Slipper Pads

How often should slipper pads be replaced, is it after so many meetings or do they last a season etc?

Col 23-04-2007 11:01 PM

depends how much they slip;) I've run mine for nearly 2 years without changing them...

ashleyb4 24-04-2007 05:46 PM

Just look at them what are they like if there back and look work replace them they only cost a few quid and if you get new ones get the white ones there better more consistant at slipping.

??????;) Sorry Ash, don't mean to take the piss, but I am finding it increasingly difficult to read certain peoples posts. Can I get grammerator status, Jimmy?

super__dan 24-04-2007 08:27 PM

I always found the AE slipper to be crap, start a run with any kind of slip on (like at tivvy) and it would have backed off by the end of the run.

Losi clutch miles better!

ashleyb4 24-04-2007 08:45 PM

jimmy 24-04-2007 09:19 PM

lol

I am now using Tamiya 501X slipper pads in the B4 - they are similar or better than the white AE pads and cheaper too. They have a nicer slip with less 'stickyness' to the action.

As for replacing them, when they get a glaze on the surface they tend to become a little less fluid in their motion. I've never had a B4 slipper back off personally

tc2k 24-04-2007 09:31 PM

Hmmmm. 501 pads, they work well then Jimmy?

jimmy 24-04-2007 09:40 PM

I think so, they are grey, not the same as the new AE pads but similar characteristics (more slippy)

Actually this was another thing that annoyed me, they are £6.99 from DMS and I paid £8 before when I wanted them on the day at Tivvy (part# AE-9603).

What are slipper pads made out of, could you get a sheet and cut them out, it's a simple shape!

BenG 30-04-2007 10:46 AM

Where can i get the new white AE pads? I have the nasty yellow ones at the minute

Kopite 30-04-2007 12:24 PM

Ben, I think it's the same part number as the white ones have superceeded the old yellow ones. Dom may just not have updated the yellow ones picture as you're going to get white ones whichever you might have preferred

bigred5765 30-04-2007 02:35 PM

we had the same problem when we ran the b4 ,the slipper kept backing it's self of, it turned out to be the slipper nut,the plastic had lost its bite, we just replaced the nut and shazam it was good again

millzy 30-04-2007 02:46 PM

Slipper nuts are really cheap, and come in a set of 8, also make much better front wheel nuts for you guys who are runnig none FT axels

Fair do's, that wasn't my case last year as I tried new nuts and even two nuts tightened against each other.

millzy 30-04-2007 02:49 PM

you did rub the slipper plates so they where not shiny didnt you

Elliott Hopkins 30-04-2007 02:55 PM

Slipper pads are made of PTFE.

Elliott.

Kopite 30-04-2007 03:06 PM

:eh?: rub the slipper pads?

BenG 30-04-2007 03:44 PM

no i said plates get it right stan

Kopite 01-05-2007 11:03 AM

ooo, didn't know that one Millzy, explain to me please...

millzy 01-05-2007 11:09 AM

its an old skool trick that the old b3 need doing now and then

basicly the slipper pads get a soft/smooth shiny finish and the slipper pads dont stick to the plates as well , you basicly lightly rub the plates with a scouring pad to take off the shine.

so its less sticky, and slips better?

Sounds a good plan.

Chequered Flag Racing 02-05-2007 09:54 AM

don't know about the rest but the difference I found was that the new white pads have more bite than the origanals. It maybe ptfe but I don't find it slips any better.

as for the AE slipper (2 pad version) self adjusting, never had an issue with mine

what's the part # for the Tamiya slipper pads?

is this the way to go, like the Kyosho?

Clutch spring is acting/pressing against a washer. So any spring bite/movement should spin the washer against the nut rather the spring biting into the nut and backing it of. Just a thought

are Losi slippers bulit the same?

super__dan 02-05-2007 03:19 PM

They have a plastic washer that is flanged and holds the larger diameter spring central, but may well act so that the nut never backs off. Interesting!

Richard Lowe 02-05-2007 04:58 PM

It's only the spur that spins relative to the shaft, the spring and nut stay static :eh?:

bigred5765 02-05-2007 05:09 PM

you beet me to it rich, its true though the plates don't slip its only the spur gear and pads that move, so nut and spring have no action against each other, other than tension,

Northy 02-05-2007 05:21 PM

The plates are keyed to the layshaft.

that's fcuk'd that idea then :p

Richard Lowe 02-05-2007 09:00 PM

Hehe :)

Does the losi slipper use a bigger diameter or thicker nut with more nylon?

If thats the only difference we could use the Losi nut on the B4 slipper and it shouldnt loosen off, I've had it happen to me a couple of times too.

Doomanic 03-05-2007 05:44 AM

That won't work.
The AE slipper nut is 5-40, the Losi slipper nut is 4-40.
