at the moment. i will try them on the back of the tower this thursday.

mw02veg 11-11-2009 06:21 PM

Don’t forget there is a new alloy rear gear box housing U3555 which has the option to mount the shocks front or rear with out the need for extra spacing.

Never tried the shocks on the rear never felt the need to. But never say never.

Similar story for me, used them once at the rear (if memory serves me right - which probably means I'm wrong) and never really liked it. Could be an option to be tried on a bumpy track such as Coventry if I get there over the winter but other than that I haven't felt the need too

Have people made a template or something to drill the wishbones?

No template, just measured it and drilled, worked a treat.

andy reeves 12-11-2009 08:11 AM

Cheers DC will look at getting some drilled to try

I got the optional shock mount kit today, but didnt order the alloy rear gear box housing U3555.

Only just read on the instructions that i need it. Is there a temp solution using the plastic ones?

Matt

yes, space the shock tower off the back of the mount by aprox 6mm this gives the shock enough spacing to mount to the rear of the wishbone without to much of an angle
