losi xxx4
i just wanted to know if this its a good car as i have just order 1 is there any other parts in need to race it ;)
|
xxx4g+
front diff housings and front hinge pin brace are the only spares you will need, i had two xxx4g+ and all i ever broke was the diff housing and pin brace. if you can get hold of the titanium pin brace it will save you a few bob in the long run
|
if you've just "ordered one" then it's too late to worry wether it's any good or not.
However they are a pretty strong old chariot with sealed belt drive that's fairly indestructable if looked after and reasonable suspension. They were dropped n favour of the older xx4 simply because the suspension is better on the xx4 (for real bumpy stuff) Treat it right and it's a good car that'll last ages. Fookin ugly though... |

?
anybody help me out how long do the belts last and are they easy to mesh the pinion gear up |
Yes it's a good car, the belts will last ages if setup correctly. Front shock towers aren't the strongest though it you drive into things hard.
|
thanks mate are parts cheap or do they cost the earth and are parts easy to get from local modelshops
|
Stampmeister, you are the only one who can check your local modelshops.
|
i know that up too me but i wanted to know how many racing people use them
|
the losi graphite parts are REALLY expensive compared to other stuff. The car is good indoors, put poor outdoors compared to more modern cars. The xxx4 must be around 6 years old now or more.
Front gearbox is weak and shock tower on the front. Belts should last ages on it. Not many people use them at all now. Most people run the older XX4 as it is better, or a more modern chassis What happened to the cyber10? And i thought you didn't want belts? why didn't you ask BEFORE ordering it? you can't keep impulse buying then complaining after if it no good for you. This is why people get upset with you. |
Stampy...
You are so bloody confusing. You were complaining yesterday that you would only go for a shaft-drive! This morning you said you were seriously considering the B44. Now you've 'ordered' a Losi xxx4? Can you see why people lose patience with you? |
you ask me why i did not buy the losi car as it was a good car i took your word on that and i am buying this car as i cannot afford pro gear yet i like this car its the best i have seen yet. i have kids and my racing is not all about money when your on a crap wage and got 3 kids to buy xmas present for so i am buy this car as i like it and it mint condition
|
To be fair, the XXX4 is pretty good on a flat ish track, it's bumpy tracks it's not so good on. I won Yorks NE regional a few years back with a XXX4 though it had a few mods. I used to produce some carbon bits that I used to sell, steering mods and shock towers.
I never used to have any problems with the transmission on my car, those MASSIVE diff gears mean it's all pretty free. You must remember though that it is still technically Losi's most recent top end kit so parts are quite expensive, I do agree though that the front bits of diff housing, pin brace and shock tower are the only things that commonly break. |
thanks mate it sound good too me can you buy plastic parts for them?
|
cant wait to get it :D:thumbsup::)
|
Certain bits are available in plastic because there was the earlier XXX4 and then the later XXX4G+ which was a higher spec car all of which was 'graphite' plastic.
|
Have you bought a new one or used?
|
second hand mate were do you get the plastric bits from thanks mate i need some help were to get parts if i smashed it up cheer mate can you help me out super dan
|
mate mate mate mate mate :p
|
My last xxx4 i had was ace!
I thought that it jumped better over the triple than my X5 at Deerdale 8th scale astro track LOL, It just floated perfectly over all 15ft from peak to peak and hit the down ramp ace! |

|

|
Spares
I use to have a few of these cars shock towers wishbones go for fun models in motion was the shop I used but it's down south and I live Manchester so Internet orders only other than that it's order from America

the original xxx4 was plastic but i think most of the plastic parts were phased when the graphite edition was released. Losi Graphite moulded parts are very expensive, one reason i got rid of my old xxx4.
|
DMS racing is the best place to get Losi (and most other things in the UK), usually get things the next day. I can't help you out with any bits I've long since sold mine. Gary I do agree though, in air handling was really good, probably because the chassis is so large and flat.

Try Pete at sunday best he has all sorts of parts for older cars.

i got told there only good on a indoor tracks and not good at all on a outside track that why people telling me there no good on any track s outside
|
u should of asked b4 u bought the car
|
Saying the car is 'not good' outdoors is relative, how is it set-up, who are you competing against and what is your ability like?
I have won numerous races outdoors at my local club with a XXX-4 and indoors too! :) But give Ellis Stafford a XXX-4 and you race a XX-4 and I wonder who'd win outdoors?? Know what I mean? The XX-4 and XXX-4 are totally different cars it's like wanting to put a Ferrari bumper onto a ford fiesta, can't be done - well I'll rephrase that, there's no point in doing it (incase there's any boy racers on here!;)) Dan |
Stampy...
For starters you said you didn't like belt-drive. Now you want to swap to a XX-4 chassis? You do know you CANNOT run stick-lipos in a Losi XX-4? |

If he wants to get a dremel/hacksaw out and try to fit a XX-4 chassis then I wish him the best of luck but that'll fit better into the 'I made this' section of oOple :) |
Stampy..
Seriously if you have ordered the XXX4 stick with it for a season at least. Learn how to race etc. Beginners regardless what car they are running (b44, XX4, XXX4 etc.) still have to learn the ropes. Download the manual from the Team Losi site and read it. Then read it again. Then when you get the car read it again with the car in front of you. Get the things you need for this car, i.e. ESC, radio gear, batteries and the motor. Build it SLOWLY taking your time. Whatever YOU do STICK with this car. The best way to get the best out of a car is to stick with it and not chop and change! DO NOT customise bits and mix bits from other cars. Whilst you are learning about this car keep it 100% original (obviously geniune hop ups etc..) Then this is the most important step. Take it to a track near you, listen, learn, race and enjoy. Obviously you'll break something so that'll fit somewhere between the race and enjoy bit... |
I was aware Stampy was purchasing a Losi xxx-4; and I believe that it will be more than enough to keep Stampy occupied.
I just can't understand why Stampy has a need to purchase car after car, and part after part... Rather than just settling down with one car and learning it. (Set-up, gearing, etc.) I just become baffled by him. Julius. |
Just get it and run it standard for goodness sake
