Tyres for Kidderminster

I'm hopefully going to be doing my first national at Kidderminster in a few weeks (I'm quite high on the reserve list). Wanting to sort out my tyres.

I'd guess it will be Schumacher Yellows in the dry, but what will be best in damp conditions and fully wet?

Lee Martin 22-04-2007 07:13 PM

bb pinks or greens

ashleyb4 22-04-2007 07:13 PM

Nope Ballistic mini spike green in the dry. And im not sure about the wet.

Greens in the dry..? Greens are used in the wet on most UK multisurface tracks, i can't see them working well in the dry green mini PINS worked well; however.. these are not allowed for this years nat.

I'll personally be using schumy yellows in the dry, and in a good rainfall ballistic green spikes.. i want to stay away from pinks if i can due to the wear rate.. but pink is also an option.

ashleyb4 22-04-2007 07:21 PM

Me and kevin did some testing at the first round of the winter series at kiddy and yellow's where all over the place. It was uncontrolable. So we went to greens and they where alot better. Yellows are bad around kiddy.

PaulRotheram 22-04-2007 07:24 PM

That's in the winter though, the national will be in May, and with this months weather already being pretty hot, in the dry with a nice bit of sun, greens wont be on pace imo, yellows will be the ticket from whats been going around.

Although, it's your own preference.

PaulRotheram 22-04-2007 07:26 PM

to reprove yellows will be the ticket in the dry..

Most, if not all cars have yellow schumys on in the last series.

Ashley,
You and Kev knock yourself out on your BB greens, but if it's dry then the only tyre choice is Yellow mini's. You only use BB green SPIKES if it's raining.

Kopite 22-04-2007 07:42 PM

dry-yellow schumacher mini spikes.
damp-bb green spikes
soaking wet-bb pink spikes.

this seems to be the general view of most people

gonna be an expensive day tyre-wise methinks!!:(

ashleyb4 22-04-2007 07:45 PM

It was a bit greesy so yellows will proberly work if you think about it in a logical way.

PaulRotheram 22-04-2007 07:46 PM

keep faith stan, i'm sure it wont be 'too' bad. It depends on the layout and speed of the track.. same for most places really !

If it's wet, then it could go wrong.. but roll on sun!!!!

emzy 22-04-2007 07:48 PM

*remembers the hail stone of last year*

Kopite 22-04-2007 07:54 PM

can we make it dog slow then, so we can get away with using schumacher blues? mmm, cheapness....

Cheers. Out of interest, whats the difference between green and pink compound, is pink softer?

I'm not going to use new set each run. Am probably going to take 3 sets of yellows use them 2 runs each, then can be used afterwards for club racing.

Kopite 22-04-2007 07:57 PM

yeah, pinks are softer. they won't last long

PaulRotheram 22-04-2007 07:58 PM

Pink is softer yeah

I've set my self a limit this year so money dosnt get out of control. 2 pairs of tyres each day on a national, and an extra 2 for when the weather is bad.

It worked very well at tiverton, of all tracks.. the rest of the year should be ok.

I may splash out abit at southport though......

Rob 22-04-2007 08:02 PM

What about fronts for 2WD, would I need both BB green and pink fronts or could you get away with using bb green fronts for both damp and wet.

Kopite 22-04-2007 08:06 PM

yellow minis are a good all rounder, although people will use the bb spikes on the front too (massive steering from them though!)

I guess a lot of it is down to personal preference

BB have stopped making 2wd fronts now i belive?

Kopite 22-04-2007 08:23 PM

i've seen people use the BB 4wd fronts

Richard Lowe 22-04-2007 08:39 PM

I can't see yellow minispikes not working if it's dry, it's a multisurface track; no different to Batley/Southport....

Through the Tiverton winter series we where running 4wd's on the front of the 2wd. Worked really well but not sure if it will do the same for kiddy:o

matdodd 23-04-2007 12:10 AM

Yellow mini spikes are fine as long as its dry but as soon as the track gets damp the grips very poor:( lets just hope its dry then we can just run loads of yellows :(

_sleigh_ 23-04-2007 07:30 AM

If you use the BB 4wd spike on the front of a 2WD, then cut down the beading and mount them in the same way we did for the Losi Stud at Tiverton.

As for Yellows, they were good at the last Winter Series meeting and you could do 2 runs easy (although it was cooler temp.) Some drivers might even get 3 runs.

Not unless you are going to use BB 4wd fronts on a 2wd, as the 2wd fronts have been discontinued so are no longer comercially avalible and not allowed at nationals.

At the last round of the winter series I ran 1 set of yellow mini's all day. The grip was good until the final, when the temperatue dropped and the damp affected the grip levels, other than that it was good.

Can't use the 2WD fronts? More expense then, already had some green 2WD fronts mounted!

Kopite 23-04-2007 11:14 AM

however much i agree with the expense issue, i think banning tyres that aren't commercially available is the only way to go.

please please let it be sunny!

modelimages 23-04-2007 11:21 AM

i have 1 pair of TO5 bb 2wd greens left in the shop, so technically they are commercially available

jimmy 23-04-2007 11:22 AM

I've got about 3/4 sets of fronts- have to keep them for regionals I guess.
Yellow mini spikes are really good and what I ran last year.. when it rained / hailed though it was useless and I had to take the car off the track as I couldn't even drive it.

I think I am way down the reserve list for Kid so I won't have to worry about tyres too much

Rob 23-04-2007 01:45 PM

So what about 2WD fronts, will Schumacher yellows be ok in both dry and damp conditions, what would be recommend in really wet?

tyreman 23-04-2007 02:07 PM

Schumacher green mini's

wacattack 23-04-2007 02:13 PM

Has there never been a national/regional at Kiddy before? Why is there so much ambiguity around which tyres to use?

jimmy 23-04-2007 02:16 PM

I think they always used ballistic mini pins in recent times ?!? I must have been one of the only ones running mini spikes last year, just because I couldn't be bothered to buy loads of pins.

Kopite 23-04-2007 02:24 PM

cos bb green pins work in all conditions, whereas it's not quite so cut and dry with spikes.

it's a ball ache:(

emzy 23-04-2007 02:30 PM

I liked those PHAT tyres we used to use in 4wd if it was really dry... blockheads or sprints or something?

I always thought my car looked HOT with them on.

Yep, I'm a girl, I like pretty things.

Kopite 23-04-2007 03:10 PM

what the bloody hell are blockheads?:wtf:

emzy 23-04-2007 03:25 PM
